Chapter 2: Modern Small World (3)

==============================

“Ding ding dong ding ding dong…”

Lin Nan was lounging comfortably on her soft sofa, enjoying some relaxing light music.

In front of her, on the desk, sat a steaming cup of rich coffee.

With her hands cradling the back of her head and her chest proudly puffed out, even in her leisurely and relaxed pose, her stunning figure still managed to steal the show.

She would have loved to restore her past identity as a man in the real world, but alas, this was merely a projection.

So, here she was, embodying the OFFICE LADY stereotype, dressed in a professional skirt suit and black stockings, ready for a day at work.

Not long into her coziness, she heard a soft knock at the door.

“Come in,” Lin Nan said.

As the door swung open, a young woman in a black uniform entered, respectful as she saluted before shutting the door behind her.

“Director, here’s your schedule for today.”

Ah, it’s her female secretary.

But ideally, she should have been assigned a male secretary… whatever, as long as she looks good, that’s all that matters.

As the director of the Ocean City Special Operations Bureau, with responsibilities far beyond those of ordinary departments, Lin Nan knew that aside from her team and the top brass of Ocean City, nobody else even knew the name of the Special Operations Bureau.

She quickly skimmed through the documents and tossed the folder back at her secretary.

“Today, all field personnel are to cease all outgoing operations and await further notice. As for my random errands, they can all be postponed.”

“Yes, Director.”

The female secretary promptly left the office, immediately relaying her orders to every department via instant messages.

Setting herself up as a lead of a special unit with the help of some editing was a pretty decent choice.

After all, dealing with the Ji Shen and that demon race crew, relying solely on weapons and firepower would definitely lead to catastrophic damage for Ocean City.

Their first mission looked tough but was actually relatively easy.

It all boiled down to whether they could quickly adapt to this world and find the corresponding loopholes.

Upon seeing a harmonious gathering of people in the center park of Ocean City, Lin Nan took a gentle sip of her coffee.

Interesting, she seemed to have underestimated these folks’ adaptability.

Even though they initially appeared flustered and surprised, this bunch had been through battles, and they quickly regained their composure in the face of the unbelievable.

Especially Fu Yetian and Lady Rong Ji, who had already blended in with the locals like true social butterflies.

So, what else were they supposed to do next?

Lin Nan decided to pull back her godlike view; watching their every move was getting a bit tedious.

Why not play on the computer for a bit?

Since it was a projection of the real world, surely her old gaming accounts would still work, right?

Before long, she found herself playing… Dou Di Zhu on her office computer that must have cost tens of thousands.

“Are you a gg or a mm?”

“It’s a pleasure teaming up with you!”

“Be careful, I have just one card left.”

“Your moves are incredible!”

After losing all 6000 beans, Lin Nan closed the interface with a sigh of disappointment.

Her skills had seriously deteriorated! Back in the day, she was a regular in the higher stakes, and now she was getting wiped out in the beginner’s matches.

Darn it, she wouldn’t take this lying down.

She looked at her phone wallet showing several million beans and, embracing the mentality of “use it before it expires,” immediately recharged with a couple of billion joyous beans.

“Ha! Let’s see me utterly dominate today!”

What Lin Nan didn’t know was that just the day before, she had held a video conference on that very same office computer. At that moment, her computer’s audio seemed to still be connected to everyone’s speakers.

Suddenly, the entire office was filled with the cheerful music of Dou Di Zhu.

“Call the landlord!”

“Steal the landlord!”

“Double!”

“Not doubling!”

The deputy bureau director, responsible for maintaining office order, abruptly stood up, shouting down the corridor,

“Who dares to openly play Dou Di Zhu during work hours? Are you itching for a punishment or what?!”

The staff looked on, stunned.

One pointed toward the director’s office.

“Bingo! If the director finds out, you’ll all be in deep trouble!”

The female secretary coughed, “Cough cough… Deputy Director, it’s possible the director is conducting an in-depth study of Dou Di Zhu.”

“Oh, then it’s fine. What are you all staring at? Hurry up and get back to work!”

The staff exchanged confused glances.

Lin Nan, blissfully unaware of the chaos outside, was certainly not going to get any reminders to turn off the audio output. Who would dare disturb the director? If she lost her joyous beans and ended up in a bad mood, they might be in for a long day.

“Ouch, lost again…”

After an entire afternoon of research and competition, Lin Nan had successfully flushed all her joyous beans down the drain.

“Those rascals must be cheating! How else could I never draw a good hand?!”

Regaining her composure, she glanced at the time. It had already been five hours since that crew had arrived in this city. If they were going to make an all-out conquest effort, she figured her special operations bureau should have received a report by now.

But so far, everything was as calm as a still lake.

It was rather peculiar. Could those who usually shouted about fighting and killing actually hold back and refrain from attacking unarmed pedestrians?

Pulling up her godlike perspective to find their coordinates, Lin Nan was stunned.

After a whole five hours, they were still huddled in the center park without moving an inch!

Not only that, but Fu Yetian and Lady Rong Ji appeared to be mingling with the locals. Tourists were treating this group like large-scale cosplayers, wading through the soldiers to capture photos.

Leading the trio of harpists was Trissa, who had even conjured a large harp, complete with strings!

Their enchanting harp performances quickly became the center of attention for myriad tourists.

Before long, two food delivery trucks arrived at the park entrance, and the demon race soldiers lined up in an orderly fashion to collect their boxed lunches. Then, they all sat down on the ground to feast, resembling nothing more than a large performance troupe in the locals’ imaginations.

Lin Nan didn’t expect these folks from the Asking Dao Continent to integrate into the local culture so quickly without breaking any laws. Truly impressive!

Especially Fu Yetian; his thinking and restraint were beyond what ordinary people could comprehend.

By the way, where were they getting money for takeout from…

Just one glance at Lady Rong Ji, surrounded by a group of otakus posing seductively, and Lin Nan understood instantly.

Even without using a Heart-eating Worm, a simple promise from her would probably have people clamoring to pay her way.

What she thought would quickly draw police attention was ironically making them celebrities on social media.

As the final boss, how could she allow them to blend in so seamlessly and try to fly under the radar?

Lin Nan promptly pulled out her phone and sent out her second directive since becoming director: “Meeting!”
