### Chapter 2: You’ve Just Gotten Used to His Kindness

### Chapter 2: You’ve Just Gotten Used to His Kindness

Mmp!

That old codger Li Ying Tian shows up and ruins three of my character cards right off the bat!

Especially Wei Wenxuan,

being my very first card, it took me a good while to level up, contributing loads to my character’s upgrades, and boom! Just like that, Li Ying Tian slices him in half with one sword.

My heart is just in shambles.

As for the other two bronze cards, they didn’t even get a chance to introduce themselves before they were sent off to the great card afterlife. Talk about a major bummer.

But hey, after the battle in Cold Wind City,

the best cards we brought out were the golden Heavenly Demon Sound Sisters, while the Demon-Slaying Squad mostly had bronze cards, with a smattering of silver cards.

After fully understanding the skills of each card, I strategized a not-so-secure lineup to push back Li Ying Tian,

which really showcases the level of the mastermind pulling the strings.

Isn’t that the fun of a card game?

After our victory in that battle, Lin Nan immediately recalled her cards and switched her consciousness back to her body.

When nested inside a character card, she had to watch her back constantly, afraid of getting one-shot by the enemy and not being able to switch back.

Once she was back in her cozy, fully enclosed underground bedroom, surrounded by soft bed curtains, she lay on her plush bed and felt her tension melt away.

Time to relax for a bit.

Ideally, after this, Thousand Bird City and White Feather City would chew each other up, leaving both reeling and severely weakened.

This way, no one would bat an eye at the isolated Cold Wind City. She could score several months, maybe even a year of development time.

The feeling of not being disturbed is just delightful.

As for my cold value, whether it’s on purpose or not, I can play around with a few character cards in the human realm to show off in front of the players, especially bringing Strong Brother with me. That way, I won’t even have to worry about how to raise my cold value.

Once I’ve accumulated enough to roll dozens of ten draws, I can have that lucky guy Shiyuan pull cards for me. Sooner or later, my collection will sparkle like a jewel with all high-level SSR character cards.

Hee hee,

With that thought, Lin Nan couldn’t help but sit cross-legged on the bed, grinning like a Cheshire cat.

【Cold Value -1】

【Cold Value -1】

……

Shiyuan played a huge role in our victory at Cold Wind City too. I’ll treat him to some pig legs tonight as a reward.

“Shiyuan, Shiyuan?”

Lin Nan called a few times, eager to share her joy that she could now survive for at least a few more months.

But what she never expected was that the usually cheerful young boy, who would instantly call her “sister” at the slightest greeting, was as silent as a tomb right now.

What’s going on?

Lin Nan immediately jumped out of bed and flung open the door,

only to find Shiyuan was nowhere to be seen.

Where on earth did he go? Why did he leave without even a heads-up?

Lin Nan silently returned to her room, settling back down, thinking it wasn’t so bad. Just a while ago, she’d wished he’d take a hike; now he’d vanished without saying goodbye, just as she wanted.

After lounging on the bed for a bit, her arms propped behind her head, her silky black hair spread out beneath her like a blooming black lotus.

Her gaze wandered over the slightly blurry two mounds, rising above them was her fair right leg, lifted gracefully like a lotus root.

It had been ages since she had observed her body so closely.

Yep, once you get used to it, the heart’s ripples settle.

But what if one day she lost this perfect body? Would she still maintain her calm demeanor as she did now?

Nothing lasts forever in this world.

Things you get used to will eventually vanish.

That was how she comforted herself.

But why, every time she closed her eyes, trying to restore her zen from before Shiyuan arrived in Cold Wind City, did she find herself failing after only a few seconds?

Even if Shiyuan was just a dog, after enough time together, feelings develop, and he’s a person on top of that.

If he were to mysteriously disappear, and she acted like it didn’t matter, could she really keep her cool as if nothing happened?

No, that’s definitely not her.

Lin Nan burst out of her room again, shouting, “Where’s Shiyuan?”

The maid waiting outside quickly responded, “Guard Shiyuan went out.”

“Do you know where he went?”

“No idea. We all thought it was the Great King’s orders, so we didn’t dare ask.”

Lin Nan couldn’t really blame them. Ever since Shiyuan took charge of the door, they’d been kept outside and couldn’t approach. It was understandable they kept their distance.

What to do now?

The Chaos Forest is massive; finding one person in there is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Oh wait!

Why not use a handy tracking tool?

“Call in the Wolf Demon, I want to see him.”

“Yes, Great King!”

The Wolf Demon, who was busy helping Cold Moon investigate the battle damage, jumped up excitedly after receiving the summons, turning to the Second Great King and saying, “The Great King is out of seclusion!”

Cold Moon nodded calmly, “Just as I expected, the Great King is systematically assessing us. Now that Cold Wind City is secure, it’s time for us to present a good report card.

The Great King summoned you to gather insights on the battle from another angle. Just be honest.

And about the few traitors who fled mid-battle, I’ll report those.”

“Got it, Second Great King.”

Generally, when summoned by someone higher up without knowing the details, people get nervous, and the Wolf Demon was no exception.

“I heard wolf noses are way more sensitive than dog noses. Come on, take a whiff of this and see if you feel anything.”

“Yes, Great King!”

Though a bit baffled, the Wolf Demon followed the Great King’s order, squatting down to sniff around the place where Shiyuan had been.

“Is the Great King looking for someone?”

“Exactly. My head guard has suddenly gone missing, and I think you might be able to help me track him down.”

The Wolf Demon readily agreed.

He stood up, following the scent out of the cave and onto the surface.

“Well? Which direction did he go?”

The Wolf Demon lifted his head and pointed toward Thousand Bird City.

“Hold on, Great King, let me check with the city guards to confirm my lead.”

Lin Nan tried to stave off her anxiousness, calmly nodding, “Okay, go ahead.”

Dressed in black, she stood tall atop Cold Wind Cave,

a gentle breeze swirled around her, making her dress and hair flutter.

In the night, the little demons scurrying around in the city all glanced toward the direction of the Great King simultaneously.

As survivors of this battle, many little demons had only recently pledged allegiance to Cold Wind City, yet after this skirmish, they felt a strange sense of belonging to it.

The strong Great King felt like the spiritual pillar they held onto during tough times, motivating them not to give up.

Fortunately, they had passed the Great King’s test.

Just as the Second Great King had proclaimed, only by enduring trials of bl**d and fire could they earn the right to serve the Great King.

Now, they had succeeded.

They yearned for praise from the Great King.

At this moment, nearly everyone paused their work, illuminated by flickering torchlight, gazing into the tranquil night, catching a glimpse of the Great King’s silhouette.

……

P.S. That’s all for today, see you tomorrow!
