At this very moment, the class group of Ma Yongxin was as silent as a grave.
Those watching Classmate B’s live stream clearly heard the young major enunciate the words “Bureau Director Lin.”
“Lin… Bureau Director? He can’t be talking about Lin Nan, can he?”
“How is that even possible? Lin Nan is around our age. Even if she’s a director at the county level, she at least has to be a department head… Besides, this is Ocean City we’re talking about.”
“Wait, is today April Fool’s Day or something?”

Meanwhile, a bizarre exchange between Li Cheng and Nie Zhengchu left the three policemen dumbfounded.
Holy cow, they can’t possibly have caught a bureau director!
But… looking at that girl, she looked like she’d just graduated from college. By the country’s standards, anyone aiming to be the head of a department would have to be in their thirties or forties at least to be considered a promising young official.
Typically, most are around fifty years old.
So even faced with armed soldiers, the three policemen still held onto their doubts.

“Um, Major comrade, we did overlook something earlier. Could you please let us check their identities?” The police team leader asked politely, looking toward Li Cheng.
Li Cheng shook his head. “They’re from a classified unit. How are you going to check? You won’t find anything.”
The police leader threw up his hands. “This really puts us in a tough spot.
How about this: you have your soldiers put down their guns. If it gets out that we have some sort of conflict here, it could create quite the misunderstanding.”
Lin Nan sat calmly with her arms crossed, showing no signs of budging.
“Li Cheng, just let them take me away. What’s the big deal?”
Li Cheng was at a loss for words. “Bureau Director, you’re an important figure in Ocean City. Getting taken to the station like this is just too…”
“I did hit a security guard, so they’re not wrong for taking me,” Lin Nan said indifferently, seemingly disregarding Li Cheng’s feelings.
But to be fair, even though Li Cheng was about five or six years older than her, in terms of power, Lin Nan ranked as number one nationwide, while Li Cheng was stuck at number five.
Following the age-old tradition, the number one is the boss of the organization,
and everyone else has to fall in line.
However, in modern times, organizations got subsumed by the state, and that contract was long gone.
But people still held onto the respect-for-the-strong habit, where younger members respected their elders. Those who didn’t follow this unspoken rule faced scorn from their peers.

Early that morning, a special forces team stationed in the outskirts of Ocean City received a call from the Special Operations Bureau needing their assistance.
Due to military regulations, the special forces generally didn’t enter the main urban area. So, as soon as Li Cheng got the call, he brought three helicopters, hoping to surprise Lin Nan, as they used to enjoy this kind of surprise when training together.
But when they tracked Lin Nan’s phone signal, they found her at the city hospital.
Without a second thought, Li Cheng rushed straight to the hospital.
He didn’t expect to witness Lin Nan being led away by the police right at that moment. If he hadn’t intervened, his usually aloof and proud Lin Nan would have actually been taken away by a couple of regular cops.
She clearly didn’t need to go through all this hassle; a simple phone call could’ve sorted it out. Why did she have to make it so complicated?
Even if the Special Operations Bureau was a classified unit not meant to be seen by the public, she didn’t need to play it so low-key.
Unless… the current NO.1 had other plans.
No, no, no! Li Cheng shook his head. No matter what the No. 1 thinks, if word got out that they were subject to regular police without any resistance, it’d be the biggest joke ever!
Originally, if Lin Nan cooperated, they would have left the hospital ages ago, but Lin Nan was dead set on getting into the police car.

No matter what, he had to get the No. 1 out, even if she was unwilling.

Noticing the multitude of phones around him, Li Cheng raised his hand, and the soldiers lowered their weapons but still blocked the van from leaving.
Ma Yongxin smugly messaged the group chat,
“I told you, Lin Nan is just a jobless drifter pretending to be a director. It’s hilarious! I can’t wait to see how this soap opera wraps up. Haha, that pompous major is probably about to meet his doom.”
