Chapter 7: Chaos (8) (Five Changes)
==============================
The basement was packed tighter than a can of sardines, and the fresh scent of humans was practically a siren call for tentacles everywhere.
By the orders of their master, all members of the Extermination of Immortals were tasked with one top priority: keep the survivors safe, especially the high-ranking folks who lingered within the castle.
So there they were, not just the bl**d Moon Team but also the remaining five or six high-tier characters, gathered at the basement entrance, hacking away at the endlessly appearing tentacles.
However, these tentacles weren’t your usual squishy kind. Sure, you could chop them into pieces—like a lizard tail, they’d flop around on the ground in a fit of fury—but before you could say “squishy sushi,” they’d disappear as if they had never existed in the first place.
This was a little perk granted to Li Hanbo by the castle: his tentacles suffered no real damage. Even if you sliced them up, fresh tentacles would sprout up faster than you can say “squid party,” all eager to swarm toward their next target.
The folks in Extermination of Immortals were no pushovers; they could keep up with Li Hanbo even in a full-on war of attrition.
But let’s be real—it wouldn’t be a long-term solution.
Floating in the air, Li Hanbo had an epiphany. He began to unleash even more tentacles into the castle, craving total absorption of everything as his nourishment!
Meanwhile, Lin Nan sat comfortably at her fishing spot, not rushing into action.
The freshly summoned Little Musashi and Jing Feng stood at the restaurant door, smashing any tentacles that dared to barge in.
As the chaos of the guild raid began to settle, it was about time for the Man in Black Robe, who’d been lurking behind Sky Sword City, to make an appearance, right?
She had bided her time for this moment.
If the Man in Black thought waiting until only one Fallen Species remained in Sky Sword City constituted success, she wouldn’t mind taking a pre-emptive strike on Li Hanbo, wiping out his prized creation and turning all his observations into mere vapor.
But who could’ve guessed that these tentacles would start acting more outrageous, suddenly sporting a glimmer of red light?
It was like they had hit the tentacle jackpot! They seemed to swell up, growing tougher with every slam.
The battle in front of the basement showcased this perfectly; the Extermination crew was sweating bullets just trying to hold their ground against this never-ending entity of annoyance.
No matter how many tentacles were severed, their numbers didn’t dwindle one bit!
But human endurance has its limits, and even a few platinum-level powerhouses were now slick with cold sweat.
Lin Nan, who had been in her Zen mode, finally opened her eyes. The next moment, she was soaring in the snow-filled air, her White Shadow Sword arching gracefully toward Li Hanbo’s head.
No time to wait any longer!
She couldn’t afford the loss of so many cards from Extermination of Immortals, nor could she bear to watch the scant remaining humans suffer before her eyes.
First, take out Li Hanbo, then she could figure out the Man in Black later.
Just as her sword was about to make the chop from behind, a tentacle shot out from behind Li Hanbo, slamming into her sword with a loud clang—the impact pushing Lin Nan back a few meters like a jazz dance gone wrong.
“I was prepared for you.” Li Hanbo smirked, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Cold Moon Witch, right?”
Lin Nan’s expression remained as blank as a piece of tofu.
“I wondered why my instincts went haywire the moment I saw you, like my brain was screaming—do not mess with this one!
My bad; an average guy like me, just switching up the outfit, took a while to realize you were actually the witch.
Then, the castle suddenly filled with so many powerful faces, many of which I recognized…
That’s when I truly locked down on your real identity.”
Li Hanbo shrugged, continuing, “Though I have no clue what your purpose in Sky Sword City is, it’s clear you aren’t on good terms with the Fallen Species.”
Lin Nan coldly interrupted, “Villains d*e from too much chatter; are you sure you want to keep talking?”
“A villain? You think I’m the villain? Hahaha!”
As he clutched his belly with laughter, even the tentacles seemed to jiggle along with him.
“Who do you think you are? What gives you the right to judge our side as righteous or wicked?
I finally figured something out: no matter the world, don’t throw around any lectures on fairness! Whoever has the bigger fist calls the shots. Just look at this cursed Sky Sword City; that Man in Black has us trapped like rats—who do we complain to?
We become Fallen Species, and who do we talk to about that?
You think eating human flesh is a walk in the park? I’m practically crying while shoving it down my throat. If I don’t eat, someone else will, and in the end, they’d have no qualms about killing me! This damned world—we’re the victims here!
Don’t assume that just because you’ve got the face of a world-wrecking beauty, you can play the hero.
In Sky Sword City, that nonsense doesn’t fly.”
The nearby Giant could no longer contain himself, roaring, “Master, let me take her out for you!”
Li Hanbo raised a hand, “Hold it. I’m curious to see how I compare to the dreamboat of countless players—the Cold Moon Witch.”
“Well, wish granted.”
Lin Nan positioned her White Shadow Sword defensively, her voice growing ice-cold.
“No matter how put-upon you feel, as if the whole world is forcing you into a corner—if life’s on the line, you’ve forgotten there are things more important than life itself.
If we only live by self-preservation, what separates us from mindless animals?
What’s the point of even being called humans?
If the kn*fe’s at your throat, does that give you the excuse to act against your conscience? Then, fundamentally, you’re nothing more than a beast.
What gives you the right to play the victim here?”
Hearing this, Li Hanbo quivered with rage.
“Cold Moon, don’t you start acting all tough; can you really speak for humanity and pass judgement on me?
Get lost!
If you became a Fallen Species, then maybe you’d understand my feelings! Trapped between life and d*ath!”
At that moment, a flurry of thick tentacles erupted not just from his body but also from the floor beneath him, spraying outward.
Lin Nan steeled herself; she felt a surge of overwhelming power radiating from Li Hanbo, distinct from any she’d faced before.
If the system were still active, it would be bombarding alerts, such as “Elite Boss” and “Epic Fallen Species Boss” warnings.
But without system interference, it was oddly peaceful; she just had to focus on facing this formidable foe.
If she could take him out, maybe things in Sky Sword City would return to normal.
And that d*mn Man in Black would finally have his true face revealed.
As for the few remaining Fallen Species in the city, she wouldn’t allow them an escape route.
