Chapter 8: I Am the Boss (1)

Chapter 8: I Am the Boss (1)

==============================

【Your imitation degree is 45%.】

……

【Your imitation degree is 50%.】

……

Well, this d*ath Knight down there on that Soul Horse isn’t going anywhere, but seriously, a 50% imitation degree? That’s pretty bad!

No matter how hard Lin Nan tried to imitate, the numbers just wouldn’t budge.

I mean, she’d seen plenty of similar d*ath Knight designs in games before, especially in the Heroes of Might and Magic series, where they were the absolute stars adored by legions of players.

And as for Bone Dragons and Ghost Dragons? They were cute and all, but they definitely played second fiddle to the d*ath Knight.

Now, as the boss of level 60, the d*ath Knight had a fearsome look and a commanding presence that made ordinary undead minions look like clueless idiots.

Lin Nan thought she had nailed the imitation, but the system just wouldn’t give her the thumbs up.

What was going wrong?

Seeing Tom and Jerry leading the skeleton army falter under the enemy’s onslaught, she immediately ordered them to retreat, then used a snazzy maze to temporarily delay and split the enemy forces, buying herself some precious time.

If she didn’t act fast, those skeletons and zombie cannon fodder would be toast!

Lin Nan took a deep breath; time was running out.

If she went in with just a 50% imitation degree, and met her demise, her main body would be reduced to ashes.

That was a scenario she absolutely refused to allow!

So, what was her next move?

It was one of those moments where she couldn’t let panic take over; if her mind got scrambled, everything could go belly-up.

To maintain her cool appearance and inner calm, Lin Nan’s fingers flicked lightly, letting a gentle snow start to fall in her little space.

Soon enough, the seated d*ath Knight was dusted with a delicate layer of snowflakes.

The biting cold enveloped her completely, but at that moment, her thoughts became crystal clear.

Maybe! This is the way to go!

No wonder when she previously asked the system for information on the d*ath Knight, it didn’t deliver…

Was the system actually nudging her to create her own character?

Regardless of being right or wrong, she thought, “Let’s give it a whirl,” since she had no other tricks up her sleeve.

……

d*ath Knight: Kael’thas

Age: 33 years

Height: 1.85 meters

Race: Undead

Mount: Soul Horse

Weapon: Ice Curse

Lin Nan peeked at the system,

【Your imitation degree is 51%.】

Bingo! After all that mucking about, the numbers budged simply after she set a few basic names! This little glimmer of hope made Lin Nan feel just a tad bit happier.

Time to flesh out his backstory.

To give the d*ath Knight more oomph, she had to whip up a dramatically tragic backstory—yes, that’s the ticket!

……

A thousand years ago.

On the continent, the Three Races hadn’t yet emerged; all that existed were humans struggling to survive in a harsh environment.

They formed a kingdom and banded together to fight against any external threats.

After all, aside from humans, there were loads of ferocious beasts roaming around, and fierce conflicts existed between the kingdoms.

Kael’thas, as the prince of the Halen Kingdom, was shouldering an enormous burden.

One year, the old king fell gravely ill, and the entire kingdom was in distress.

At this critical juncture, a plague broke out in the eastern region, spreading rapidly across the nation.

Survivors reported seeing individuals in black robes wandering through the deserted villages, seemingly unfazed by the disease.

So, Prince Kael’thas immediately gathered a team to investigate, suspecting these robed figures were the source of the plague.

When they arrived at the village, horror struck.

Every corpse had vanished without a trace!

To uncover the truth, Kael’thas led his men across the eastern border, aiming to confront the culprits behind the calamity.

Soon, they encountered an astonishing spectacle.

The dead had risen.

Those who had perished from the plague ambushed the army on their route, attacking Kael’thas with a sudden ferocity.

His troops suffered devastating losses.

Even the soldiers who were bitten quickly fell ill and died, only to rise again as new foes.

Kael’thas was forced to retreat with the remnants of his army.

But just then, the city gates slammed shut, sealed tight.

The general defending the city declared Kael’thas had conspired with outsiders to assassinate the king, leading to the nationwide plague, and thus had been expelled from the kingdom. The second prince had seen through his brother’s dastardly plan and had taken over as the new ruler.

Left with no option, Kael’thas had to turn away in defeat.

He had thought of seeking support from the neighboring country, but after just two days of travel, betrayal struck again.

Two of Kael’thas’ most trusted aides attempted to behead him in the dead of night to curry favor with the new king. Luckily, he caught them red-handed and retaliated.

However, he sustained heavy injuries and barely managed to escape, leaving the treacherous forces behind.

In the misty forest, he trudged along, one foot in front of the other.

Despair filled every cell in his body, yet the burning desire for revenge kept him going, refusing to fall.

Those two conflicting feelings kept battling it out,

Eventually, Kael’thas resembled a wounded wolf, howling weakly in the woods, nursing his wounds.

At last, exhausted and drained, he collapsed.

Before passing out, he spotted several black-robed figures standing before him.

One leaned down and whispered, “Want revenge?”

“Yes…”

“Then join us.”

“Okay…”

And with that, Kael’thas was completely out cold.

When he finally regained consciousness, a year had slipped away.

His body felt like an old machine long overdue for maintenance, dry and stiff.

It took him a long while to realize he was dead; his soul had merely returned to his lifeless body.

He obtained the power he had desperately longed for but could never go back to the past.

The God of the Undead granted him a sword named “Ice Curse,” commanding him to conquer the Halen Kingdom and turn everyone into the undead.

Fueled by hatred for his homeland, Kael’thas embarked on a quest to annihilate the kingdom.

As he forged ahead, he cut through enemies left and right, turning countless foes into new undead minions.

When he finally reached the capital, his undead army was vast, stretching as far as the eye could see.

Victory was all but assured.

The Ice Curse pierced the new king’s chest, who let out a gasp and spat a fountain of bl**d, perishing instantly.

Yet, his blue eyes remained calm as they locked onto Kael’thas, as if recalling their once-brotherly bond in that final moment.

Kael’thas sneered.

As he gazed at his younger brother, the one who used to follow him around calling “Brother, Brother” incessantly, his heart felt naught but indifference.

But just ten minutes later, everything changed.
