Chapter 8: King vs. King (2)
“Stop fighting! Can you please just stop?!”
At this moment, Ru Yu in her flowing white dress was on the verge of a breakdown.
You see, ever since two identical-looking young boys bumped into each other, they hadn’t stopped wrestling like they were stars in an action flick.
The explosions, the raging flames, and the crumbling buildings in Floating City? Yep, they were all courtesy of these two rascals.
And what about her obedient little “brother”? Ever since the brawl broke out, he had completely ignored her.
It was as if he only had eyes for the other boy, ready to pummel him into oblivion if it meant winning.
In no time, the two were rolling around the Floating City, taking out who knows how many disciples from Thousand Bird City who had tried to intervene.
Ultimately, Fu Yetian just threw up his hands. “Whatever, let them have their fun. The boy’s mission is more than half done anyway, so who cares if I’m here or not.”
“Ru Yu, just make sure they don’t bring the Floating City crashing down,” he had told her before they split.
But Ru Yu had serious doubts about her ability to handle that task.
“Boom!”
Another earth-shattering crash echoed through the air. Who knew what they smashed into this time? It was nothing short of an epic showdown.
In a panic, Ru Yu rushed up, yelling, “You guys! Can’t we talk it out instead of throwing punches? Must you fight?!”
Though she had no idea if it would help, she was surprised that this time the two actually paused in their brawling.
Torches flickered chaotically, casting light on their gasping faces, drenched in sweat.
Turns out, they were both too exhausted to keep going—sympathy fatigue kicked in, and they decided to take a breather.
Even though they were cut from the same cloth, Ru Yu could still sense the subtle differences between them.
The one on the left had his eyebrows raised, a fierce look on his face, his arrogance sending shivers down her spine.
On the right, however, was the epitome of a lovable oaf, looking like you could trust him with your life.
She knew about the “Evil Incarnation” of the Monster King.
Last time, she had gone through a lot of trouble bringing it back from the Heavenly Sword Sect’s Small Thousand World.
And yet, some other Thousand Bird City crew had totally flopped in their attempt.
But for the Ji Shen, just one Evil Incarnation was already more than enough.
Their mission? To capture the Nightmare Beast hidden deep in the East Sea.
Previously, the Ji Shen had poured tons of energy into this endeavor, even sneaking into the Flowerless Palace to set up a temporary base in the East Sea Islands, but success had eluded them.
Then one day, Ji Shen figured out that they absolutely needed the help of the Monster King to catch the Nightmare Beast.
Even a mere splinter of the Monster King would be enough to make the Nightmare Beast tremble in submission.
Not only because the Evil Incarnation was powerful, but as a monster beast, it inherently bowed to strong monster races.
Since the fall of the Monster King, no one among the monster race had emerged strong enough to unify them.
So good luck trying to tame the Nightmare Beast without someone on the level of the Monster King.
The thing was, the Nightmare Beast was crucial to their plan.
With it, even the top-tier Heavenly Sword Sect wouldn’t stand a chance.
Hence, they launched simultaneous attacks on Black Stone City, Heavenly Sword Sect, and Thousand Bird City, using Black Stone City as bait to draw away the higher-ups from the Seven Great Sects.
And lucky them, it worked!
They snatched back the Evil Incarnation of the Monster King.
But alas, this was where Ru Yu’s nightmare began.
In a bid to tame him, she constantly impersonated the Monster King’s beloved, trying to control his half-mad mind.
After losing about a dozen stand-in volunteers, Ru Yu finally figured out the Evil Incarnation’s soft spots and managed to reign him in under Ji Shen’s banner.
This meant they could immediately get back to capturing the Nightmare Beast.
In reality, things were going smoothly until the last phase hit a snag. Fu Yetian had to handle it personally and locked the intruders up on Nightmare Island.
If she had to guess, those captives probably hadn’t escaped the island yet.
Now, with the mist finally cleared, the Nightmare Beast had thrown itself into a deep slumber. Waking it up would take at least six months, maybe up to a year.
Staring at the spiky furball shrank to the size of a hedgehog next to her, Ru Yu couldn’t believe this puffy guy was once a towering 50-meter tall “Godzilla.”
Despite having a dozen Ji Shen experts around her for protection, she believed they wouldn’t be able to withstand a hit from the Evil Incarnation.
So, here’s the million-dollar question.
That boy who looked just like her “brother,” he must be another splinter of the Monster King. But where did he pop up from?
After all, Ji Shen’s previous skirmishes against Thousand Bird City and Black Stone City hadn’t yielded any success.
As she cautiously inched closer, worried he might turn out to be another “brother” incident, she reminded herself she had to maintain her “sister” image or she’d be toast.
That’s right. She was out of stand-ins. The clock was ticking—it was her real self on the line, and once she was gone, there was no second chance.
Clearing her throat softly, she asked, “Hey bro, who’s this kid you’re grappling with?”
Evil Shiyuan giggled, “I don’t know who he is, but the moment I saw him, I just wanted to knock him out!”
Shiyuan scratched his head, looking just as puzzled, “I felt you coming from afar yesterday and wanted to meet you. But why do you want to k*ll me the second you see me?!”
At that moment, Shiyuan suddenly exclaimed, “Oh no! I forgot to tell my sister when I left yesterday!”
Ru Yu’s ears perked up at the mention of “sister.”
Could it be this guy was under someone else’s control too?
Did they find a way to control the Evil Incarnation, much like how she did, by pretending to be the Monster King’s sister or something?
The Great King of the Split Land had mentioned a group called Extermination of Immortals who wanted to recruit him, and they were pretty darn strong.
Cold Wind City had held out against Li Ying Tian only with Extermination of Immortals’ assistance.
So it seemed this new Evil Incarnation could well be an Extermination of Immortals puppet.
But now that he was here, there was no way he could leave.
Although he wasn’t a match for her “brother,” after that long brawl, he was little worse for wear—just some surface scrapes.
If he could be turned to Ji Shen’s side… wouldn’t that sh**t her status through the roof?
Maybe even surpass Fu Yetian?!
Ru Yu felt the fire of ambition burning within her while maintaining her cold exterior.
“Since you’re here, you might as well stay.
By the way, I assure you, as your sister, I can give you everything you desire!”
Evil Shiyuan jumped up, brandishing a pipe at Ru Yu. “What are you on about, you stinky woman? How dare you betray me?!”
Ru Yu was taken aback but managed to keep her cool.
She had figured out his temperament.
“Hey! Don’t shout! Can’t you see I’m in the middle of a conversation with someone? Sit down already!”
Evil Shiyuan wilted like a deflated balloon.
…
