Chapter 0: New Era (21)
==============================
The prideful and ruthless black figure of Fu Yetian didn’t blend into the night; instead, under the moonlight and starlit backdrop, his outlines looked sharp enough to carve pumpkins—or maybe just scare your grandma to d*ath.
Especially that over-the-top move where he seemed to wipe out dozens of helicopters like they were pesky flies, leaving countless spectators gaping with their jaws on the floor and their eyes as wide as saucers in sheer terror.
This had to be way beyond the concept of “superhuman abilities,” right? Wasn’t he just a hair away from being one of those legend-level celestial beings who can destroy the world on a whim?
Unlike the distant audience peering from their cozy screens, the survivors on Sky Island were shooting hopeless glances at Fu Yetian that screamed, “Please, save us!” It was like watching ants stare at an elephant. The disparity was just too much.
Especially the operatives from various city action bureaus. They had thought that gaining an otherworldly ability would catapult them to the top of the food chain. Instead, they found themselves on the receiving end of a demon onslaught, suffering catastrophic losses.
After barely catching their breath with the help of Bureau Director Lin, they were dealt a devastating psychological blow when the final boss appeared, completely cutting off their escape route from Sky Island.
Was this really the ultimate evolution of humanity? The gap between them and that boss was like comparing a fly to a fighter jet.
It was a complete domination—not just physically, but mentally. They were paralyzed at the sight of that hovering final boss, as if their feet were glued to the ground, leaving them utterly frozen in dread.
Meanwhile, there were demon warriors who were cleverly backing away, attempting to escape Fu Yetian’s line of sight.
Morris, nephew of Prince Eric and the head honcho of the Black Stone City embassy, held the highest rank among the remaining demons. Freeman, the commander of the army, wasn’t a noble, so in the grand tradition of the Empire, he was ranked below. While he could command the troops in battle, the major decisions were still left to the nobles.
Thus, after Eric’s untimely demise, Morris, now a count, took over the army with the strong backing of the harpist prodigy Trissa. He quickly became the faithful commander of the prince’s personal guard.
And guess what? Morris’ previous limitations of being deaf and mute had miraculously vanished—he could chat without restrictions now!
Freeman was relieved he didn’t have to make the tough calls anymore. Let’s be honest, facing an enemy like Fu Yetian, any decision he made would likely end up with a one-way ticket to disaster.
But then Morris dropped the bomb with his very first command: “All units, switch to support formation, and try to get close to that Black-Clothed Woman.”
Freeman nearly choked. “Uh, Count, shouldn’t we focus on escaping instead?” The humiliation that woman had inflicted on him was etched into his memory forever. How could Morris even consider aiding her?
“Escape? Do you honestly think we stand a chance? If even she can’t handle Fu Yetian, we’re toast,” Morris declared firmly.
Freeman knew he couldn’t argue with that logic. After a moment of internal debate, he begrudgingly obeyed Morris’ orders.
At the same moment, Lin Nan stood on the ground, dressed in a black uniform, casting a cold stare at Fu Yetian. His strength was definitely more than she had anticipated.
Once upon a time, Li Ying Tian, the sect leader of Thousand Bird City, was a master of flying swords, but compared to Fu Yetian’s imposing presence, Li was nothing short of a little brother; they were worlds apart.
Even Lin Nan herself felt a flicker of nervous energy.
It was evident that the only way to claim victory in this high-stakes gambling match was to take down Fu Yetian. However, thanks to her current body’s limitations, she couldn’t use her signature spell, Black Snow. Instead, she could only muster up a few measly flakes.
After all, she was a local native, and the system didn’t want her to lean on abilities that weren’t hers to begin with. But just a moment ago, while jawing with Ouyang Le, inspiration struck, and she managed to combine ice and fire, producing the purest form of fire—White Flame!
Now armed with her new fiery ally, she felt a spark of confidence (pun intended) to take on Fu Yetian. After all, it’s not over until the fat lady sings, or in this case, until someone’s left face-down in the dirt.
Before Lin Nan could ponder any further, those blindingly fast light swords that had just demolished helicopters re-formed into a group above her head, all pointing down like they were about to roast a marshmallow.
Far above in the sky, Fu Yetian merely flicked a finger, and those swords sprang into action, charging towards Lin Nan like a swarm of angry hornets.
In a split second, they surrounded her, attacking from every angle. Lin Nan had anticipated the onslaught of flying swords, and when the first signs of gathering commenced, she was ready.
With flames firing on all cylinders, her flame kn*fe erupted, creating a wall of fire that stood as a barrier in their path.
A glint of surprise flashed in Fu Yetian’s eyes. Just as the flying swords neared the fire wall, they diverted their trajectory in a maneuver that would make a stunt double proud.
The audience collectively gasped, jaws dropping as they witnessed those swords evade the fire wall with the grace of serpents, their sharpened edges ready to strike Lin Nan with an intensity reserved for a creature with a serious case of the munchies.
Lin Nan, however, was not about to sit and take it easy.
Just as the swarm of flying swords was about to make contact, she spun like a tornado, her fiery kn*fe whirling about her in a protective dance.
As the fiery blade connected with the swords, the flames changed hues to a pale white.
“Whoosh…”
Every sword that even grazed the white flames instantly turned to ashes. No exceptions.
A few swords that had darted under her feet missed the complete obliteration; they simply planted themselves in the ground, leaving noticeable scars behind.
Fu Yetian was slightly taken aback but quickly accepted the outcome of the flying swords’ demise. If this was all it took to take down the Cold Moon Witch, then he figured she was more of an illusion than the real deal.
The battle at Thousand Bird City and the ensuing events across the Asking Dao Continent had given him a sobering assessment of the Cold Moon Witch’s true prowess.
He wasn’t foolish enough to believe he could defeat her in one fell swoop.
So, when all the flying swords were destroyed, Fu Yetian actually grinned a bit. He extended his right hand downward, as if clutching a nearly two-meter-long light sword, and in a flash, he appeared above Lin Nan, ready to slice her down!
