### Chapter 6: Southern Line (9)
==============================
“Lady Rong Ji, don’t be in such a rush to report back. Come take a look with me; let’s see if my adorable little beasts can storm the Imperial Capital in one go.
If the Emperor is dead, what’s the point of you returning?”
Lilith grinned and stopped Lady Rong Ji in her tracks. Rong Ji couldn’t help but feel the massive gap between her and Lilith, so she obediently halted.
As she said, now that the Beast Legion had reached the Imperial Capital, they certainly wouldn’t just pack up and go home.
Let’s see just how strong the defenses of the Imperial Capital are and whether they can withstand the tsunami-like attacks of the Beast Legion before making a decision.
Having just had a hearty meal, the beasts were feeling feisty. Before Lilith could even give the order, they were already howling at the sky, seemingly needing to let out their pent-up energy.
“Let’s move out!”
At Lilith’s command, the Beast Legion surged forward like a flood breaking through a dam, crashing towards the stone wall that dared to resist them, determined to bring it down completely.
Thousands of pterodactyls acted as the vanguard, arriving at the skies above the Imperial Capital first, only to collide head-on with the Griffin Legion that had been waiting.
For the people in the Imperial Capital, all they had to do was look up to see the bloody spectacle of chaos in the sky, with the occasional fallen Imperial soldier hitting the ground with a thud, having lost their lives.
The sheer number of pterodactyls was overwhelming; even the Griffin Legion could only manage to entangle a fraction of them, while the rest wreaked havoc throughout the city, occasionally snatching up a civilian and then dropping them from a height, the screams echoing everywhere.
And the pterodactyls just loved it.
In no time, the once-curious civilians scrambled into their homes, locking doors and windows, terrified of becoming the next unfortunate victim of a pterodactyl.
Meanwhile, as the pterodactyls launched their harassment tactics, the main force of the Beast Legion began their full charge on the city walls.
They didn’t need ladders or siege towers; they relied solely on their powerful bodies and limbs.
Facing a rain of arrows, the thick-skinned, tough beasts didn’t fear such trivial injuries. With all their might, they quickly reached the base of the walls.
“ROAR!”
With earth-shattering roars, the beasts clambered up the walls, trying to use their hard claws to scale upward.
However, the city’s defenders seemed well-prepared, pouring down boiling oil that made the daring beasts screech in pain as they fell heavily to the ground. They wouldn’t d*e immediately, but their agonized cries only added to the already grim atmosphere of the battlefield.
The Beast Legion’s greatest trait was their fearless nature.
No matter how many comrades fell before them, as long as their commander didn’t order a retreat, the beasts had no thought of backing down.
Finally, during the relentless climbing, one beast leaped gracefully from just five or six meters from the wall and landed squarely on the heavily guarded battlements.
Anyone who could join the Imperial Legion was at least a C-rank warrior; even civilians could reach that level with constant training and experience.
They had no fear of the beasts’ claws, raising their long swords and rushing forward in droves.
At that moment, the Harpists, led by Dean Janet, had long arrived at the scene and began their collective performance.
If one Harpist could give a warrior a limited buff, then with fifty Harpists playing together, the soldiers on the walls suddenly found themselves wearing what could only be described as the ultimate buff.
Iron walls, sturdy resilience, increased attack speed…
And so on—these buffs stacked the soldiers’ attributes to their limits.
Due to the limitations of warrior levels, not every buff had a full effect, but higher-level warriors could undoubtedly take on more buffs.
So, the few A-rank warriors on the wall instantly attained the power of S-rank warriors.
Facing the climbing beasts, they were as unstoppable as if they were in a no-man’s land. There were hardly any enemies that could hold their ground on the wall for over five seconds; if there were, they were already split into pieces.
Just as both sides were pouring in troops and engaged in fierce combat, a massive beast made its appearance.
It was shaped like a small mountain, with its back almost parallel to the wall.
Riding on its back were nearly a hundred small beasts the size of tigers.
But compared to tigers, they had even greater strength, easily capable of turning an ordinary person into minced meat.
Even an S-rank warrior would probably struggle to survive such a swarm of attacks.
Lilith watched from afar as the battle raged on the walls, “Rong Ji, do you think this wave of assault will work?”
Rong Ji shook her head, “I doubt it. As long as there are Harpists around, unless they can take down those warriors in one hit, the Harpists will find a way to save them.”
No sooner had they spoken than the massive beast, nearly the height of the wall, crashed into the parapet.
“BOOM!”
A corner of the wall shattered instantly, and the tiger-sized beasts jumped onto the wall, dodging the city guards and charging straight into the city.
Their target? The city gate.
d*mn!
The brief one or two minutes of opportunity caused by the destruction of the wall was deadly for the city’s defenders.
This undoubtedly gave the agile beasts a perfect chance to launch a surprise attack.
As the soldiers defending the city gate were about to be wiped out, and once the city gate opened, the consequences would be dire. Janet immediately sprang into action with a dozen A-rank Harpists, jumping down from their music platform to stop the beasts.
But just then, a few Harpists lost their nerve.
They could hide behind and boost the warriors, but confronting the vicious beasts directly? They just couldn’t muster that kind of courage.
Janet didn’t press them, taking only those Harpists who were willing to follow her and rushed towards the battlefield.
During this process, they summoned their four-stringed harps.
As the strings were plucked rapidly, dozens of sharp sound waves sliced through the air like knives aimed at the beasts.
In an instant, the front-line beasts were sliced into a dozen pieces, losing consciousness before they even knew what hit them.
The remaining beasts roared and charged towards Janet and the others.
Recalling the Lord Messenger’s dissatisfaction with the Harpists’ current state, Janet felt a surge of determination to prove herself, as if suddenly transported back to her youthful days, focusing solely on the battle while completely casting aside other thoughts.
And just as the city’s defenses were locked in fierce combat, the Messenger of the God of Light, Morris, dressed in a cloak that could cover half of his face, quietly appeared in the almost empty Harpist Academy.
And Lin Nan had been there waiting for him.
