Chapter 0: Uniting the Three Races (7)
==============================
A few figures suddenly appeared against the backdrop of the blue sky, leaving Lin Nan squinting from the unexpected brightness.
Their presence was undeniably powerful; each one possessed a strength that made her a bit uneasy. Before this, Lin Nan had never had the chance to face the Divine Clan, the only interaction being when they temporarily controlled a male character’s body to chat in the East Sea Underground Palace.
But now, seeing these winged beings appear out of nowhere filled Lin Nan with a massive sense of danger.
“Who are you?” she blurted out.
Although it was highly probable they were the not-so-friendly Divine Clan, she still needed to confirm their identities.
However, her question fell on deaf ears.
In lieu of an answer, dazzling weapons suddenly materialized in the hands of the newcomers, shining brilliantly under the sunlight.
The three members of the bl**d Moon Team, excluding Xi, immediately screamed in agony.
Their eyes felt like they’d been doused in sulfuric acid, causing them to shut tight in unbearable pain.
Before the mysterious figures even made a move, Lin Nan had already lost three key members of her team.
She was becoming increasingly cautious.
Dark snowclouds began to gather overhead, blocking out the blinding sunlight.
Just as Lin Nan had expected, the brilliant shine of the mysterious weapons diminished, and their intimidation factor seemed to weaken as well.
In that very moment, the mysterious beings swung their gleaming swords and swooped down from the sky, charging towards Lin Nan.
Without hesitation, she executed a teleportation, zipping behind one of the bird-like figures.
To her astonishment, this individual seemed to know her every move.
As she arrived behind him, he abruptly spun around, his sword sweeping towards Lin Nan like a whirlwind.
“Clang!”
The clash of weapons erupted with a deafening boom.
A powerful shockwave rippled outward, sending the air into a frenzy.
The other mysterious figures, suspected to be from the Divine Clan, immediately joined the fray, wielding their shining swords as if they were completely unfazed by the sharpness of the Black Wind Sword.
And that was exactly how it played out.
Even with the buff from Black Snow, that formidable power which could slice giants into pieces proved utterly useless against these mysterious adversaries.
It was as if they were well-acquainted with Lin Nan’s every combat move.
With every attack, Lin Nan felt trapped in a tightening fishing net; every attempt to break free only brought more enemies into her path.
The more she struggled, the fiercer they attacked.
Since arriving in the Asking Dao Continent and inheriting Frost North Snow’s legacy, this was the first time Lin Nan faced such an embarrassing predicament.
Was she simply too weak, or were these mysterious figures just too strong?
If every Divine Clan member possessed such terrifying strength, there would be no glimmer of hope for survival in the face of Divine Punishment.
As the thought crossed Lin Nan’s mind, the assault from the white-winged beings intensified, as if to affirm her theory.
In no time, the world above them was shaken, twisted by their clashes, with the very fabric of reality seeming to teeter on the brink of collapse.
Xi, witnessing this chaotic scene, felt his eyes nearly blaze with fire.
However, with his current abilities, he found himself utterly unable to join such a fierce battle. Moreover, with three of his companions gravely injured, if they didn’t receive care, they might well perish again and lose their right to exist as living beings.
“Master…”
In mere minutes, Lin Nan had pulled out all the stops, yet the multitude of skills she took pride in appeared childishly inadequate in the eyes of the mysterious figures.
More often than not, Lin Nan relied on instinct alone to hold her ground.
Her lithe movements and agile swordsmanship advanced significantly in this desperate combat against the mysterious beings.
For the first time, she abandoned all skills, relying solely on her primal survival instincts to fight tooth and nail against her foes.
“Clang clang clang…”
“Whoosh…”
Lin Nan’s right arm was slashed by a sword, bl**d gushing forth, a sharp pain piercing her brain.
Her swordplay and agility left gaps.
The enemy immediately took advantage.
Despite her desperate attempts to dodge, a long gash was still carved into her back.
Lin Nan plummeted from the sky like a bird with clipped wings.
But the mysterious beings clearly had other plans, closing in from all sides to finish her off before she could even hit the ground.
Xi rushed forward to protect his master, but lost his entire right arm to a single sword swing, followed by a brutal kick that sent him crashing to the ground.
He struggled to lift his head, bl**d drenching his eyes.
In that crimson haze, he could only watch as the enemies’ weapons loomed closer to tear his master apart.
What a crushing sense of despair.
“No! No!”
Xi let out what might have been the final cry of his life.
But at that very instant, whether by miracle or perhaps his pre-d*ath hallucination, the five swords that were a mere millimeter away from Lin Nan’s vital points froze in place.
Then, the winged beings, suspected to be from the Divine Clan, suddenly vanished into thin air.
Yet Lin Nan still fell to the ground with a heavy “thud,” her head tilted as though she had truly lost consciousness.
Caught between shock and joy, Xi quickly dashed to Lin Nan’s side, ignoring the pain coursing through him.
“Master! Master!”
As long as the bl**d Moon Team remained intact, it meant Lin Nan was temporarily out of danger.
But just as Xi rushed over, ready to support Lin Nan with one hand, two deep voices suddenly boomed from the horizon.
“How is she? Is she alright?”
“Good thing we arrived just in time; it would’ve been too late otherwise…”
Xi blinked in astonishment at the source of the voices.
He spotted gigantic faces appearing on the horizon, dominating the view of the sky, their size simply astonishing.
It was like ants gazing up at humans—utter shock and disbelief.
Xi stood frozen in place, his mind struggling to comprehend the bizarre situation unfolding before him.
“CRACK!”
Suddenly, an earth-shattering noise erupted from beneath him, and the entire platform shook violently.
He quickly realized that the supporting roots of the platform had been snapped by a giant that could rival the heavens.
Holy moly!
He bolted towards his still-unconscious master, determined to protect her with his life before the platform toppled completely.
Just as he anticipated, the platform began to tilt sharply downward, the world around them turning upside down.
The waters of the lake surged towards him like a monstrous wave.
And just before Lin Nan’s body plummeted into the abyss below, Xi managed to wrap his left arm around her waist, holding her tightly in a desperate attempt to cushion her fall.
He closed his eyes, awaiting the embrace of d*ath once more.
