I Come From the Abyss to Save Humanity Today – Chapter 105

**Chapter Seventy-Nine: The Pitch-Black Scythe**

Pasifal seems to have become even more terrified of Pagos than before, looking like a mouse caught in the gaze of a cat.

I can just imagine what he’s been through lately… Pagos is the top craftsman around here, and the Duke probably had Pasifal tagging along learning the ropes, which surely meant plenty of “training.”

Now that I’ve figured that out, my gaze towards Pasifal is full of sympathy, and I sincerely hope his days ahead will be a bit more comfortable.

“Pepé! It’s been two months since you last came here! Come on! Let Uncle see if you’ve missed me!”

A massive shadow completely envelops my tiny body, and my eyes go wide in terror.

No… don’t come any closer!

I hurriedly back away two steps but then “thud” — I bump into the wall. I see Pagos take two strides to close the gap and then extend his rough, gigantic hand to grab my little face.

Rubbing… squeezing…

That dry, coarse touch is coming from both sides of my cheeks, and all I can hear is Pagos laughing loudly.

“Ha ha ha! Your little face is still so soft, ha ha—uh…”

I’ll give you… ha! ha! ha!

I hammer three fists into his stomach.

I initially wanted to thump him on the chest, but he’s too tall for that. I could jump, but that would be… rather rude.

However, this time I put a bit more strength into it, and Pagos, unable to handle it, stumbles back two steps, rubbing his belly.

“Ha ha! Not bad! Pepé, we gotta have a spar sometime!”

“No time.”

Who wants to spar with you!

Ugh, I really don’t like this guy.

“Pagos, stop bullying her.” Seeing Pagos advance, the Duke quickly blocks his path. “You’ll really get her mad, and then I might just toss you into the furnace.”

But Pagos seems utterly unconcerned. “Skarlij, I’m just joking around with Pepé!”

Then, as if he’s just had a thought, he furrows his brow and changes the subject.

“Hey, why isn’t Lafael here? Didn’t he come back?”

“Lafael is still at Shanter Castle. He has a lot on his plate today.”

“Oh.” Pagos rubs his bald head. “I heard that guy took care of Edward, huh?”

“Yeah, that was last night.”

Pagos nods, then casually glances at me.

When he turns back to the Duke, there’s no more joking in his eyes.

“Skarlij, are we going to war?”

“Maybe. Who can say for sure right now?”

“You’ve thought it through?”

“Thought it through? There’s no time for thinking, Pagos.” The Duke’s smile fades. “Nobody likes war; I don’t like it, and neither does Pepé. But it’s come to this, and I won’t hide. Do you understand? I can’t wait until the mountain is upon us before making plans — you have to act before it’s too late.”

Pagos ponders for a moment before letting out a sigh.

“I understand; I’ve heard Pasifal’s version of things. What Edward did… Pepé used to listen to him, so how could he…? If it were me, I’d have squashed him.” He pulls out a chair from the workbench and sits down. “Alright, Skarlij, there’s not much more to say. You know me; if it comes to that, I’ll do whatever you say.”

“Mm.”

Pagos chuckles again.

“Looks like my big iron hammer is going to come in handy again.”

“I hope we won’t need it… the battlefield meat grinder…”

The name sounds terrifying as it is.

Before long, Pasifal returns.

Along with him are two beefy craftsmen, struggling and sweating profusely as they carry a pitch-black rectangular leather case between them, their teeth gritted and expressions strained.

“Pepé, your big scythe has arrived! …Be careful… just put it here.”

Pasifal directs the two to place the case on the workbench.

The case is crafted from exceptionally fine material, with a clear leather texture that feels top-notch — I can’t guess what kind of beast skin it’s made of. It’s around 1.2 meters long and surprisingly heavy, as evidenced by the expressions of the two craftsmen. Despite their best efforts to ease the landing, it still makes a dull thud as it hits the tabletop.

Dust rises into the air.

“Great, thanks for your hard work!”

“No problem, no problem.”

“This thing is way too heavy… what’s inside?” one craftsman asks curiously.

“It’s a magical weapon!”

“What kind of weapon is so heavy… is it new tech from the workshop…?”

“Um… kind of, I guess…”

“So mysterious…”

Once the two craftsmen leave, Pagos rushes up and gives Pasifal’s still-smiling head a slap.

“I asked you to go get the case! Instead, you had others carry it in!”

“Ow!” Pasifal yelps, immediately looking wronged and rubbing his head. “I couldn’t lift it; it was way too heavy…”

“It’s only about two hundred pounds! Have you been wasting those muscles?”

“Two hundred pounds? No human can lift that… uh.”

As he’s halfway through speaking, Pasifal suddenly clamps his mouth shut and sneakily glances at me.

What? You think I’d be mad? Please, childish.

“Uncle Pagos.”

I extend two fingers and tug at Pagos’s sleeve, who’s about to open the leather case.

“Uh, what?”

“Can you lift this scythe?”

Pagos bursts into laughter.

“Ha! Pepé, asking that means you’re underestimating me. Who do you think made this? My steel hammer is even heavier! Ha ha—!”

I nod.

“Oh.”

Then I take two steps back and stop talking, grinning at him.

Pagos looks a bit confused.

“Pepé, calling me over just to say this…” He stares blankly for a few seconds before slapping his forehead as realization hits. “Wait! Pasifal! You brat, you dare say I’m not human!”

He grabs Pasifal, who clearly senses the trouble and is trying to escape, and starts whacking him on the forehead with his massive fist, causing Pasifal to cry out in pain.

“It hurts! Uncle Pagos, I wasn’t talking about you!”

“Then who were you talking about?!”

“I meant… uh, not that! I wasn’t saying anything about anyone!”

“Ha ha ha, alright, alright.” The Duke pulls Pasifal away from Pagos’s clutches. “Pagos, I’m just saying, at your age, why are you acting like a child?”

“What’s wrong with that? This little brat dared to insult me!” Pagos kicks Pasifal’s backside. “Go open the case!”

Despite the grievance written all over his face, Pasifal knows he can’t defy Pagos and reluctantly moves to the workbench, stretching his hand toward the case, “click” — he unfastens the metal clasps on the right side and flips open the lid.

Inside the case is filled with a pure white, foam-like soft material, within which is embedded a pitch-black giant scythe, folded into three segments at both the handle and the blade.

Pagos waves his hand.

“Take it out.”
