Chapter 118: Just a Trifle
“Mm mm Yikes—”
Ah. I can’t speak… let me just swallow this bite… oh no, here comes Sarah!!
“Quick, let me slice a piece~”
Hearing her voice whispering in my ear, I instantly turned, cradling the leg of lamb in my arms, shaking my head like a bobblehead.
“Mm~~ (a second sound turns into a whisper)!!”
It’s the first day of school after all, and I can’t go hungry; that’s just bad luck! Seriously, Sarah, with all that roasted meat in the cafeteria, why didn’t you eat some then? You have to come back and steal mine? I’m getting mad!
“I’ll just take a little piece… you can’t finish it all anyway.”
Munching in a panic… gulp.
“I can! I can finish it!”
I stared at her with a serious face and lifted my palm—thinking if she reaches for it, I’ll smack her!
After a moment of eye contact, Sarah suddenly burst into laughter and, “whoosh,” shot her hand into my armpit.
“Tickle tickle!”
“Pfft—! Oh no, my lamb!”
She was quick and nimble; as I laughed and dodged her tickling attack, her distraction gave her the chance to snatch the leg of lamb right out of my hands and step back out of my reach.
“Mine now~”
She flashed a mischievous smile, brandishing the leg of lamb as she showed off, making me grit my teeth in frustration, panting like a bull.
“You’re despicable!”
How could she find my weak point? How infuriating!
Sarah! Don’t you know if you were Pasifal or Carlos, you’d be toast by now!?
Clap clap!
“Ah.”
Feeling two hard slaps on my back, I winced and quickly turned my head to see Sophia glaring furiously at me.
“I’m trying to have a serious conversation here, and you two little dogs are just performing a food heist? Aren’t you the least bit worried? Do you even know who Alex is?!”
I shrugged, “Yeah… you just said he’s a menace from the Royal City.”
Just then, I heard Sarah behind me laugh so hard she hiccupped: “Hahaha… I think that menace… well, it’s not such a big deal, today you’ve both been made fools of, right? Thinking about it… pfft, just makes me want to laugh… especially Peilo, she’s just epic… um, this is tasty.”
“Right! We’ve tricked him today, but what will we do next? Peilo, he’s got his eyes on you!” Sophia’s beautiful phoenix eyes opened wide, full of concern, “Honestly, I’m just worried—what am I even fretting over…”
Seeing she seemed genuinely angry, I quickly put on a friendly smile.
“From now on, I’ll just avoid him~”
But deep down, I was thinking, why hasn’t Sarah given me that leg of lamb yet…
I slyly turned my head and caught her stuffing a huge bite of lamb into her mouth, chewing while sawing off another piece… Why does she get to eat another one!?
I panicked immediately: “Sarah, you said only a small piece! Give it back to me!”
Sarah looked at me warily, mumbling with her mouth full, “No way!”
“No way!”
With that, I leaped toward her.
“Heehee…”
Daisy over there was already chuckling.
“Forget it, I’m not dealing with this.” Sophia huffed, waving her hand as she stood and walked toward the bed, talking as she went, “Hey Peilo, just a reminder, Alex’s family power is huge. His father is the finance minister of the Royal City, his uncle is the commander of the Iron Guard, and his grandpa is Duke Lex. So it’s no surprise what he can pull off in the Royal City; he can probably just pay off with some coins if need be. You need to be careful… don’t go out alone lately, remember to call us wherever you go, okay?”
“Sure, sure~”
Having snatched the leg of lamb back from Sarah, I happily agreed, taking a bite before looking back at Sophia’s retreating figure.
She’s a bit slim but has curves that are just right. About 1.7 meters tall, her beautiful blonde hair is pinned back with a crystal-embellished hairpiece, and her long legs are as straight as a model’s. Beautiful enough to be drawn in a painting.
Suddenly, I felt a little happy.
Thinking back from last night till now, since coming to the Royal Academy, not much good stuff has happened. Getting harassed, tripped, almost being late, and Daisy even got hurt… nothing to make anyone feel happy about.
But then again, it’s precisely because of these little mishaps that it’s drawing our dorm quartet closer at an exciting speed.
They aren’t bad people, which is actually quite rare, especially in a place like the Royal City. Think about it—someone as straightforward as Sarah and a noble like Sophia who actually considers others are hard to come by.
And then there’s our quiet rabbit who doesn’t say much, completely harmless but a bit timid.
Plus yours truly… cough, the fierce dude.
Not too shabby.
Life in the academy won’t be boring, right?
Compared to that, Alex’s antics are nothing but trifles.
I won’t go out of my way to provoke him; they’re just immature little boys who love to cause trouble for pretty girls, trying to get something started. That’s understandable; as someone who’s been a man for twenty-six years, I totally get where they’re coming from.
Though their methods are a bit clumsy… or maybe not; they’re just reckless, unwilling to invest any thought into “chasing girls,” which has everything to do with their identities.
For example, a prince wouldn’t seriously go out of his way for a woman; that kind of plot belongs in stories. In their level of society, most women are within reach, not worth the trouble. Sometimes if they get bored, even if they forcibly ‘have their way’ with someone, those women usually just end up crying; even if they think about ending it all, what’s that gonna solve?
No real choice in the matter.
You either get forced into that relationship or—if all else fails—just pay some coins to make it go away. You don’t argue about this; if you dare cause a scene, your whole family might just get wiped out.
Especially in a society with glaring class divisions like the one between nobility and commoners, such things happen regularly. Just look at Edward’s attitude toward me when I was in Winter City; he already treated me as his preordained queen without considering my wishes—even if my father is Skarlij—his own uncle, that thought wouldn’t change in the slightest.
Thinking about it still makes me feel a bit nauseous.
Alex and his buddies probably share a similar mindset to Edward’s. I believe those guys have more or less committed some terrible acts against girls, and Sophia’s worries are just about those kinds of events happening to me.
But that’s not gonna happen…
Even if I said it out loud, no one would believe me, so I’ll just agree with whatever Sophia says.
But if they keep bothering me or do something bad that I witness, then we’ll see.
Munching on the lamb leg, I pondered all these boring thoughts until I soon heard three girls gasp in surprise.
“Hey hey, look! Oh my gosh…”
“Peilo, you actually finished the lamb leg…”
“Ah, I didn’t even notice! She was just sitting there quietly… is she okay? Eating that much, she’s gonna d*e… silly girl, just spit it out!”
“Hey… hey hey, do you still want more pie?!”
“What the heck is your stomach made of? It hasn’t even gotten bigger… where’s all that food going…”
“Bottomless pit… it’s terrifying.”
And with that, the truth was out.
