### Chapter 147: Devour
Looking at the twitching corpse before me, which had no chance to ignite the Sin Fire again, I nodded in satisfaction.
“Now it’s much quieter.”
It really was significantly quieter.
There were still three living Heretics remaining. Although they had surrounded me, they were utterly silent, faces filled with disbelief, and they started backing away, quickly creating a decent distance between us… as if that would give them a sliver of safety?
From their trembling eyes, I caught a glimpse of that lovely little emotion called Fear, and I couldn’t help but smile.
These crazies who didn’t care about their lives and wanted to take me down with them were scared now… what are you afraid of?
A sticky liquid slid down my cheek, tickling a bit. I reached up to scratch it, and noticed that the more I scratched, the oilier it felt. Raising my hand to my eyes… ah, it was all bl**d.
I had just smashed someone’s head in… whoops, forgot that. Heh.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a wisp of white smoke twisting past me, like a firefly in the dark.
It seemed to drift out from the corpse beneath my feet… wait, the corpse had turned to ashes sometime, leaving only this wisp of smoke, quietly reminding everyone it once existed in this world.
Even that reminder quickly faded. The smoke emitted a soft, gentle glow, circling around me twice before, with a ‘whoosh’, diving into my chest.
“Hmm…”
I closed my eyes, my body shivering as I savored the ultimate delight. Moments later, I opened my eyes again, my dark pupils hazy, seeming to ooze charm like drops of water.
…Time to change my hygiene products.
Snapping back to reality, I noticed the three Heretics’ faces had turned pale with terror… ah, so they were afraid of this!
Could it be that The Gate of Truth knows what this smoke means?
Interesting…
I focused my attention on one of the bearded Uncles among them.
He looked to be not even forty yet. I didn’t know if he had family, but I definitely hadn’t seen him before… yet here he was, trying to k*ll me… how curious!
“What do you know?” I tilted my head and asked.
“Who are you…” the bearded Uncle said, his words laced with a complex emotion that felt like anger.
“Pfft—”
Please forgive me; I couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“Come on, you guys came to k*ll me! You’re not even caring about your lives, and now you’re asking me this question? Isn’t that hilarious?”
And with that, I just kept laughing uncontrollably.
“Hee hee, hee hee…”
In the empty street, apart from the crackling flames, only the Young Woman’s delightful laughter rang like silver bells.
So funny… how is it this funny… but he still hasn’t answered my question… how dare he.
Realizing this made me suddenly unhappy. The laughter in my heart ebbed like a tide, and my little face immediately soured.
“I’m going to teach you… something.”
Whoosh—
With a gust of wind, my petite figure was suddenly right in front of the bearded Uncle. The wind, carrying dust, whipped his hair up, and even then, he didn’t react, his gaze still fixed on the spot I had just occupied.
In the next moment, my hand firmly grasped his left wrist.
“Doris!”
“Watch out—!”
“Ugh!”
The bearded Uncle jumped in fright, his face changing drastically, and he suddenly went fierce, raising a short dagger high in his right hand, intent on stabbing it into his own chest.
Boom.
In the crimson darkness, a pale light suddenly flickered.
Right after, a howl emerged that didn’t sound human.
“Ah, ah—! Aaaaah!!!”
The pitch-black, alluring flames climbed from the bearded Uncle’s ignited left hand, rapidly spreading up his arm, swallowing it whole in an instant.
He looked like he was in immense pain, his face twisting into a horrific grimace. The dagger he couldn’t hold onto slipped from his fingers, and I snatched it up, swinging it straight towards his left shoulder with a slice.
The bearded Uncle’s left arm came off with a clean cut, a gush of bl**d spraying forth.
I stepped back and quietly admired the look of his suffering, listening to his miserable wails.
This was making me feel so thrilled and happy, happy enough that I just burst into laughter again.
“Hee hee… You see, if someone asks a question, you have to answer within three seconds, or else there’s a punishment! It’s common sense… got it? Uncle.”
The bearded Uncle’s body was trembling.
Because I had cut off his arm in time, the dark flames hadn’t spread to his body. But this was still a deadly wound; he was just not dead yet. He could barely stand, kneeling before me, bl**d gushing from the wound like a fountain, spraying almost a meter away. In mere moments, the ground beneath his feet was drenched in bright red, the shocking pattern formed by the bl**d appearing to me like a precious piece of art.
Suddenly feeling my right hand lighten, I looked down to find the severed arm I had been holding had completely turned to ash… no smoke, it seemed the opponent had to be dead for that to happen.
I smiled lightly, my gaze shifting to that pale face.
“Hey, where’s your Sin Fire? Why isn’t it igniting? Show me—”
The bearded Uncle suddenly lifted his head. He looked like a starving lone wolf, glaring at me with bloodshot eyes.
“Monster.”
Then, his entire body erupted with bizarre, unsettling sounds.
Ploof… Ploof… crackle…
“Ah—!”
He shot up suddenly, clutching me tightly with his only remaining arm, shouting, “Aiden! This thing is not human! You all run! Spread the word—!”
“Nobody’s getting away, you know.”
As I spoke, countless tiny smoke snakes began to rise from beneath my feet.
The bearded Uncle’s expression suddenly turned to sheer terror.
“What is this…”
But those were the only two words he could manage to get out.
At the moment he came into contact with Dead Smoke, his body erupted in white mist, emitting a sickening ‘squeak’ sound, and then along with the bl**d on the ground, he was completely eaten away into powder.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—
A rush of wind suddenly blared past my ears. Turning around, another Heretic was charging at me with flames blazing.
These folks… in such a hurry to get themselves killed, not fun at all.
Shaking my head gently, I saw that the man’s figure was swelling in the Infernal Fire, so I casually waved my small arm, and black smoke snakes surged out, swiftly engulfing him along with the Sin Fire.
Not even a scream was heard.
Moments later, two wisps of smoke merged into my body.
“……Huh~”
Letting out a long sigh, I felt my cheeks warm, and my thighs started rubbing together involuntarily, turning my head towards another figure that was trying to escape.
“One left.”
But it seemed like someone else was coming.
What a hassle… my head is starting to ache again… let’s deal with this quickly.
Boom—!
The flames erupted beneath my feet, and I shot forward like a meteor, trailing a long, black tail, radiating blinding white light. As I neared the fleeing figure, I swiftly angled my body and blocked his path.
“I said, no escaping! Why are you still running? Didn’t I say you’d be punished… where’s Abe?”
