Chapter 120: Like a Deity
Boom… Boom…
Boom—!
On the battered northern city wall, the sounds of battle spread from intense explosions and raging flames, thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The clash of holy light and infernal fire raged on, countless holy lances and fireballs crisscrossing in the air as the night wind howled, carrying the scent of bl**d into the city.
“Judgment! Fist of Judgment—”
In the dim night sky, a fierce-looking knight unleashed a thunderous roar from within a halo, his massive frame crashing down onto the city wall like a meteor, sending heretics attempting to launch fireballs at the elite cavalry flying. bl**d splattered in the air as numerous figures fell from the wall, and a fierce melee erupted. Bald-headed Isaac charged in like a tiger among sheep, slaughtering his way from the west wall to the east wall, mercilessly ripping apart any enemy in his path, leaving nothing but carnage behind.
He yelled in the bl**d: “A bunch of scraps! I’m gonna feast on you—”
On the eastern side of the north wall, I stood atop a tower, blue light radiating around me. A surging ice mist poured out like a tide, swallowing nearby heretics whole and turning them into ice sculptures. Hundreds of ice spikes floated above my head and, with a flourish of my hands, shot out at blinding speed, shattering the ice sculptures and piercing through enemies’ skulls. Their screams echoed under the radiant glow.
“Caw—”
In the sky, a pitch-black raven shrieked loudly, soaring toward the southern city. I glanced up.
That one who can create fog… seems to be hiding?
Is he scared?
Power of Order surged within me, and sharp ice spikes shot out horizontally from various parapets, instantly skewering dozens of heretics in a radius of several meters on the wall, immobilizing them as they quickly succumbed to the frost. Below the western city wall, hundreds of elite cavalry charged in through a massive breach, crushing the desperately resisting enemies underfoot, trampling over bodies and severed limbs, marching through infernal fire, dashing into the northern city.
Amidst the countless heretics, some began to turn and flee—perhaps the enemy was unable to organize an effective defense. The expected fog had yet to appear; breaching the city… seemed even easier than imagined.
The knights positioned in the back lines were ready to charge next, preparing to plunge into Alectine City through the breach and city gates. The heretics’ resistance was beginning to fall into chaos…
Boom—
A pillar of ice shot up from beneath my feet, using its force to leap into the air, dodging the incoming fireballs. I looked in the direction of the flying goat cheese, landed on a rooftop, and then leaped again, soaring over the city, chasing southward.
Whoosh!
Whoosh—
Fireballs kept raining down from the streets and houses below. I skillfully dodged each one without pausing, the strong wind howling past my ears, my bl**d-stained skirt fluttering, with my cloak billowing behind me. The ice mist trailed behind in my wake, leaving a sparkling line across the darkening sky, a glimmering hue against the chaos.
The houses below zipped rapidly past my sight, and in the shadowy crowds of the streets, living peasants were becoming a rare sight; all that remained were tragically sprawled corpses.
The dead lay in the alleys, buried in rubble. Flames burned fiercely on the ground, rooftops, and crumbling debris, mixing with bl**d to seep into the streets. A woman, exposed and ravaged, lay lifeless in that filthy mud.
In the glow of the flames, now and then, a heretic would lift their head and emit a beast-like howl.
A pack of heartless bastards…
Bam bam bam bam—
Fierce ice mist burst from my palms, blasting all visible heretics below, swallowing their arrogant forms and extinguishing the infernal fire; those corpses promptly froze solid. I stood on the rooftop, watching in silence, before following the raven’s trail, leaping away between the burning buildings.
…………
In a dim alley slightly south of the northern city, a young knight named Barry struggled to rise, propping himself against a wall, his bl**d-soaked face slowly lifting in the flickering light of chaos.
“Did you hear…”
From the direction of the concealed northern city wall, the distant shouts of battle and muffled explosions faintly reached him. The sky shone with golden light, pouring down onto the city, glimmering on top of infernal fires and between ruins, revealing miraculous colors.
“Reinforcements are coming…”
Beside him, Lilith stood dumbfounded, gazing at the rising golden radiance in the distance, unable to believe it. She struggled to distinguish whether it was real or merely a figment of her imagination. She simply watched the spectacle, listening to the battlefield’s roar growing closer, tears unwittingly coursing down her cheeks, dripping away.
“They’re coming! The First Knights Order is here! They broke through those beasts’ defenses, they’re in the city! Ahhahaha—”
She heard the young knight burst into ecstatic laughter. This shy boy, nearly three years younger than her, who fumbled his words when talking to her, suddenly had his dull eyes lit up like stars. He seemed to lose his mind for a moment, dancing around, then abruptly turned and hugged her tightly.
“They’ve come, she’s here! Lilith, she’s here—”
Barry’s grip was fierce.
“You don’t have to be afraid anymore, not anymore… Those d*mn beasts are about to d*e here… they’re all gonna d*e…”
Lilith’s breath caught.
She was still immersed in disbelief, her head spinning, her ears buzzing, feeling his tightening arms around her waist, unable to react. Barry’s armor felt cold, the scent of bl**d overpowering; she froze for a long moment before realizing she needed to push him away. But hearing the young knight’s choked words, somehow, her hands that should have pushed forward just hung frozen in the air.
“Barry…”
Whoosh—
Suddenly, in the night sky, blurred by tears, a brilliant blue shooting star streaked by.
That is…
The shooting star flew at incredible speed toward the south of the city, cutting through the air with a deafening roar, audible even from hundreds of meters away. Lilith stared, struggling to wrap her mind around it, wondering if it was some kind of powerful divine miracle. The next moment, she noticed Barry lifting his head, his whole body starting to shake.
“That’s… my sister…”
The young knight’s voice trembled, initially tinged with confusion, then quickly shifting to resolute certainty.
“That’s my sister!”
He released his grip on her, dragging his battered body up onto a crumbling wall. Looking back, he pointed at the shooting star in the distant sky, shouting at her, “She’s coming! Lilith, do you see it!? That’s Pope Knight Silvya! My sister!”
The young knight’s eyes glistened with unshed tears.
“Brother Mor—”
He roared into the night sky.
“My sister’s here, do you see it!”
“She’s here—”
“You…”
“Do you see it…”
In the next moment, the shooting star suddenly veered and accelerated, like a powerful predator on the hunt, descending toward the city below with a series of booming sonic blasts—
And then, it seemed to light up the entire grand city.
Scarlet flames and azure frost intertwined like the collapse of heaven and earth. The sound of their collision hadn’t even reached them before an unparalleled brightness erupted from behind the towering buildings and the shooting star’s landing point. From hundreds of meters away, Lilith felt her eyes sting; she instinctively raised her hand to shield her face, and immediately after, a deafening shockwave hit her ears.
Boom boom boom boom boom—
The ground trembled beneath her feet, fierce winds swept past, making it impossible for her to keep her eyes open. Lilith stumbled back, nearly losing her balance, as the overwhelming shock washed over her like a massive tidal wave. Her scalp tingled; she faintly heard Barry shouting something, but couldn’t discern the words. As the shock gradually faded, a wave of terror and trembling washed over her, and she couldn’t help but clutch her arms tightly.
“Ahhhhh—”
She could barely hear her own screams.
In a daze, the young knight descended from the wall, wrapping his arm around her shoulder, pulling her behind the wall. His mouth moved, as if asking her if she was okay, but Lilith was disoriented and couldn’t respond, her mind replaying Barry’s earlier words.
That was her sister…
That shooting star… was a person.
A girl…
But she was like a deity.
