Chapter 199: Land of Dragons (Part Six)
He’s got his eyes on me…
Dozens of meters away, a man with eyes bulging like a frog was directing all the beast-taming clerics to surround a shadow. A dazzling golden glow erupted, and countless shining golden chains burst forth from the ground, whipping towards the hunched old man.
In the next instant, the old heretic moved. He suddenly twisted his feet, bending and stepping, his figure flickering like a ghost—whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—as he evaded the incoming chains with astonishing speed. Dancing through the gaps in the chains, he swung his dual blades and slashed down. With clangs of sword song, intense sword energy shot out, resembling a startled swan. A few clerics couldn’t dodge in time and were caught along with their warthogs, torn to pieces, bl**d flying everywhere!
Whoosh—
The old heretic didn’t stop, his figure pursuing the wind, the whistling sound piercing through the splattered bl**d. He leaped into the air, doing two flips, his blades darting like venomous snakes, launching two fiery lines that viciously cut into the crowd of beast tamers. Amidst the chaotic screams, severed limbs and bl**d erupted once again.
He landed, ducking just in time to avoid a flying holy lance. Firmly establishing his stance, he drew his short blades to his sides, slashing down with a massive cross-shaped sword energy that flashed forward with a fierce momentum!
“Ring the bell—!!!”
The cleric with a severed arm had bl**d-red eyes. He barely had time to shout backwards before the tips of the cross fire passed him, ripping through the grass beneath him. Then came the clergy members behind him—the cross sword energy from the old heretic pierced through everyone standing in front and sped towards my direction.
Fifty meters.
Only fifty meters separated us from the enemy, from that swirling chaos.
Amidst the spraying bl**d, I could almost see the old heretic’s pale strands of hair and the composed, sinister expression on his face.
Buzz—
The old pope beside me released a fierce light for the third time. With the sword energy approaching, a humming sound erupted. The knights upfront were nearly wiped out, and the remaining clerics huddled together, wrapping themselves in a faint protective shield, using their bodies to form a human wall against the incoming sword energy.
“Great Deity! Be with us!”
“Ahhh—!!!”
They let out desperate howls, bravely facing d*ath in front of the sword energy, trying to block this extraordinary assault with their bodies. The clerics upfront bunched together, while those behind began softly chanting, preparing for a counterattack. The golden light on the old pope surged out just as the cross sword energy was about to chop into the crowd, and many clerics gritted their teeth, closing their eyes at that moment, when a massive ice wall as solid as a mountain suddenly appeared before them.
Boom—!!
Frost burst forth, white mist enveloped the area, and a ten-meter-high ice hill shot up from the ground. The cold cross sword energy followed closely behind, crashing down with a roar. The tremendous noise sent shards of ice crystal flying like an explosion, and the thick ice hill cracked with a loud “snap,” collapsing in front of everyone’s astonished gaze, but it had successfully blocked the sword energy!
Behind the crowd, I withdrew my frost-covered arm, the blue glow fading from my eyes, yelling from atop the beast, “Go around! Everybody go around! Hurry! Get out of the Ice Mist range! Get away!”
After the ice hill collapsed, the scattered cold air began to seep into the crowd. Those running at the front started to feel the chill, their disheveled hair hinting at frost forming. Upon hearing my words, they promptly changed direction, leading those behind them to dodge the piled ice blocks and continue charging from the sides.
On the other side, the old pope urged his warthog forward, now running ahead of me. After the golden light surged from him, a massive bell formed above the old heretic, a deep resounding chime echoing across the battlefield. The old man swung his short sword, just as he struck down a cleric from a warthog’s back, a tremendous pressure suddenly slammed into him, as if a thousand pounds pressed down, forcing him to the ground!
“Child, it’s now! Go—”
The beast-taming clerics rushed to surround the old heretic, and amid the flashing golden light, several chains were whipped out again. At this moment, both the old pope and I maneuvered around the broken ice rocks, he shouted loudly at me, tracing a circle in the air with his fingertip. Two elaborately decorated holy lances materialized in an instant, carrying a roaring wind and shooting towards the fallen heretic.
Twenty meters.
The fierce wind was now in my face. The chaos-laden tornado, crackling with purple lightning, was just a moon step away from me.
There wasn’t time to hesitate or think—almost simultaneously with the old pope’s shout of “Go,” I stood up on the beast, gripping Captain Gray, and with a leap, I executed the Moon Step on the ice platform, shooting towards the eye of the storm like a bolt from a crossbow.
Bang—
Suddenly, from the corner of my vision, the downed old heretic was bound by shining golden chains. Flames of infernal fire erupted from his body. Amid the deafening boom, the terrifying shockwave spread out from under the bell, instantly flipping the beast-taming clerics circling around him. I was still airborne, and the charred burns began to spread across my skin.
This occurred in the blink of an eye. The holy lances shot by the old pope were still en route, the clerics in the front began to chant in unison, and the sin barrier encircling the heretic hadn’t formed yet. The golden bell didn’t have time to echo a second time. In the very center of the fiery explosion, flashes of blades suddenly emerged. Amidst the “clang, clang, clang” of the ringing sounds, the entangled chains were all sliced apart, and a heated short blade was hurled into the sky, striking the golden bell resoundingly and shattering it!
The next moment, the wind roared, an icy sword light cutting through the flames, slashing towards me—
d*mn!
I abruptly twisted in mid-air to narrowly evade this deadly strike; the scarlet line of fire barely grazed my nose. The terrifying sword energy cleaved a deep trench in the grassy earth, vanishing from sight, and the sharp gust slammed into my eardrums, filling my head with an incessant “buzz.” Before I could land, the old man’s figure flickered and suddenly appeared before me.
This was the first time someone managed to intercept me while I was using Moon Step, and my mind was blown. Just as I processed it, the old heretic had grabbed my arm in mid-air. He looked flustered, no longer retaining his distinguished old gentleman demeanor, and shouted, “Wait, listen to me—”
“Get lost!!!”
I had no choice but to not k*ll you first, and you still dared to come over and seek d*ath!
With a yank, I pulled him down with his frail body hitting the ground, raising my scythe, ready to slash down at the arm he held by.
Clang—
A flash of cold light! The old heretic’s left arm was severed clean from the elbow down, bl**d mixed with flames spurted out. He displayed a painful expression as we both tumbled to the ground, rolling a few times before getting up awkwardly. I hastily stood up, my eyes narrowed in a fierce glare, looking ahead.
The chaotic storm was now merely within arm’s reach, but the old heretic was blocking it behind him, his white hair dancing wildly in the roaring wind. He didn’t rush to attack, just opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something.
Boom—
In the next instant, a deep blue lightning bolt shot in from my left, its thunderous momentum remarkable, accompanied by a crackling boom that violently pushed the old heretic and whatever he was about to say far away from my sight.
I caught a glimpse of a figure in the lightning.
Carlos…
No, wait… it’s a woman…
“Into the storm—”
The old pope’s urgent voice came from behind, golden light suddenly blossomed before my eyes, swirling into the storm and forcefully creating a path.
“Quick! There’s no time!”
The urging voice sounded again. I couldn’t afford to hesitate; gritting my teeth, I dashed forward with Moon Step, zipping through the path carved by the golden light, and as my vision blur, the endless trunks of trees appeared before me.
I reached out to touch them.
