“Hey, Senior, why are you just staring at me?”
Leon’s eight-core brain was spinning faster than a washing machine on full cycle, trying to concoct the perfect excuse for “a weak public dragon who married into the Silver Dragon family and just so happened to slay the Red Flame Dragon King, Constantine.”
His CPU was practically smoking, and yet the ideal explanation eluded him like a cat playing hard to get.
Gripping his pants tightly, his palms were sweaty enough to turn them into mini water balloons. Seriously, he was less nervous when he first stepped onto the battlefield! So, in a way, his sister-in-law was far scarier than Constantine.
The secret about their little fake family with Roswiser could never get out.
His identity, his past, and the tangle of emotions between him and Roswiser—if any of it slipped into the wrong ears, it could spell doom for this ‘Dragon Race’ family.
Leon wasn’t about to cut slack just because Isar was Roswiser’s sister. If anything, he felt more pressure! Because if she found out that her sister had married a human and now had three daughters, how would a pureblood dragon like Isar react?
He had no chips to play in this gamble.
Winning meant everyone would celebrate, but losing? His daughters would be left in a fog of confusion and shame! How would they view their dad? Would they have to grapple with the fact that they were not pureblooded dragons? Their futures were a big scary question mark!
So, of course, Leon, ever the cautious one, could not afford to take any rash risks.
“What’s the matter, brother-in-law? Can’t handle a simple introduction?”
Isar’s smile was sweet, but her eyes held a mix of vigilance and scrutiny. “It’s just a basic self-intro.”
And honestly, who could blame her for being suspicious? They’d been at this three years now, and all her info on Leon was second-hand, courtesy of her sister.
Her suspicions were not about any nefarious scheme regarding her sister—that was evident in the way those two loved up on each other.
Every time they gazed at one another, it was like watching a syrupy romance movie, complete with fluttering hearts and all the cheese!
Seriously, Isar was drowning in dog food over here.
And now, pushing Leon for some clarity was just for her own peace of mind.
Maybe her brother-in-law was escaping some big bad enemy by keeping a low profile, marrying Roswiser, but surely she had to know at least some of the story.
Leon was practically glued to the edge of the bed, every pore in his body sweating bullets.
He sneaked a glance at Roswiser, who was clenching the blanket to her face, leaving just her stunning silver eyes peeking out.
Those eyes blinked at him—left one shouted “Innocent!” and right was more like “Clueless!”
Come on, Roswiser, just get with the program!
They exchanged their usual silent communication.
Leon: “Hey, where’s the backup? Help a guy out!”
Roswiser: “O M O”
Leon: “Senior Roswiser, are you seriously just gonna sit there and watch?”
Roswiser: “Sorry, can’t help. I’ve never won an argument against my sister since I was a kid. Good luck!”
Leon: “Alright, then I guess I’ll just go for it.”
Roswiser: “Huh?… Big idiot, what are you planning?”
Leon: “Slaying one dragon? That’s nothing! Slaying two? Piece of cake! Hope you’re ready for this, sis, I’m about to send her a little gift—”
Roswiser: “No messing around, you fool! You’ve got five seconds to think of a reason. If you don’t, my sister will assume you’re plotting something dirty with our Silver Dragon clan.”
Leon: “She’s not wrong; three years ago, I was definitely scheming…”
Roswiser: “……”
She pulled the blanket over her head, hiding her face.
“Brother-in-law, my patience is running thin—”
“Actually!” Leon shot straight, puffing out his chest.
Isar crossed her arms, one eyebrow raised, “Actually?”
“Actually, I’ve always had this dream,” Leon declared dramatically, eyes sparkling with sincerity.
Isar blinked. “N-no, brother-in-law, I don’t want to know your dreams; I’m asking—”
“I dreamed of meeting a special dragon when I grew up.”
At this, Roswiser poked her head out from under the blanket, her curiosity piqued by Leon’s storytelling.
Isar shifted from crossed arms to balancing one hand on her chin and the other on her hip.
What was going on in that head of her brother-in-law?
“We would meet in a special place, under extraordinary circumstances.”
“No plans for the future, just riding the waves of life, waiting for surprises to come.”
“I long to have a beautiful married life with her, free from interruptions.”
“Chasing this dream led me to travel the whole Dragon Race, trekking across mountains and rivers.”
“And just when I thought I’d sunk into despair, I found her.”
As he passionately spun his tale, Leon glanced at Roswiser, his gaze intense and full of feelings.
“My destiny, my one true fire, my forever love, Roswiser.”
“It was you who pulled me from the dark; you made me feel the warmth of home.”
“I vow to protect you for life.”
“If anyone dares to harm you, I will personally send them to hell—with a side of Constantine’s powerful b*tt whoopings!”
Meanwhile, the Queen’s inner monologue: “I’ve already had a daughter! Why are these words making me feel sick…?”
The couple stared into each other’s eyes.
Leon’s gaze was deep, simmering with emotion; the queen looked disgusted but had to play along.
*Clap clap clap*
Isar was over there slowly clapping, “So touching, so sweet—what a destined romance!”
Leon let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
Who would’ve thought this spur-of-the-moment nonsense would actually work on Isar? Guess the ten-month prenatal education had paid off.
He’d practiced reciting poems to ensure their precious daughters absorbed human culture!
Ah, it pays to be versatile on this adventure!
But before Leon could bask in relief, Isar suddenly dropped the fake facade of mushiness and coolly said,
“However, you still haven’t answered my question, brother-in-law. I don’t care how you fell for my sister; I want to know your background.”
Leon’s eyes darted around, collecting his thoughts, “Uh, actually, my answer was wrapped up in that story. To protect Roswiser and keep my promises, I’ve fought hard to become stronger. The struggles I faced? Only I know the pain.”
Sighing, he patted Roswiser’s hand, continuing solemnly, “But every hardship was worth it. Today, I really did keep my wife and daughters safe. Don’t you agree, sister?”
Isar made a little “tsk” noise.
Sure, he’d babbled a lot, but did it mean anything…?
Should she dig deeper or let it go?
Would prying be rude?
“Sibling, Leon is truly dedicated to this family. He wouldn’t hide anything from me; I know him well.”
Roswiser chimed in at just the right moment, “I know you’re worried, but I promise Leon loves this family.”
Isar sighed inwardly.
“Fine, while I still don’t get how you defeated Constantine, watching the chemistry between you two, I might have overreacted.”
She looked at Leon, “At least you’re genuinely fulfilling your promises.”
Leon grinned, “A man should never go back on his word.”
Roswiser rolled her eyes at the fool who kept spouting, “This is how men should be.”
As the strongest Dragon Slayer, he still had that sprinkle of childishness that didn’t quite fit his title.
But it was all good.
In fact, it was these little quirks that made Roswiser feel like he was genuinely a *human*, not just a perfect being molded by fate.
The queen slowly closed her eyes, listening to Leon and Isar chatting about the little one.
The fatigue and weakness after giving birth swept over her, taking her to the land of dreams.
Before sleep claimed her, the silver-haired beauty’s lips curled into a slight smile.
