4 I’m Not Familiar with Your Sister-in-law
When they returned to the cave, the master and disciple were still chatting away about all sorts of recent happenings.
Hearing footsteps, Leon turned around.
He saw a tall and short pair walking side by side, chatting, their faces beaming like old friends reuniting after years apart.
Leon was stunned.
Weren’t these two still getting acquainted half an hour ago?
How on earth did they become best buddies in just over twenty minutes?
“Captain, Old Man, we’re back!” Rebecca jogged over, “Did you finish your chat?”
“Almost.”
Leon glanced at the inexplicably excited Rebecca and then looked up at the Mother Dragon behind her, “What did you tell her?”
Roswiser innocently shrugged, “I didn’t tell her anything!”
It was all her who spilled the tea, heehee.
Leon rolled his eyes and mumbled “This is weird,” then continued his talk with the Master about the Empire.
He recapped the plans for the next six months.
Then he asked about the Sea Dragon Race and the Nine Gates of Hell.
“The Nine Gates of Hell was written by the Sea Dragon Race? Huh? I didn’t know, I just had someone swipe a physical training manual from the Empire. I didn’t expect to steal something so hefty.”
“I don’t know.”
Predictably, the “I don’t know.”
Leon didn’t push it any further.
Though he had a nagging feeling the old man was hiding something, since he asked so directly and the Master still kept quiet, there must be a good reason for it.
“Oh, by the way, Master, look into these three people later.”
Saying this, Leon handed over a list.
Taige took a look and said, “Gini, Kite, Jimei… Just from their names, it feels like these three aren’t simple.”
“Yeah, in the future, they’re the Empire’s ‘Sharp Blade Special Forces,’ super strong, constantly hunting down the Dragon King for over ten years, but I feel like their power is a bit weird—doesn’t quite match normal human magic.”
Leon said, “If you get the chance, find out more about them.”
Taige nodded, tucking the list away properly, “Okay, I’ll start investigating as soon as we get back.”
In the future, Leon only briefly encountered the Sharp Blade Trio, and that didn’t even count as a proper clash.
Yet, even so, the strength those three displayed made Leon take them a bit more seriously.
What’s more, it wasn’t just Leon who felt the trio’s power was off; even in the future, Noia and Little Light had commented on how mysterious their strength seemed.
So Leon thought it was necessary to investigate them.
It would be best to nip any unknown threats in the bud.
Who knows what kind of crazy stuff the Empire could pull off next?
“Is there anything else that needs checking?” Taige asked.
Leon had brought back a lot of intel from the future, and they needed to utilize every bit of it.
It was all about the information gap.
Surprise the dog emperor!
Leon thought for a moment and then said, “Let’s look into someone named Nacho Salaman.”
“Nacho Salaman?”
“Yeah, he used to be a minor official in the Empire’s Dragon Slayer Army, but after pushing me into a spatial rift, he managed to crawl his way up to the royal family. The Sharp Blade Trio has a very close relationship with him, so there might be something we can dig up there.”
“Got it. Anything else?”
“Hmm… If there’s more, it’s not related to the Empire.”
Taige chuckled, “Just spit it out.”
“Master, do you know anything about Primordial Magic?” Leon asked.
“Primordial Magic…”
As soon as the two mentioned Primordial Magic, Roswiser, who had been quietly waiting, suddenly perked up.
She was a bit surprised because Leon hadn’t mentioned he was going to ask his master about Primordial Magic before coming here.
But then again, ever since she decided to practice it, her progress hadn’t been very smooth.
As she had initially thought, records about Primordial Magic were scarce, and she could only gather bits and pieces from various ancient texts and documents, then try to piece them together.
It was complex and required a lot of patience.
“I’ve heard of it, but I don’t know much. Why, you want to practice Primordial Magic?”
Leon blinked, saying, “Yeah, I want to give it a go.”
“You finished the Nine Gates of Hell I gave you last time?”
“I just said, in the future, your little granddaughter taught me almost everything. Plus, in this line of work, the more skills, the better—who wouldn’t want to have more tricks up their sleeve?”
The Master poked Leon playfully, “You greedy little rascal. Alright, when I get back, I’ll ask some old friends if they can find any books on Primordial Magic. I’ll bring them to you next time we meet.”
“Sounds great, thanks, Master!”
Having wrapped up the serious discussion, Leon then inquired about his master’s wife.
“Oh, your master’s wife… After you disappeared into the spatial rift, I had a meeting with her.”
The Master sighed with emotion, “She gave me a good whacking and said not to come back without finding Leon. Speaking of which, I owe you one for that; good thing you’re back, or your master’s wife might’ve kicked me to the curb.”
Okay, “kicked to the curb” might be a bit of an exaggeration.
But Leon could tell his master’s wife was genuinely worried about him.
“Next time we meet, why don’t you bring my master’s wife along? It’s been a while since I’ve seen her,” Leon said.
“Well… I can’t say for sure. Her family is quite… cautious; they know we’ve stirred up trouble with the Empire and don’t want her getting involved.”
Leon quickly nodded, “Oh, got it. No pressure. We can go see her after everything is sorted.”
“Yeah. If there’s nothing else, we’ll leave it at that.”
“Okay, Master.”
“Be careful on your way back, remember to train hard, don’t slack off,” the Master reminded him.
“Got it, Master. You, Rebecca, and Martin need to take care of yourselves too.”
“Yeah.”
Rebecca jogged over, “Captain, I wish you and your sister-in-law a wonderful life together!”
Leon stared at her for a moment, “You… Why are you suddenly saying this… and what’s with this ‘sister-in-law’ business? Roswiser, are you really letting her call you that?”
The Queen elegantly lounged in a nearby wooden chair, crossing her long legs, and said leisurely, “What’s wrong with that?”
Wowza.
You two have only known each other for a short time, and you’re already best pals, huh?
Leon chuckled, poking Rebecca on the forehead, “Crazy girl, don’t go spouting nonsense. I’m not that familiar with your sister-in-law.”
Rebecca: ?
Alright, alright, you two have fun pretending not to know each other.
“Well, see you next time!”
Leon waved goodbye to the old and young duo and then headed toward the cave entrance with Roswiser.
The Queen spread her dragon wings and turned her head halfway, giving Rebecca a cheeky wink.
Rebecca raised her hand in an ‘OK’ gesture.
Taige watched the interplay between her and Roswiser and couldn’t help but ask, “What secret codes are you two exchanging?”
Rebecca grinned and said mysteriously, “Old man, your disciple’s newlywed life… is about to get a lot more colorful.”
