39 Forgive Little Light
Twenty minutes ago, the first subject of the young dragon entrance exam ended, and there were still four subjects to go.
Little Light sat at the back of the classroom, watching the little exam-takers from different races. She brainstormed on how to find some fun in such a serious exam venue.
Just then, Moon walked over to her.
“Little Light.”
“What’s up, Big Sis?”
“Are you feeling unwell?” Moon asked seriously.
Little Light blinked and shook her head. “Nah, why do you ask?”
“I saw you resting your head on the desk for half the exam — doesn’t that mean you’re not feeling well?”
“Ah, c’mon… It wasn’t half the time, more like a quarter!~”
Seeing her little sister still crack jokes, Moon felt less worried.
But she still advised, “If you’re not feeling okay, you must tell the proctor immediately.”
“Yeah, I got it. Thanks, Big Sis!”
Honestly, Little Light wasn’t slacking off intentionally; she was busy doing something “big” —
Controlling her score!
As the name suggests, controlling the score means keeping it within a range she wants.
Usually, this is a trick used by bored overachievers to show off.
But Little Light’s score control wasn’t for showing off; she simply wanted to land somewhere in the ‘middle.’
As everyone knows, if you want to see some fun, you definitely cannot be the one at the top.
All attention will be on the “leader” of the team.
And the more spotlight you get, the higher the chance of embarrassing yourself — the level of social d*ath will also reach new heights.
Little Light aimed to “see the fun,” not to “become the fun.”
So, she randomly scribbled some answers on her exam — just enough to lower her score and avoid being the center of attention as “number one.”
On the other hand, her senior sister Noia was first in everything, and as her younger sister, if she was also a top student, conversations about Little Light would surely overshadow Noia.
Little Light didn’t know what Big Sis thought, but for herself, she definitely didn’t want to be the subject of gossip.
So controlling her score was quite necessary.
Plus, Little Light had calculated in advance.
Even if their parents flipped the interview panel’s table and got her a super~~~~ low score, no biggie — she would manage her scores just enough to pass the entrance test.
Then, when she carried her little school bag into her class, she could promptly lock in on the most dazzling “leader” in the classroom —
Slam dunk for fun and inspiration, served on a silver platter!
I’m truly a genius of fun as a member of the Silver Dragon Race, she thought.
But she didn’t plan to share this thought with her Big Sis.
Let’s not even talk about whether Big Sis would understand her fun-loving mindset and motives, given that Moon came to the academy to follow in Big Sis Noia’s footsteps — and to prevent any other little dragoness from stealing her Big Sis away — so the thought of intentionally controlling her scores was probably not something Big Sis would do.
Anyway, Little Light was managing her scores smoothly. She only needed to push her scores just a bit lower to achieve a mid-level result.
“The questions for this year’s test are so hard!”
“Yeah, I had no clue on many of them; I just doodled!”
“I heard from a senior in our clan that the difficulty this year is much higher than previous years.”
“Really? Why?”
“Who knows… maybe the academy wants more talented young dragons.”
“……”
The other young dragons in the exam hall talked about the test difficulty.
Moon and Little Light were just in earshot.
“I agree, the questions seem really tough,” Moon said.
Little Light nodded along. “Yeah, totally.”
That was true.
While looking for fun is fun, Little Light was still seriously answering questions, just to ensure she got the ones she answered right.
The previous exam questions their dad had shared with them didn’t compare to the level of difficulty they were facing now.
Many of the items were nothing like before, relying solely on the candidates’ understanding of magic and knowledge, really testing the kids’ independent thinking abilities.
Little Light thought she was the only one finding the questions tough — turns out everyone felt the same!
“But Dad teaches really well, I answered all the questions, even the types I’ve never seen before. I’m not sure if I got them right, but I found some basic thoughts,” Moon said.
Little Light gave her Big Sis a thumbs-up.
She believed in her sister’s abilities.
Even though Big Sis mostly appeared as the “laid-back mascot,” Little Light had realized long ago that Big Sis wasn’t half-heartedly slacking off; she only relaxed after completing all her tasks.
As for why Big Sis seemed to be resting most of the time — simple:
She finished those tasks super quickly.
It’s the law of work-life balance.
“My score will definitely be low this time, oh no, I won’t qualify for this year’s model family!”
“Don’t worry, as long as we get through the test, that’s all that matters. I’m not too obsessed with being a model family,” Little Light reassured.
“Looking back at the model families from the past three years, they were all such experts! Especially the senior called Noia K. Melkway from three years ago; I’ve heard she’s gotten full marks in every subject till now!”
“……”
The exam candidates shifted their topic from difficulty to model families.
Little Light perked her ears, listening intently.
“Big Sis, what’s a model family?”
“Oh, a model family! Every year at Saint His Academy, there are two entrance tests, and each test selects one family with the highest scores as the model family.”
Moon put her hands on her hips, proudly wagging her tail and shaking her little tuft of hair on her head. “Mom, Dad, and I scored the highest in both written and interview tests back in our day, so we were chosen as that year’s model family.”
Little Light’s eyes sparkled. “Wow~ I didn’t know our family had such a glorious history!”
“Yep!”
Moon said dreamily, “Little Light, we should aim for high scores this year, okay?~”
Little Light tilted her head. “About that…”
Giving up the chance to see fun just for the title of “model family” is a tough call.
Ugh—
A bit hard to choose.
“Then Dad and Mom would take us on stage to give a speech!”
On stage.
A speech.
Sounds like fun, but… not enough.
“I remember Dad kissed Mom back then~ and —”
“Wait! Big Sis, what did you just say?”
“I said Dad kissed Mom during his speech, right in front of all the people!”
In front of a whole crowd —
He kissed Mom!
Little Light: ✪ω✪!
Comparing the embarrassment of Daddy kissing Mommy in public to trying to find inspiration from the top student after school is just weak sauce!
Indeed, I, Aurora, was born into the right family; whenever I think life is about to get dull and boring, my family always manages to come up with something that dazzles me!
Just thinking about how Dad and Mom, who take forever to even hold hands, had to kiss in front of so many people got Little Light’s soul of fun bubbling over.
I told you, coming to the academy is guaranteed to uncover new fun!
Ding ding ding —
Soon, the bell rang, signaling the start of the next exam.
Moon hurried back to her seat.
The proctor distributed the exam papers to each candidate.
Little Light lowered her head, looking at the paper titled “Introduction to Magic Basics.” After a moment, she smirked, cracked her knuckles, relaxed her neck, then slowly picked up the pencil in front of her.
“Dad, Mom, forgive Little Light, this time — I’m going for full marks!”
