48 She’s Back!
The atmosphere in the cave suddenly turned serious
— infused with a hint of that teenage angst vibe —
Even after living with Leon for so long, Roswiser still didn’t quite grasp the human emotional rollercoaster.
Arms crossed, she tilted her head and leaned closer to Rebecca’s ear, whispering,
“What’s going on? Why do they look like they’re about to charge into battle?”
Rebecca chuckled, patiently explaining to her beautiful sister-in-law,
“Sis, do you really think the Captain’s vibe and hero complex came out of nowhere? It’s all thanks to his master teaching him well!”
“So you’re saying Leon’s personality has a lot to do with Taige?”
“Of course! They say sons take after their fathers. Even if they’re not bl**d-related, spending so many years together means there are bound to be similarities.”
Roswiser squinted at her fake husband, her mind racing as she mulled over Rebecca’s words about “sons taking after their fathers.”
She couldn’t help but wonder what she’d do if one day Noia grew up to have that same teen angst vibe…
When she was little, she was a cool, aloof gal, which was understandable;
But if she grew up to be a full-on angsty magical girl, Roswiser would lose her mind!
But…
Shaking her head to clear her jumbled thoughts, she let out a quiet sigh and lifted her gaze to Leon’s profile.
Determined, handsome, and those scars just added to his fierce aura.
A smirk crept up on the Queen’s lips.
“Let them be angsty, let them be heroes. Honestly, it’s all… kind of cute.”
Rebecca missed the first half of that sentence and only caught the ‘cute’ part.
With a gleam in her eye, she looked up at Roswiser and beamed, “Sis, are you calling me cute?”
Roswiser lowered her eyes, pinching Rebecca’s cheek playfully while grinning, “Cute is an insult in Dragon culture, you know~”
“Tsk~”
At the wooden table, master and disciple continued their serious discussion.
As expected, the intel brought by the master was extensive, just as Leon had predicted.
Good thing he brought paper and pen, so he could jot down all the crucial info.
Even if most of it was grim news, it was better than realizing the enemy was at their doorstep and panicking.
“Looks like it’s about all of it, Leon.” Taige said.
“Hmm… got it.”
Taige observed his disciple’s reaction, “You seem… a bit worried?”
Leon forced a laugh and shook his head, “It’s hard to smile knowing the Empire is looming over us, Master.”
“Indeed.”
Taige sighed in agreement, “Our situation is growing more urgent, so we must uncover the truth and expose the Empire’s conspiracy against the Dragon Race.”
Leon’s mind flickered, “Yeah… it’s time to take the initiative.”
“Take the initiative? What do you plan to do?”
“Not sure yet. I had no idea the bad news would come in so hot before I arrived.”
Leon said, “But from here on, I’ll start formulating a plan.”
“No problem. I, Rebecca, and Martin will try to gather more intel for you.”
Leon smiled, giving his fist a light bump with Taige’s, “Thanks, Master.”
Taige raised his hand and lightly bumped Leon’s fist, “With just one disciple like you, I’ve got to do all I can to help.”
“Speaking of help, Master, I asked you to find some books on Primordial Magic last time… any progress?”
With a proud grin, Taige announced, “Funny you should mention that. I actually found a book on Primordial Magic.”
Saying that, he pulled out a dusty tome from his bag and handed it to Leon.
Once the two started discussing Primordial Magic, Roswiser’s curiosity piqued, and she turned to watch.
Leon held the old book, the title on the cover was a bit worn but still recognizable as the common ancient script of the Samariel continent.
With numerous races on the continent, some were outright rivals, like humans and dragons;
Yet, there were also races that shared mutually beneficial relationships.
However, because different races had different cultures, a common written language had emerged.
Leon had learned some of the ancient script while in the Dragon-slaying Academy.
So the title of this book should be…
“Primordial Magic: Soul… End…? That’s how it’s translated, right, Master?”
“Close enough.”
Taige corrected, “It’s ‘Primordial Magic: Soul Judgment.’ I pulled some strings to get this one, so you better take good care of it and practice diligently.”
“Of course, Master, thanks a bunch!”
Leon tucked the tome away, turned to Roswiser, and slyly winked at her.
The Queen’s cheeks flushed.
Alright, alright, you win! This is totally not going to your head or anything.
“Sis.”
“Uh… huh?”
“Why are you blushing?”
“… It’s just a bit hot, okay?”
Rebecca glanced at her heavy jacket in confusion, wondering how it could be hot enough in the caverns to make anyone blush…
Indeed, the Dragon Race was something else entirely compared to humans.
After another half an hour of their deep dive into research, the two stood up and bid farewell.
“Finished already, you two saviors?”
Rebecca teased as she stepped forward, “I thought for sure you’d be plotting how to take over the world for this long.”
“When I take over the world, the very first decree will be to shut the mouths of all Artillery Masters!”
“Despot!”
Leon chuckled, giving Rebecca a playful pat on the head, “Take care of yourself, you crazy girl.”
“Uh-huh, will do.”
“Say hi to Martin for me.”
“Sure thing.”
The couple exchanged glances before striding toward the cave exit.
“See you later, sis!”
“Bye-bye, darling.” Roswiser waved with a smile.
“What a cringe-worthy title.”
“I’ll call you whatever I want! Go on, fly back on your own if you can.”
“Alright, alright, I’m sorry, hehe.”
What an adaptable man he is!
Roswiser scoffed, rolling her eyes, then spread her Dragon Wings and took off into the sky with Leon.
The silver dragon soared among the clouds, with Leon sitting atop its back, flipping open the ancient book his master had just given him.
“‘Primordial Magic: Soul Judgment’, sounds like a pretty specific name for a magic book.”
Leon mused, “So… this isn’t just ‘about’ Primordial Magic. It’s actually a detailed account of a type of Primordial Magic, right?”
“Seems likely,” Roswiser replied.
She paused and asked, “The Silver Dragon Race has a thousand-year history, yet we can’t find a complete original text on Primordial Magic. But your master managed to dig one up in three months…”
“Just a regular farmer, I bet he dug it up while farming.”
Roswiser ignored Leon’s joke and continued, “Let’s see who the author of this book is.”
“Okay.”
Leon flipped to the first page, where the author’s name was written in ancient script as well.
When he translated it, his pupils involuntarily twitched a bit.
Seeing Leon’s delay in answering, Roswiser asked, “What’s up? Did you discover something wrong with the author’s identity?”
“Yeah… there’s something big wrong.”
Leon swallowed hard, then slowly read out loud the name of the author of this tome on Primordial Magic,
“Claudia Poseidon.”
