Chapter 101: I’ll Be Eating You for a Lifetime!
After getting the bombshell news from Constantine, Leon couldn’t shake the feeling that the day this conspiracy ends is getting closer.
So when he said that the progress from his Master was the last piece of the puzzle, it wasn’t an exaggeration.
Their next meeting with the Master is probably about a month away.
Even if the Master isn’t quick, Leon can provide a powerful clue.
Following that clue to gather evidence is definitely better than flailing around like a headless chicken.
“No matter what, we absolutely cannot let that bunch of ambitious fools in the Empire continue to run wild.”
That evening, Leon bent slightly, leaned against the balcony railing, and gazed into the deep night sky.
His mind was a bit of a mess; even though overhauling that wretched emperor wasn’t far off, right now felt more like the dangerous darkness before dawn.
Every step from here on out has to be more cautious than ever.
Leon doesn’t want to screw it all up.
Suddenly, the sound of high heels clicked behind him, breaking Leon’s train of thought.
Turning around, he saw the silver-haired beauty, Roswiser, stepping up beside him, gazing into the distance. Her profile was stunning, though there was a hint of fatigue on her brow.
“Another busy day, huh, Roswiser?” Leon started the conversation.
The Queen let out a weary smile, “Well, I’m used to it. What about Noia and the others?”
“They’re already asleep.”
“Oh… Looks like I’ll have to get off work early tomorrow, or I won’t get to say goodnight to the girls.”
“Moon said you haven’t said goodnight to them in three days.”
Roswiser shook her head helplessly, rubbing her sore neck, “The recent wars outside the Dragon Race have taken a new turn. Everyone’s too busy looking for allies, so besides domestic affairs, I’ve had quite a bit of diplomatic work to handle.”
“A new turn?”
“Yeah.”
As she spoke, Roswiser sank onto the long bench on the balcony.
Her neck and shoulders were stiffening, and her back was starting to ache; standing for too long was becoming a challenge.
Seeing this, Leon quietly moved behind her and began to massage her shoulders.
Strong fingers pressed into her shoulder muscles, and Roswiser could feel every bit of pressure, just the way she liked it.
She closed her eyes and leaned back slightly, indulging in the massage from the Empire’s most formidable Dragon Slayer.
“What’s this new turn?” Leon asked as he continued to massage.
“Remember that little trio the Empire formed when you went to the future?”
A trio?
Leon paused momentarily, then realized who Roswiser was talking about.
“The Sharp Blade Trio, right?”
“Yep! The Empire has sent them to the border battlefield to engage the Dragon Race stationed there in a few battles.”
It’s not unusual for conflicts to happen on the borderlands. It doesn’t warrant urgency among the various Dragon Races to seek allies.
Unless, of course, the Dragon Race hasn’t won a single battle against them.
“That trio is every bit as you described—perfectly synchronized and with power that’s off the charts.”
Roswiser continued, “Originally, the Dragon Race had pushed the battle lines outward significantly, but once the Sharp Blade Trio entered the battlefield, they were forcibly pushed back and even lost some territory. Clearly, these three guys… are indeed exaggeratedly strong.”
Twenty years into the future, Leon never personally witnessed the Sharp Blade Trio in action on the battlefield against Dragonkind, but he did have a brief encounter with them.
He had to admit, each one had at least the strength of a Dragon King and wielded powers entirely different from the magic system taught by the human Empire for centuries.
It was later discovered that they also used Primal Power.
From Roswiser’s description, these three must have mastered the use of Primal Power by now; otherwise, there’s no way they could force the prideful Dragon Race into a speedy alliance.
“Last time the Dragon Race was this united… was five years ago,” Roswiser said wistfully.
“Five years ago?”
“Yep.”
She tilted her head back against the chair, opening her beautiful silver eyes to look at the man behind her.
Even from this angle, one could tell he was ruggedly handsome.
“That man in the black armor made his way right into the territory of my Silver Dragons and almost captured me.”
Leon rolled his eyes, making a face, then shifted his fingers from Roswiser’s shoulder to her cheek, gently pinching her flesh.
“Are you sure I didn’t capture you first?”
“Let go!”
“Nope.”
“You!—”
Roswiser, true to her stubborn nature, returned the favor and raised her arm, pinching Leon’s cheek right back.
What a spectacle, right? A couple in their hundreds still squabbling like schoolchildren.
After some playful teasing, Leon eventually released his grip.
Roswiser rubbed her slightly reddened cheeks and shot him an eye-roll. “You’re so immature, Casmod.”
Leon patted the side of his face, slightly warmed from the pinch, “But it’s this childish man who defeated your Dragon Race five years ago, leaving you in tatters.”
“And then honorably became my captive.”
“…”
Seeing the blank expression on the fool’s face, Roswiser smiled with satisfaction.
Teasing her silly captive had completely wiped away her fatigue.
After the massage session wrapped up, Roswiser stood up and stretched, looking fabulous, even lifting her tail in the process.
Once her fatigue lifted, she turned to Leon, circling back to the topic again.
“In any case, lately, the various Dragon Races living near the border have finally remembered the fear instilled by your black armor.”
Leon blinked, asking, “If everyone’s recalling the terror of the black armor, why do you still look so relaxed?”
Roswiser replied bluntly, “Because the black armor is my husband.”
“…”
Well, she’s not wrong, technically.
Just a bit too surprising.
“I’m just kidding. It’s because my Silver Dragon territory is a bit closer to the heart of the Dragon Race. Even once upon a time, it took you years to reach this far, didn’t it?”
Leon nodded thoughtfully, “That makes sense…”
“And besides, the day you clear your name and overthrow the Empire is getting closer, isn’t it? By then, it won’t matter if it’s a trio or a ten-person squad. This war will be temporarily alleviated once the ambitions of those schemers are exposed.”
Roswiser sighed in relief, waving her long arms and turning her gaze to the night sky.
Gazing at the bright moon above, she suddenly spoke again.
“Leon.”
“Hmm?”
“When it’s all over, will you leave this home?”
This family came about entirely by chance, and they’ve reached where they are today because of their promise to each other: to give their daughters a complete childhood.
As days go by, their daughters will grow up, and the Empire will be headed for its finale. So will Leon still stay here?
Roswiser knew he loved this home, loved their daughters, and loved… her, his nominal wife.
But she didn’t know if Leon would actually leave.
Or perhaps… she just wanted to hear Leon say it.
The couple gazed at each other under the night sky, their black and silver eyes shimmering with the starlight.
After a long moment of staring, Leon looked straight into her captivating eyes and smiled.
“Did you forget, Your Majesty? I’m planning to eat you for a lifetime.”
