Cheers, My Beloved Wife
Thump thump thump—
“Coming!”
Leon went to answer the door.
Outside were Moon and Noia.
“Mom—eh? Dad? Did you sleep in Mom’s room last night?” Moon’s face was full of anticipation and gossip.
Leon smiled awkwardly, ruffling his hair. “Yeah, we were deep into discussing poetry, song lyrics, and the mysteries of the universe and lost track of time. I just crashed here.”
“Then next time when you and Mom sleep together, can you bring me along?”
“Of course!”
“Yay! Long live Dad~”
Moon was about to leap into Leon’s arms when he made a shushing gesture.
“Shh~ Mom’s sick and still sleeping. Don’t wake her up, okay?”
Moon’s smile froze. “Sick? How did that happen?”
Leon opened the door wider. “You’ll see if you go in and check.”
The two little ones exchanged glances and hurried inside.
When they reached the bedroom, Mom really was lying on the bed, out cold.
“Mom!” Moon called out, immediately running over.
She stood by the bed and gently poked Roswiser’s wrist, but got no response.
“How did Mom get sick?” Noia turned to Leon.
Leon stood at the bedroom door, hands in his pockets, explaining calmly, “We chatted for a long time on the balcony last night. Before we knew it, we fell asleep, and with the cold wind blowing all night, she caught a cold.”
He paused and added, “Or maybe it’s worse than just a cold.”
He knew Noia was clever and mature for her age.
But no matter how clever and mature she was, she was still just a little dragon girl a bit over one year old.
In her limited knowledge, illness wasn’t really covered much.
Leon was counting on that as he casually made up the story.
“But don’t worry, Dad will take good care of Mom,” Leon said.
Moon held Roswiser’s cool hand, sniffled, and said with worry, “Mom, you really should be more careful. You need to get better soon, okay? Once you do, I promise I won’t make you mad anymore.”
The atmosphere in the room grew a bit heavy.
Just then, the maid Anna knocked on the door.
Leon had left it open, and Anna stood at the entrance, holding some nutritional supplements.
“Your Royal Highness, the nutritional supplements you asked for are here.”
“Oh, thank you. Just put them by the bed.”
“Of course, Your Royal Highness.”
Anna walked into the bedroom, and upon seeing Moon and Noia, she respectfully greeted them, “Good morning, Your Highnesses.”
“Anna, my mom is sick,” Noia said.
While arranging the supplements, Anna replied, “When I came to check on Her Majesty this morning, Your Royal Highness had already informed me. I also did an examination, and yes, she is quite weak, but all her indicators are normal. A few days of rest, and she should be just fine. No need to worry too much.”
Having set up the supplements, Anna turned and smiled, “I’ll take care of the family matters for the next few days in Her Majesty’s absence. If Your Highnesses and Your Royal Highness are interested, you can come by anytime to supervise my work.”
“Okay, thank you, Anna.”
“No trouble at all! If it means easing Her Majesty’s burdens, it’s my pleasure! If there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to work now, Your Royal Highness.”
“Alright.”
Anna nodded to Leon and the little dragon girls before hurriedly leaving.
Leon stretched his arms. “See? Anna said Mom’s fine. You can relax now.”
As he spoke, he crouched down and wiped the tears from Moon’s eyes. “Alright, in a few days, you’ll see a lively Mom again. No more crying, okay?”
Moon vigorously nodded. “Yeah, I won’t cry anymore.”
“Good girl. Now stay here and keep Mom company, but don’t get too close; colds are contagious, you know.”
“Got it, I understand.”
With that, Moon moved to the bed, maintaining a safe distance, gazing at her unconscious mom.
She was really that sweet, obedient girl, though quite simple.
Her emotions were clear as day, making it easy to deal with.
At that moment, Moon’s little tuft and tail drooped dejectedly.
Although Roswiser was usually strict with them, she was still their mom.
What kind of kid could act like nothing was wrong when their mom was sick?
Leon sighed in relief, his gaze inadvertently catching Moon’s droopy tail.
He blinked. Something felt off…
What was it…?
It was…
Suddenly, he remembered—it seemed he hadn’t seen Roswiser’s tail when he made the bed just now.
Leon opened his mouth, about to ask what was going on.
But right as the words formed, he swallowed them back.
Because neither Anna earlier, nor now Moon and Noia, showed the slightest surprise or curiosity about “Roswiser’s missing tail.”
Which meant this was pretty standard for the Dragon Race.
Totally not something worth asking about.
If he did, it would surely raise…
The eldest daughter’s suspicions.
Thinking that, Leon glanced at Noia.
And sure enough, the little ice queen was giving him the d*ath stare.
Leon rubbed his forehead. “What’s up?”
Noia withdrew her gaze. “Nothing.”
Why was he just staring at Moon’s tail? And then looking mildly surprised at her mother’s waist?
Noia’s mind twitched, lost in thought.
…
The two sisters accompanied Roswiser all morning.
When lunch time rolled around, they were led away by the maid.
But Noia stopped just a few steps down the hallway, turning to Leon, silently watching him.
“Why are you looking at me again?” Leon leaned against the door frame.
Noia squinted slightly, lowering her voice, “Mom’s out cold right now. Do you… have some kind of plan?”
That sounded a bit odd at first.
But Leon wasn’t about to treat this lightly.
His eldest daughter was sharp; she wouldn’t just ask out of the blue like that.
Maybe she sensed something?
“I don’t have any plans, Noia. I just want to take care of Mom properly,” Leon replied calmly.
No panic, no forced sincerity—just easygoing like they were having a normal chat.
Noia held his gaze for a moment, then said flatly, “Is that so? That’s good.”
With that, she turned and followed Moon and the maid out the door.
Not once glancing back.
Watching Noia’s retreating figure, Leon sighed.
“My clever daughter really is too smart. Hmm, just like me.”
Though it sounded a bit self-praising, Leon and Noia truly shared a similar intellect.
Their father-daughter keen insights were strikingly powerful.
Leon relaxed and closed the door, returning to the bedroom.
He moved a chair to sit by the bed, then thought for a second before lifting the covers to turn Roswiser onto her side.
Underneath her nightgown was completely empty; the normally agile “multi-use” tail was glaringly absent.
“Just as I thought, the tail’s gone.”
Muttering to himself, he flipped Roswiser back and tucked her in again.
“Though if the tail were still there, lying flat would be very uncomfortable, right?”
Leon attempted to visualize it; if his tail had a long protrusion, he probably could only sleep on his side.
He didn’t dwell too much on Roswiser’s tail situation, directing his attention to the nutritional supplements on the bedside table.
Earlier, when Anna came, Leon had asked her if he should prepare some supplements for Roswiser, similar to when he was in a coma.
Anna replied that it wasn’t necessary; dragons could go without food or drink during hibernation just fine. Their regular eating was just to store energy. But if Your Royal Highness was concerned, she could prepare some for Her Majesty.
“Going without food or drink is no big deal, huh… that’s pretty awesome.”
As he spoke, Leon picked up a bottle of supplements.
Since Roswiser didn’t need them, he’d take care of it.
He planned to flaunt all these nutritional goodies.
That way, when Roswiser woke up, she’d find a husband bursting with energy and ready to slay dragons.
Leon smiled and raised a glass in a toast to Roswiser.
“Cheers, my beloved wife.”
