Trapped in Paradise – Chapter 1

001. I’m the Protagonist

“Comrades”

Under the sparse moonlight, the bustling university town, alive by day, had fallen silent.

It was already 3 AM, and the dormitory windows flickered with faint light. Only those at the peak of their strength could still be battling in front of their computers at this hour.

Ning Chu was once again unable to sleep.

Resting his chin on one hand at his computer, he wanted to play games but couldn’t muster the energy; he wanted to sleep but his mind was in a chaotic mess. So, he aimlessly clicked around on random web pages, his eyes unfocused on the screen.

“Aren’t you sleeping yet?”

A hoarse deep voice came from above. The tall and beefy guy climbed down the ladder to the floor with a slight shake of the bed.

Ning Chu merely glanced at him, pursed his lips, and said nothing.

He had now been in this parallel world for over a week and still couldn’t accept it.

In front of his roommate, he seemed particularly withdrawn and introverted.

“School has been in session for two weeks, why are you always so quiet?” the roommate murmured softly as he walked to the balcony.

Ning Chu sighed softly and opened his computer’s hard drive, pulling up a novel document.

If there was any benefit to crossing over, it was probably this.

This was a world of novels, a little emperor’s narrative, and one that he had personally typed out before his crossover.

God knows he would end up in his own written novel! If he had known, he wouldn’t have written this little emperor nonsense!

After crossing over, the novel had also been transported to this world entirely, allowing Ning Chu to easily revisit the characters and events from his story.

“Wen Yang…”

The male protagonist, Wen Yang, was the same roommate who had just gone to the bathroom for a midnight pee.

In contrast to the courageous warrior in the story, this Wen Yang was a bit of a loser and didn’t even have a girlfriend; he was still a little virgin.

Ning Chu flipped through the novel quickly, matching the characters to their real-life counterparts.

“Second guy, Wang Jie.”

Wang Jie, the second guy in the dorm, had appeared in two chapters of the book, serving as a supporting role for Wen Yang. It took Ning Chu two whole days to find out where Wang Jie fit into the story.

“Third guy… is the villain.”

The third guy, Zhang Shaoqing, with his yellow hair, was a spoiled rich kid who did all sorts of evil things according to the story, violating rules of ethics and law like there was no tomorrow—he had even made the male protagonist’s life miserable!

Ning Chu instinctively glanced back at Zhang Shaoqing’s bunk.

Although the version in the book was up to no good, this roommate hadn’t shown any signs of being a villain. In fact, he was rather generous to the other roommates because of his wealth.

The protagonist and the villain were both quite different from the story, perhaps because the plot hadn’t officially started yet?

But the thing was, little emperor stories aren’t bound by timelines; each chapter is independent, with plots revolving around the male lead battling various girls.

Who knows when the story would actually kick off…

There were four people in the dorm; Wen Yang was the protagonist, Wang Jie was the side character, and the yellow-haired guy was the villain.

“So who the heck am I?”

Ning Chu furrowed his brow, quickly scrolling down through the document, trying to find out what part he played in the book.

He was now a member of the male lead Wen Yang’s dorm, and vaguely remembered writing something related to it.

“Where is it…”

“Ning Chu, go to bed early.” A teasing voice suddenly came from behind, lighthearted and playful. “Less of that stuff, it’s bad for your health.”

Ning Chu jumped, quickly closing his laptop in a panic. He turned around in fear, only to find Wen Yang standing behind him, who could have been there for who knows how long!

His face got hot as he realized the protagonist of his little emperor story had seen his work. Embarrassment flooded over him, painting his cheeks a bright shade of pink.

“You tiptoe like a cat.” He shrank his neck, pretending to act unbothered and grumbled, “I’m going to bed now.”

Fortunately, Wen Yang seemed to have no clue that the protagonist in the book was actually him.

“Take care of yourself.”

“……”

Ning Chu ignored Wen Yang and focused on his phone instead.

In the little uncle’s world, it was filled with handsome men and beautiful women, and Ning Chu was no exception.

He was pretty much a delicate boy, looking like a young child, though he was already a freshman. His face had yet to stabilize, and he stood only at a height of 1.6 meters, tiny like a little girl.

He could only hope to grow a bit taller in the next two years; being a grown man at 1.6 meters was just absurd.

Fortunately, Ning Chu’s s*xual orientation was fine, and the novel didn’t contain any weird male-on-male content. Otherwise, given his looks, he would be in quite a dangerous spot in this world.

“Dangerous?”

Suddenly, Ning Chu’s expression froze.

In a frenzy, he opened his computer again, hastily scrolling down to find a particular chapter in the novel.

The plot of that chapter went like this: when Wen Yang returned to the dorm and found it empty, he went to the bathroom on the balcony, only to open the door and discover a woman showering inside—this led to some intense fighting!

He had never considered that he might be a “comrade” type of supporting character!

“This woman… can’t be me, right?”

Ning Chu’s eyelid twitched, and his mouth went dry.

Continuing to scroll: the woman straightforwardly moved into Wen Yang’s dorm, but their lovey-dovey escapades still got discovered, and Zhang Shaoqing actively ruined the male lead’s chances… All the while, only Wang Jie seemed oblivious to the added female presence in the dorm.

“The plot of this novel is absurd. I mean, a woman living in a boys’ dorm dressed as a guy? There’s no way Wang Jie wouldn’t notice,” Ning Chu muttered, “I didn’t think that much when I was writing it!”

Now it was clear that this bug had been fixed.

What if that woman was actually staying in this dorm for a long time as a male?

“No way, it can’t really be me!”

Ning Chu felt goosebumps rise along his skin, and he hurriedly dashed to the bathroom to double-check his gender.

Yup! Definitely a guy!

“There’s no way this is so cliché; I just forgot to write in Wen Yang’s fourth roommate back then! And now that I’ve crossed over, I fill that gap.”

The tension in his mind eased up, and Ning Chu felt a bit more at peace.

“Let it be… just let it be…”

Ning Chu pulled the quilt over his head, hiding his entire face beneath it.

Since there were no plot points involving him, even if he was in this bizarre world, he could still go about living a good life.

After graduation, he planned to find a beautiful wife~ The average standard of girls in this world was way higher than in his previous life.

They even had catgirls to choose from!

While he fantasized about living a merry life with a catgirl as his wife, suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted.

He abruptly opened his eyes and muttered to himself skeptically: “In the little uncle’s world… my wife might actually cheat on me, huh?”
