33. Now Everyone in School Knows
13/56
Ning Chu was starting to suspect that Wen Yang might be a bit unwell.
It was alarmingly large—and had taken forever to come out. Shouldn’t he be seeing a doctor or at least get a little sensitive skin surgery?
But wait, he was the male lead! With that thought, everything suddenly made sense.
Leaning idly against the sink, she glanced at her reflection in the mirror.
Perhaps it was due to that enticing scent; her face always wore a gentle blush, and the rosy hue at the corners of her eyes had become even more pronounced. Those charming peach blossom eyes, now overflowing with allure, contrasted sharply with her slightly juvenile face, adding an irresistible charm.
At that moment, there was no trace of a man; in fact, any masculine quality had completely vanished, leaving just a cute, shy girl.
Ning Chu touched her face and, staring at her reflection, muttered, “If I saw this face, there’s no way I could bear to touch it.”
After all, she looked barely sixteen; it’d probably take at least three more years to grow into that.
Having waited outside for a while, an inexplicable panic made her anxious.
Everything was eerie and quiet—no footsteps could be heard, and Wen Yang’s figure was nowhere in sight. She felt as if she was alone in a vast, empty space.
Starting to feel uneasy, she called out, “Wen Yang?”
“I’m here.”
“Are you done?”
“…”
Ning Chu pressed her lips together and peeked into the bathroom again, asking, “Are you done yet? I’m hungry and want to grab something from the cafeteria.”
“Not yet…”
It was clear from his tone that he was feeling awkward.
She frowned and urged, “Hurry up! It’s been half an hour!”
“It’s not… I can’t help it!”
“What do you mean you can’t help it?” Ning Chu started pacing in the bathroom, threatening, “If you don’t hurry, I’ll just go by myself!”
Staying in the bathroom too long, that sweet scent was making her heat up like a furnace.
She had no choice but to step outside, waiting patiently in the corridor.
Just a few minutes later, Wen Yang stumbled out of the bathroom, looking a bit unsteady.
Ning Chu shot a glance down at his feet, frowned, and took a step back with a face full of disdain.
“I really can’t help it…” Wen Yang chuckled awkwardly, “I guess I was too nervous.”
After all, the girl he had a crush on was waiting for him outside the bathroom… it was a scene that was just weird in every way.
“Well, I’m not helping you then; just be careful walking.” Ning Chu jogged a bit further away, “Don’t tell anyone you know me; everyone will be staring at you, and I can’t afford that embarrassment.”
“Uh…”
After thinking for a moment, she casually took off her coat and handed it to Wen Yang, saying, “Tie it around your waist to cover up a bit.”
Without the coat covering him up, his well-defined physique became much more noticeable, filling Ning Chu with a sense of vulnerability as she instinctively hugged herself, shoulders curling inward.
When it was hot outside, she’d always used her textbook to create a little shield in class.
“Let’s head back to the dorm.”
“Aren’t you hungry?”
“I’ll just order takeout.”
Ning Chu walked in front but kept looking back to check on Wen Yang.
Strained ankles really weren’t meant to bear weight, and logically she should help him walk to avoid any further injury, but that tantalizing scent was just too tempting.
“Oy~ Why have you two been in there for so long?”
Just as they stepped out of the classroom, a little she-wolf pounced on them from who-knows-where.
“Didn’t see you before,” Ning Chu rolled her eyes at her. “What’s up now?”
“Bringing good news!”
“Hmm?”
Yan Xinya pulled out her phone, opened the school forum, and with an aunt-like smile, gleefully said, “Look! The whole school knows you’re monopolizing Wen Yang!”
“…”
Ning Chu sighed silently.
Indeed, whether Wen Yang had performed brilliantly in the top three or embarrassingly fell on his face, it wouldn’t stop him from becoming a school-wide sensation.
She was just supposed to hold back a bit in the competition and act it out, yet instead, everything had completely backfired, pulling her down with him.
“Someone even took a photo! Look at your expression~ Weren’t you about to cry from anxiety?”
“Some commenters are debating whether you’re a boy or a girl; there’s a couple of blessings, and others think you don’t deserve it… they’re demanding the school investigate because they think you’re a girl sneaking into the boys’ dorm!”
“Now, you’ve offended all the girls in school!”
Ning Chu couldn’t help but twitch the corners of her mouth. “It’s not that serious, is it?”
The she-wolf nodded with a teasing grin. “Of course! Not everyone is a love-struck fool.”
No, it was more accurate to say not everyone was a side character in a romance.
Aside from those side characters, the average girl would only be a fan of Wen Yang, lamenting his handsomeness, but wouldn’t aggressively attempt to steal him away.
Steal him away…
With that thought in mind, being mistaken for Wen Yang’s girlfriend didn’t seem like such a bad thing; at least the only interruptions he’d get would be from the storyline’s heartbreaker.
Ning Chu melodramatically rested her head on Yan Xinya’s shoulder. “If I post something to clarify, will anyone believe me?”
“No!”
The she-wolf’s nose twitched as she suddenly turned to look at Wen Yang, who was struggling to walk with the jacket tied around his waist.
She promptly flashed a mischievous grin. “Oh, did you two get up to something naughty?”
“No!”
“You two are quite bold~”
“Really, we didn’t!” Ning Chu’s face turned scarlet.
Yan Xinya laughed, tilting her head away. “Relax~ I didn’t smell anything, I’m just joking.”
“…”
Let’s skip the jokes, shall we?
Helping Wen Yang limp from the classroom back to the dorm took them nearly half an hour.
“Then I’ll head back too, see if Lily is awake,” Yan Xinya said.
“Okay.”
“Bye~”
Only then did Ning Chu turn back to Wen Yang, whose balance was shaky, and she stepped closer, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. “Let’s go; just support me a bit when we go upstairs.”
Even after walking for half an hour, she could still faintly catch that sweet scent, clearly Wen Yang still had a mind full of distractions.
But halfway through this, it was indeed quite uncomfortable…
Ning Chu had been a boy before, so she could just barely relate to what Wen Yang was going through.
When they reached the dormitory door, her breathing had become a bit labored, hastily trying to open the door but found it locked.
“Is it locked… didn’t they say Shao Qing and the others snuck back?”
Now they were left alone together.
Fortunately, Wen Yang had twisted his ankle, so even if he tried to pull a fast one, she could still make a run for it.
“I’ll text to check; I have the key in my pocket.” Wen Yang stood on one foot, propping himself against the wall by the door.
“Okay.”
Ning Chu wanted to get away from Wen Yang quickly, fearing the heat in her body might spiral out of control, and immediately reached for his pocket, but as soon as her hand went in, she pulled it back as if it had been burned.
“You better grab it yourself…”
She sprinted away to the side.
Moments later, Wen Yang opened the door and dashed straight into the bathroom.
