59. Preparations Before Wen Yang Leaves
For some reason, Wen Yang always felt that Ning Chu’s attitude towards him had changed a little.
It seemed… softer?
During class, he was supposed to be taking notes seriously, but his gaze kept wandering over to her side.
Ning Chu was still lazily lying on the desk, completely unenthusiastic about the class, occasionally yawning. But when she noticed his gaze, her face visibly flushed red. She couldn’t meet his eyes, looking shy and timid, like a little kitten just back home.
But soon, Ning Chu leaned over and asked quietly, “What days are you taking off?”
“Thursday and Friday, so I can go back for four days.”
“Four days!” She raised her voice, unable to contain herself.
“Hmm?”
“Nothing.”
Ning Chu lay back down on the desk, her heart racing at the thought of Wen Yang being gone for four whole days.
But Wen Yang was only going to visit his uncle who was having surgery; the reason was valid, and she couldn’t find any grounds to object.
She’d never been apart from Wen Yang for this long…
What if during these four days, he gets seduced by some bad woman and turns bad himself?
What if during these four days, she encounters some pervert and has no strength to fight back?
What if…
Her chaotic thoughts were suddenly interrupted as Yan Xinya’s words from the weekend resurfaced in her mind.
Stop lying to yourself~
It seemed she just simply didn’t want Wen Yang to be away from her… No need for so many excuses.
Ning Chu lowered her gaze, anxiously stealing a glance at Wen Yang.
Just then, her eyes met Wen Yang’s warm yet possessive gaze, making her flinch and immediately focus on her mobile phone.
“Who are you chatting with?” Wen Yang noticed the chat app on her screen.
“I don’t know.”
“Hmm?”
“Just a neurotic who suddenly added me as a friend and said he likes me.” Ning Chu paused, observing Wen Yang’s barely-contained expression. “I’m just messing with him a bit, chatting a little.”
She wanted to ask that neurotic what was so worthy about her, and couldn’t he just stop?
“Delete him.”
Though Wen Yang’s tone wasn’t harsh, Ning Chu obediently deleted the guy as if he were a homework assignment: “Oh.”
But she couldn’t hold back and scooted closer to Wen Yang, whispering, “How about I go with you?”
Typically, when a guy takes a girl to visit an older relative in the hospital, it probably means they are a couple. Even if that wasn’t the case, everyone would think so.
Afraid Wen Yang might misunderstand, she hurriedly explained, “If I go, I can take care of you while you visit your uncle. I can treat it as a little trip!”
Seeing Wen Yang remain silent, Ning Chu quietly mumbled, “Is that a no?”
“The problem is what excuse you’ll use to take off… That old witch is not easy to deal with.”
“True…”
Ning Chu pondered a reasonable excuse for taking off.
The new instructor was particularly strict about leave requests, which had made many students grumble. The nickname “old witch” was circulating privately.
Wen Yang could manage to get two days off mostly because of his protagonist aura and good looks.
She sighed in frustration. Although she didn’t want to seem too attached to Wen Yang, she lacked Lily’s excellent expression management skills.
In the end, she couldn’t resist looking at Wen Yang’s face: “Why don’t we just skip it?”
Wen Yang looked down at her face, which was filled with hope and a tinge of pleading, her eyes almost like a little abandoned kitten.
He nearly agreed on the spot.
But he shook his head and refused, “I can’t not go back for my uncle’s surgery…”
He hoped Ning Chu would understand his reasoning: “After my family left, if it weren’t for my uncle’s family, I probably would’ve dropped out and started working in middle school. Now, most of my living expenses come from my uncle.”
“…”
Seeing the light in Ning Chu’s eyes dim, her head hanging low, Wen Yang had no choice but to harden his heart and reassure her, “It’s okay, it’s just four days. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
“Oh.”
It felt almost like soothing a little girlfriend.
Wen Yang sighed helplessly, suddenly realizing that Ning Chu today seemed a bit more straightforward than usual.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, completely distracted from the class, his voice low as he tentatively asked, “Are you going to miss me?”
“Impossible!” Ning Chu jumped up, shaking her head vigorously, then dropping her gaze, quietly mumbling, “I’m just… worried that if I’m not around, some bad woman will trick you.”
She had said the same thing last time.
But this time, she hesitated, once again bringing up this excuse.
As Wen Yang prepared to leave, the genuine sense of loss and anxiety seemed to confirm that she had grown accustomed to relying on him, unable to be without him.
“Fine then.”
Wen Yang thought she was making progress, but it turned out she was still stubborn.
“Leaving on Thursday?”
“Taking a bus Wednesday night.” Wen Yang glanced at the time, “I’ll bring my things to class on Wednesday and leave right after.”
“Got it…”
Ning Chu gazed longingly at the teacher on the podium, resting her chin on her hand.
Looking at it from another angle, perhaps she could use Wen Yang’s departure to work on her independence!
Whether she accidentally liked Wen Yang or she relied on his protagonist aura because of the high-risk environment around Little Emperor Wen… as an adult, she shouldn’t be so dependent, needing someone to take care of her.
Besides, the Hypnosis Spray gave her a self-defense ability; there was no need to worry about perverts like before.
The only issue was, within those four days, she might accidentally fall for Wen Yang if he disrupted the plot at inopportune times.
Thinking this, Ning Chu turned to Yan Xinya: “Xinya, I remember you have an extra bed in your dorm?”
“Yeah, Ling Ling’s bed. She moved out with her boyfriend.”
“Then I…”
“Sure!”
Still living in the boys’ dorm, without Wen Yang covering for her, Ning Chu couldn’t trust Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie too much. After all, it took several rounds of tests before Wen Yang completely earned her trust.
Staying in the girls’ dorm would feel a lot safer, without worries about being exposed. Even if she accidentally fell for someone in front of Wolf Girl and Lily, one would be indifferent, and the other, being a succubus, couldn’t say anything to her.
“By the way, did they catch that pervert who stole underwear?”
Ning Chu suddenly remembered this and feared she’d be walking into a tiger’s den.
“Not yet,” Yan Xinya sighed. “I was going to check in with the security office; even if the footage is long, they should have reviewed it at least in fast-forward by now.”
“Yeah, I’ll go with you later.”
Hopefully, they could catch that pervert before Thursday.

Feeling under the weather, and later I have to get a nucleic acid test, not sure if there will be a bonus chapter.
