61. You Are the Protagonist
As the results of the sports meeting made Wen Yang even more famous, the active female side characters on campus started to take notice.
Luckily, the number of girls wasn’t as high as Ning Chu had imagined.
Although it was a male-oriented harem novel, each independent short story featured a new female character, and all the female characters related to Wen Yang were no more than a hundred, with roughly half of them being bold enough to chase after him.
Doing the math, she realized she had already had interactions with most of them.
What worried her was that the remaining few might all swarm together—one a day, and even Ning Chu would find it hard to handle.
Let’s not even talk about social d*ath; she couldn’t deal with them constantly draping themselves over her either!
“Why do you always have that frown on your face?”
One afternoon, just out of the bathroom, Ning Chu found herself cornered by Wen Yang.
She looked up at him doing laundry, averted her gaze, and mumbled, “Nothing, nothing…”
Ever since being interrogated by Yan Xinya, every time she saw Wen Yang, she blushed and felt guilty.
“Remember to eat breakfast when I’m not around,” he said while washing his clothes. “You might be a bit hypoglycemic; you fainted during military training because you didn’t eat.”
“Hmm.”
Ning Chu leaned against the railing, looking at her phone.
“I’ll bring back some local specialties from my hometown for you to try. How does that sound?”
“Why don’t you just come to the bus station to send me off?”
She paused, pouted, and said, “It’s just four days; what’s there to send off? What a waste of my time.”
Who knows who was making a big fuss over something in class?
Wen Yang sensed Ning Chu’s growing dependency on him; as time passed, it seemed to deepen.
But last week’s confession had failed…
Clearly, there was something that Ning Chu was still dissatisfied with—something not good enough about him.
“I need to go tidy up my bed in Xinya’s dorm and bring some stuff over.”
“Sure.”
“Wait a second! I’m shocked!”
Zhang Shaoqing suddenly burst through the door, his expression a mix of shock and disbelief as he looked at Ning Chu. “You’re actually going to live in the girls’ dormitory?!”
“Yeah, just for four days. What’s the big deal?”
“No way~ That’s too perverted!”
“……”
Ning Chu initially didn’t think much of it but soon realized that in Zhang Shaoqing’s eyes, she was still just a proper man.
Her face turned an unnatural shade of red, and she struggled to come up with an appropriate excuse.
“Well, if you’re pretty, it’s fine living in the girls’ dorm, nobody would bat an eye,” Zhang Shaoqing said, clucking in fascination. “Good thing we don’t have a bathhouse here; otherwise, you’d definitely be a peeping Tom in the girls’ bath!”
You perverted villain, how dare you call me out!
“Wait, how would that Wolf Girl let you stay there?”
“That’s because I’m a good person; they trust me.”
“Give me a break. What kind of virtue does a guy have? Stop pretending.” Zhang Shaoqing was full of envy. “Only Wolf Girl is dumb enough to think of you as a buddy?”
He eagerly walked out from the room, sidling up to Ning Chu with a lewd grin as he hooked an arm around her shoulder. “Hey, remember to share whatever you see with your bro!”
Ning Chu stiffened and instinctively raised her hand to shake off Zhang Shaoqing’s arm, but didn’t dare to overreact.
Fortunately, Wen Yang put down the half-washed clothes and stepped over, pulling Zhang Shaoqing away by the neck. “Come on, stop messing around. Want some milk tea or not?”
Ning Chu quickly took small steps back, feeling relieved.
“You still have money for milk tea?”
It was the first time Zhang Shaoqing saw Wen Yang being so generous.
“Just treating myself a bit; get me the cheapest one.”
He had no objections and quickly began to order milk tea, but still asked Ning Chu, “Wait, why are you suddenly moving into the girls’ dorm?”
At this moment, Ning Chu had already concocted a suitable excuse: “Uh… Xinya said a pervert stole her underwear, and it kept her up all night.”
She was three parts truth, seven parts lie, proclaiming vigorously, “As a big man, I can’t just stand by and watch! I need to provide Lily with some safety! And catch that pervert!”
“That Wolf Girl won’t just one-punch you?”
Zhang Shaoqing half-heartedly accepted her reasoning, exclaiming, “Being pretty is great~ Even if you’re a lewd guy at heart, girls won’t think you’re a problem.”
“Your sleaziness has nothing to do with me!”
“Just don’t cause any fatalities~”
“Get lost!”
She really needed this function…
Ning Chu sighed heavily; even when she was still a man, her p*nis was just for show.
She walked straight into the dorm, glancing at the ever-absorbed Wang Jie, who was playing on his computer, completely unconcerned with the world.
This honest guy was much easier to deal with—he didn’t cause trouble or make any sarcastic remarks about her.
Moving into the girls’ dorm didn’t require much preparation; her luggage was already packed full of clothes, daily necessities, cash, ID card… everything she could think of was in there, so she wouldn’t scramble in the last minute if she needed to run.
That had been her plan before… Now, before solving her “feelings” issue, she dared only to stay close to Wen Yang.
Even if one day she was really exposed by Wen Yang, it would still be better than being the protagonist of a chaotic brawl.
“Mainly the bedding…”
Ning Chu muttered to herself as she dug deep into the wardrobe for a thick winter quilt.
“And Wen Yang’s clothes…”
In her moments of anxiety, his clothes provided her with enough security.
Besides, that halo of the protagonist really seemed to be quite effective!
So, Ning Chu unhesitatingly walked to Wen Yang’s wardrobe, opened it, and scanned the clothes inside.
Hmm, let’s take a shirt, a short sleeve, and a coat…
“What are you doing in my wardrobe?” Wen Yang walked in after hanging up his laundry, only to find Ning Chu inspecting his clothes.
“Your clothes fit comfortably; I’m borrowing a couple as pajamas.”
Wen Yang scratched his head in confusion.
Ning Chu seemed particularly fond of his clothes and always liked wearing his outerwear.
“We have such a good relationship; what’s wrong with borrowing a couple of pieces?” Ning Chu said confidently.
“It’s fine; go ahead.”
Wen Yang didn’t mind, but Zhang Shaoqing grimaced and muttered, “So gay!”
Ignoring the fool, Ning Chu stuffed a few clothes into her suitcase, grabbed the winter quilt, and staggered back up to head out.
“Need a hand?”
“Of course!”
With the heavy quilt pressed into Wen Yang’s hands, Ning Chu pushed the door open with her luggage.
Now all that was left was that underwear-snatching pervert.
This wasn’t too troublesome, after all, the protagonist was right behind her.
Ning Chu turned to Wen Yang trailing behind her. “Wait; don’t go yet; I need your help with something.”
“What is it?”
“Catch the underwear thief!”
Wen Yang was utterly confused. “Me? But we haven’t even found them yet!”
“Exactly; you can check the scene; maybe you’ll notice something!”
“Do you think I’m a detective?”
Yet Ning Chu remained confident in him: “You’re the protagonist, after all!”
“Protagonist?”
