231. Health Check
“Don’t forget to mark me present.”
During the brief break after the first class on Thursday afternoon, Ning Chu poked Wen Yang in the side and whispered.
“Don’t worry.”
She felt a bit nervous. In her past life, she often skipped classes in college, but this was her first time here.
And she had to report her absence to the English teacher!
Ning Chu looked up at the English teacher who had just walked into the classroom, elegantly dressed in a fitted skirt and black stockings.
For some reason, while other teachers might look like they fell from a tree, English teachers were mostly mature and charming women in their thirties or forties.
Of course, in this world, most teachers were above average in looks—it’s the Little Emperor Wen, after all.
But occasionally, there were also middle-aged men who were bald and potbellied, straight out of an adult animation.
It was like two extremes.
Ning Chu lowered her head and tugged on Yan Xinya’s arm. “Let’s go.”
“Ah~”
With a guilty conscience, she rose and slipped out of the classroom with Yan Xinya through the back door, tiptoeing and covering her ears as if she were a thief, terrified of being spotted by the teacher.
Wen Yang turned around to see Ning Chu and Yan Xinya leaving and glanced at Lily, only to find her expressionless as she got up, hugged her textbooks to her chest, and walked to the back of the classroom to sit alone in the corner.
This girl was always so aloof and withdrawn, like an Ice Mountain Goddess, making her quite popular in class.
“Where did Ning Chu go?”
Zhang Shaoqing finally looked up to ask.
Recently, Wen Yang had clearly sensed that Zhang Shaoqing was distancing himself from Ning Chu. It was hard to catch this guy teasing her these days.
This made Wen Yang’s heart feel lighter; he wouldn’t have to worry about Zhang Shaoqing trying to steal his treasure anymore.
“She went for a health check.”
“Health check?”
Hearing the class bell ring, Wen Yang just acknowledged it with a sound, not providing any further explanation.
The English teacher was quite strict. She initially required students to submit their mobile phones before class, but over time, that rule faded away.
Unlike some teachers who let students roam free—only calling attendance twice a semester—her class required attendance three times to prevent anyone from sneaking off during lessons.
“Wen Yang.”
“Present.”
“Ning Chu.”
“Present!”
The English teacher looked over at Wen Yang and called again, “Ning Chu.”
“……”
Wen Yang broke into a bit of cold sweat as the teacher’s gaze bore down on him. He had no choice but to grit his teeth and call out again, “Present.”
“Some students think I can’t keep track of who’s who.”
The English teacher noted Ning Chu’s absence with a glint in her eye. “Next time someone else marks her, both will be considered absent.”
While she might not remember every student’s name, a pretty little crossdresser and a boy whose looks could rival the school hunk were too memorable; after months, she had certainly cemented those images in her mind.
“Oh no~” Zhang Shaoqing chimed in gleefully from the side.
Wen Yang quickly composed himself. “No worries, I’ll ask the instructor for a sick note for Ning Chu after class.”
“That old witch can really give you a note?”
“I’m the class leader.”
“Sounds like a shady deal to me~”
Ning Chu was still unaware that she had been marked absent and was nervously standing in line with Yan Xinya, waiting for her bl**d draw.
“Don’t panic. Even if you get caught, it’s fine. The school never said you can’t do health checks with other classes~”
Yan Xinya whispered to comfort her as she sensed her tension.
“I’m… afraid of needles.”
“At least Wen Yang’s got a good physique~”
Ning Chu’s face turned beet red, and she shot a disgruntled glare at Wolf Girl. “Don’t be influenced by Lily!”
“It’s all Lily’s fault for leading me astray~”
As the line moved forward inch by inch, she tiptoed, peering ahead.
Who knew how much bl**d they would draw?
Lost in thought, she suddenly froze, staring at the staff member who was maintaining order in line.
That glaring red dress…
“Line up, line up! No cutting!”
“Hey, handsome, can we exchange WeChat?”
“Hey, you! No cutting in line!”
Ning Chu was surrounded by question marks. She couldn’t understand this ghost at all.
Has this school staff member really gotten addicted to her job? Making such a bold appearance and flirting with handsome guys, didn’t she fear a ghostbuster coming after her?
Then again, if she could handle it, this flirty ghost might actually be quite happy…
Yan Xinya followed her gaze. “Isn’t that An An?”
“You know her?”
“Yeah, I taught her the dormitory electricity fees a couple of times when I ran into her at the service center.” Wolf Girl complained, “An An is even flirtier than a succubus; she would d*e without a man.”
“……”
“But she’s really nice! Plus, she said she wants to be an instructor in two years!”
This ghost must have fully infiltrated the school.
Ning Chu didn’t give much thought to the ghost in the novel, but hearing Wolf Girl’s complaints made her suspect that the ghost really might d*e without a man.
Ghosts feeding off men’s energy to survive makes perfect sense, right?
It’s also pretty reasonable that too much energy from a ghostbuster could send them spiraling.
“You’re up.”
Before she knew it, Ning Chu was already at the bl**d draw station. Her face turned pale. Trembling, she sat down, turning her head to avoid looking at the needle while stretching out her arm on the table.
“Take off your coat and roll up your sleeve.”
“Oh…”
She handed her coat to Yan Xinya behind her, took a deep breath, and gripped her thigh tightly under the table.
“Relax.”
The doctor tied a tourniquet around her right arm, glanced up at her pursed lips and downcast eyes—a picture of misery—and then poker-faced, jabbed the needle in.
Ning Chu jolted, but Yan Xinya held her shoulder firmly.
“All done.”
Feeling as if she’d been set free, she jumped up in a panic, grabbing her coat without a second thought and hurriedly rushed to the side of the bl**d draw line.
After a brief wait, Yan Xinya cheerfully approached and handed her the coat. “I thought you would scream.”
“How could I? I just get a bit faint at the sight of needles.”
“And~ what’s that behind you?”
“Huh?”
As Ning Chu was slipping on her coat, she looked up to see Wolf Girl darting behind her and gripping her tailbone.
Her body trembled, and her legs went weak. If Yan Xinya hadn’t been ready to support her, she would have plopped right down on the ground.
“Sure enough! You have a tail too! I was wondering what was poking out from behind you!”
Ning Chu took a breath and retaliated by grabbing Wolf Girl’s tail.
But while Wolf Girl also quivered a bit, her face turned rosy, she didn’t react as strongly as Ning Chu.
“I’m not a succubus~”
So, Ning Chu yanked a few tail hairs out.
“Hey! My fur! I’ll go bald!”
“Next time I’ll make a brush out of your fur!”
“That’s weasel hair, not related to me.”
She suddenly realized she was exposing her lack of knowledge and quickly changed the subject, “Let’s go, we need to get through the annoying internal medicine check first!”
