Trapped in Paradise – Chapter 25

025. Isn’t this just making it difficult for people?!

“Ning Chu, do you want to apply for a school subsidy? The poverty subsidy.”

Later on, Wen Yang came up behind Ning Chu, resting his hands on the back of his chair, leaning over to peek at his computer screen while asking, “If you need it, you have to fill out an application. It has to be submitted this weekend.”

Wen Yang had already become the class leader and occasionally had to complete tasks assigned by the higher-ups.

Ning Chu paused the video, turned to look back at him, and asked, “What about you?”

“My family isn’t poor enough for that, so never mind,” Wen Yang shook his head. “Besides, the school has already reduced my tuition, taking a subsidy would feel wrong.”

You might as well take the subsidy; I’m just worried you’ll run out of money and go working part-time, messing around outside.

Ning Chu silently scoffed, shaking his head in refusal.

“Alright then.”

“No, you haven’t asked me yet.” Zhang Shaoqing boisterously squeezed in, grinning, “Do you think I can apply for a subsidy?”

Both of them turned back, squinting their eyes, giving Zhang Shaoqing a gaze like he was worthless trash, and they both categorically denied, “No!”

With a face full of disdain, Ning Chu rolled his eyes, “You rich second-generation can have some shame! This subsidy is for students who can barely afford meals, and you? Eating three to four meals a day, easily spending over a hundred bucks.”

Wen Yang chimed in in agreement, “Your shoes could cover a year’s worth of subsidy.”

“I was just joking!” Zhang Shaoqing maintained his grin.

God knows if he was really joking.

Even though they had gradually gotten familiar with each other, Ning Chu still had remnants of his villain image from the novel in his heart.

He hadn’t even turned dark yet, and he was already exuding those traits that make even dogs dislike him.

“Hey! Where are you going?” Seeing Wen Yang walk towards the door, Ning Chu quickly stood up, bouncing along behind him, “Perfect timing, I have something to do too!”

“Just checking on the other dorms and grabbing a bite at the cafeteria.”

“Great! I’m hungry too!”

Wen Yang paused for a moment, glanced back at Ning Chu, who was practically a little tail behind him, before saying nothing and heading straight outside.

After visiting a few nearby dorms, the two of them left the dorm area, passing the big square, and reached the nearest cafeteria.

The cafeteria was a three-story building; the first floor had various fast food options and a small supermarket, while the second and third floors had a range of dining shops. The food there was decent enough, and compared to takeout, it was quite economical.

“I saw on the forum that someone found a bug in the cafeteria yesterday.” Wen Yang grabbed a tray and casually shared the news with Ning Chu, adding, “Half a worm.”

“Can we not discuss this while eating…?”

Ning Chu’s face darkened, his appetite, which had been awakened by the aroma of food, quickly vanished.

“You just said you had something to do?”

“Yeah, I saw a little cat earlier, and I’m planning to buy some stuff to feed it after we eat.” Talking about this made his mood instantly soar, excitedly describing the little black cat, “It was so cute! I thought about bringing it back to the dorm, but I was worried you guys would dislike cats!”

“I’m indifferent to it.”

“Did you know? That cat was totally just trying to scam me! I barely touched it twice, and it just flopped down on my shoe, refusing to get up no matter what. In the end, I had to bribe it with a piece of sausage to leave me alone.”

Ning Chu finished ordering his dinner and picked up his tray, taking little quick steps to keep up with Wen Yang.

That guy was tall and had long legs; one stride of his was like two of Ning Chu’s, making it impossible for him to keep pace without speeding up.

Finally, sitting across from Wen Yang, he opened his disposable chopsticks, only to hear Wen Yang suddenly ask, “Why do I feel like you just want to follow me everywhere, like Shao Qing said…?”

Ning Chu’s hand paused, a bit flustered but pretending to be calm as he ate, “Huh? No way!”

“It’s as if you’re not at ease unless I’m not out alone.”

“No way?”

Wen Yang wasn’t moving his chopsticks either, his gaze scrutinizing Ning Chu.

Over the past week, he had distinctly felt Ning Chu seeming particularly concerned about him, almost like… a girlfriend with strong possessiveness, or a mother who was perpetually worried about her child.

Just like Zhang Shaoqing said, it was as if Ning Chu was secretly crushing on him.

A girlfriend…

Although Ning Chu’s face was quite cute, he lacked anything else to be considered attractive compared to the girls chasing after him. Most importantly, he was a man!

“I don’t like men,” Wen Yang suddenly said earnestly.

Ning Chu nearly spat his food out.

His eyes widened in shock as he looked up at Wen Yang, “You think so too? It’s not like that for me!”

Although he had anticipated being misunderstood, being outed as a gay guy was a bit much for him.

He scrambled to clarify his stance, and with excitement, his face turned a deep shade of red as he blurted out, “I like girls! Preferably ones with ample chests, long legs, and pretty faces…”

“And if it’s a catgirl, even better!”

At this rate, before the plot could even turn him into a woman, he’d probably end up in proctology first!

What the hell, liking men?!

But Wen Yang looked unconvinced, “Then why do you always try to stop me from going on dates?”

“Wasn’t I doing it for your own good? I was just giving you advice!”

“First time, you chose gaming over a date. Second time at a bar, you were already there but ran back because you got scared! You can’t blame that on me!”

Uh~ Ning Chu had a valid point.

Wen Yang started doubting if he was just overconfident because of too many girls chasing him.

Feeling embarrassed after such a fierce rebuttal, he scratched his head a bit awkwardly, “Guess I overthought it.”

Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Ning Chu’s explanation didn’t quite add up, especially with that flushed face of his.

“Of course, you were just overthinking.”

Sure enough, after repeatedly suggesting that Wen Yang shouldn’t go out on dates, this guy began to doubt his own wild assumptions.

The real issue lay with those shameless girls!

Once he got back, he was going to make a list of all the girls in the book who had close relationships with Wen Yang, so he wouldn’t be caught off-guard later.

The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Wen Yang took a few bites of food before deciding to share some gossip he knew, “I heard there’s a ghost haunting the teaching building; the school is planning to hire someone for an exorcism.”

“Hunting ghosts?”

Ning Chu’s trains of thought were abruptly derailed by Wen Yang’s words.

“Do you know how exorcism works?”

“Huh? Isn’t that superstitious nonsense, like some spirit medium stuff?”

Well, it should be superstitious nonsense. But in the world of Little Emperor Wen, exorcism probably meant getting the ghost to submit until they were satisfied…

He had written such chapters before, and the male lead was Wen Yang.

Don’t ask why the school would hire Wen Yang for an exorcism; the answer is simply that Little Emperor Wen lacks logic.

“The school leaders heard that my uncle used to be an exorcist and asked me to check it out… but the problem is, I don’t know anything, sigh.”

Wen Yang rubbed his temples in frustration.

Wow, so that’s how it is! Turns out your uncle isn’t a proper person either!

“Maybe you shouldn’t go?”

“I can’t refuse something that the school leaders specifically asked for,” Wen Yang said with a helpless smile. “Besides, if it’s just superstition, if there is a ghost, I can always ask my uncle for advice later, maybe make a quick buck.”

Ning Chu’s expression darkened.

Making a virgin use his “essence” to exorcise ghosts? Isn’t that just cruel?!
