86. Good News
“How’s it going?!”
After the first class in the afternoon, Ning Chu spotted her mother and Wen Yang standing in the hallway.
She trotted out of the classroom and excitedly ran up to her mother, “Did it go smoothly?”
“The application has been submitted, now we just wait,” her mother said with a smile. “The instructor said they will arrange a girls’ dormitory for you next semester, so you won’t have to rent an apartment anymore.”
“This…”
It was clearly good news, but Ning Chu’s smile subtly faltered.
She had previously been reluctant to live off-campus due to the high costs and inconvenient class schedules, but now after experiencing the freedom and indulgence of living outside, she felt that living off-campus was actually quite nice.
A bit shyly, she asked her mother, “Mom, can I just… live off-campus all the time in the future?”
“Huh?”
Ning Chu quickly thought up two excuses and stated confidently, “I’m not used to being around girls! There could be conflicts!”
After all, her son had just turned into her daughter a few months ago; living in a girls’ dormitory could lead to conflicts over worldviews and habits… But despite being slow to adapt in this aspect, she was extremely proactive about getting a boyfriend~
“You have to interact more with other girls,” her mother replied, shaking her head helplessly. “You can’t just hang out with those guys forever, right?”
Whether a pure friendship can exist between boys and girls is still debatable, especially between a guy and a succubus.
“I’ve been talking way less with my old roommates lately…”
Just as Ning Chu said this, she suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist as Yan Xinya popped up from behind her like a mischievous ghost.
“Mom, this is my friend, Yan Xinya.”
“Hello, Auntie~ Ning Chu, wanna go to the bathroom together?”
“Uh…”
Just a moment ago, she’d said she wasn’t used to being around girls.
“What’s your mom doing here?” Wolf Girl whispered in her ear, “Your mom is so pretty~ She doesn’t look a day over thirty! Is she a succubus too?”
“Who knows! You go to the bathroom yourself; I have things to do.”
“Woo!”
Yan Xinya wagged her big tail and dashed off to the bathroom at the end of the hallway.
“Isn’t this going well?” her mother said, covering her mouth with a restrained smile. “You just don’t want to be apart from your little boyfriend, do you?”
“……”
Ning Chu instinctively glanced at Wen Yang and noticed they both looked a little awkward.
“I’m not paying for your dating!”
“He is!” She immediately pointed at Wen Yang.
“Just don’t come crying to me about being broke later~” her mother laughed as she gently pulled Ning Chu aside.
After Wen Yang took a couple of steps, he scratched his head, realizing they didn’t want him to overhear, and he sighed a bit disappointedly before heading back into the classroom.
Once she noticed Wen Yang had left, her mother finally stopped walking, looked in the direction of the classroom, and asked, “He doesn’t get much allowance, does he?”
“Uh… his pure living expenses are about three or four hundred, I guess?”
“Wow, you’re using your living expenses to keep a guy?” Her mother playfully tugged at Ning Chu’s ear.
Although she didn’t pull hard, Ning Chu instinctively tensed up and panicked, “No! He works part-time on the weekends and writes online, making a decent amount! It’s enough for him!”
Though she indeed used her family’s living expenses to support a guy…
But now that the novel was stabilizing at a thousand a month, what was wrong with using her own money to support a guy!
Her mother sighed helplessly, saying with a hint of melancholy, “Don’t focus too much on one guy. What’s the point of being handsome? Once he becomes successful and gets bored, he might just leave you, and then you’ll be crying to me.”
Ning Chu felt as though she was listening to her mother’s own experiences.
“Mom, did you cry to Grandma like this back in the day?”
“It hurts! It hurts! My ear is going to tear apart!”
She jumped up and covered her ear, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”
“That scoundrel! Let’s not mention him!”
“Wen Yang is different from him…”
Her mother looked at her stubborn daughter and couldn’t help but think how much she resembled her younger self.
Their family used to be considered one of the wealthiest in the area, like a big shot’s daughter. But then she fell for a poor country boy, insisting on being together despite everyone’s opposition… That guy was determined, and with the help of her family, he made some money and started a small business.
And then he just disappeared, not a word since…
“Mom, what if he suddenly comes back?”
“He’s probably dead by now,” her mother said, pursing her lips. “I should head back; otherwise, I won’t make it in time to pick up Little Cat from class.”
“When will you tell me about your past?”
“Is gossiping with you now?”
As her mother shot her a glare, Ning Chu immediately wilted. “If you’re not going to say, then fine… When are you going to take me to meet Uncle?”
Unexpectedly, her mother’s face flushed with embarrassment, showing a demeanor like that of a shy girl.
With annoyance, she shot Ning Chu a look, “During the New Year!”
“I’m off then.”
“Bye~”
Who knows what her mother’s boyfriend looks like~
Ning Chu felt a bit mixed up, unsure about what kind of man he was, or how easy he would be to get along with.
She rubbed at her ear, still red from being tugged, gritting her teeth, “She really has a heavy hand~ She looks weak, but wow.”
“Hiss~ Why does my ear feel a bit pointier than before?”
Suddenly realizing a blind spot, she hesitantly touched her own ear.
“Did my mom stretch it?”
The class bell rang, and she didn’t have time to think more, hurriedly rushing back into the classroom.
“Auntie left?”
Just as she sat down, Wen Yang eagerly asked.
“Yeah, she had to rush back to pick up Black Bean from school.”
“Good, she’s gone…”
“Why are you so scared of my mom?” Ning Chu mumbled, turning to look at Lily, who was curiously gazing at her with an icy profile, “Lily, pull your hair back.”
Lily paused, confused, but then swept aside her long hair that covered her ears.
“You have pointy ears!”
Her ears were small and rosy, resembling an elf’s sharp ears.
But they weren’t as exaggerated as an elf’s; they had a slightly rounded curve, making them even cuter.
Yan Xinya rested her chin on her hands, “Aren’t you the same?”
“I just noticed that…”
Ning Chu mumbled, realizing some subtle changes were happening with her body during her development that she hadn’t noticed. As the one experiencing it, it was hard for her to be aware.
Honestly, she understood her body even less than Wen Yang did; at least he could touch and feel every detail every few days.
While she always used a loofah in the shower, bathing every day, she just hurried through it.
“Wen Yang!”
“I thought you already knew.”
Wen Yang asked, puzzled, “What’s wrong with them? They look cute, right?”
They do look cute…
Ning Chu instinctively reached up to touch her head.
Thank goodness, still no signs of growing a steering wheel!
