029. Good Guys
As an instructor, it’s perfectly normal to stroll around the dorm building.
But Ning Chu suspected this guy was just using it as an excuse to scout the girls’ dorm for prey.
“If anything in the dorm breaks, just go find the dorm supervisor for a repair order. Generally, somebody will come fix it within a week.”
“If you have any problems, whether in life or mentally, feel free to ask me. Just DM me in the group.”
Han Jingye always wore a gentle smile, and his soft tone made his face seem harmless. When he checked the dorm’s cleanliness, he looked less like a teacher and more like a friendly neighbor dropping by for tea.
He casually walked around the dorm, then looked up at the beds and asked with a grin, “Whose bed is this? Look at how this person knows to make their bed—now look at you all.”
The three dorm residents suddenly shifted their gazes towards Ning Chu.
Ning Chu felt her mind blank and glanced around in confusion. “Uh? I just made my bed this morning because I had nothing else to do…”
She really didn’t want to get involved with this instructor.
It would be best if he forgot her name completely and didn’t remember it next time they met.
“Ning Chu, right? The one who fainted during military training last Monday?”
A group of students outside the dorm burst into laughter.
“…”
“What are you laughing at?” Han Jingye turned and glared at the students by the door before kindly nodding back at Ning Chu. “That’s good. I’ll go check the next dorm. You all tidy up a bit, remember to eat breakfast, and don’t be late for military training.”
Ning Chu answered expressionlessly.
She hated people like Han Jingye, who seemed harmless on the outside but were really quite sleazy inside—total hypocrites.
Then, she looked at Zhang Shaoqing, who was upfront and honest. Even before turning into a villain, he was already disliked by everyone.
Perhaps it was her slightly cool and indifferent attitude that made Han Jingye furrow his brows. He scrutinized her from head to toe.
He was a very clear-cut boy; his military uniform top tucked neatly into his pants made him look sharp, but he seemed very skinny, his waist slender like a willow branch.
Having no clue where he’d made such a bad impression, he moved on without any further thought. Han Jingye kept his gentle, approachable smile and walked to the next dorm. As soon as he opened the door, he saw a student making egg tarts in the oven… his smile practically broke.
“Whose electric stove is this? And a microwave oven too?! Are you treating this dorm like a kitchen?!”
Good grief, so the dorm next door really knew how to live, huh?
Through the wall, Ning Chu clearly heard the instructor’s angry shout.
“Ning Chu, let’s go, it’s time for breakfast in the cafeteria.”
“Coming, coming!” Ning Chu quickly followed Wen Yang out the door, her face filled with envy. “The next dorm is too impressive! Cooking for themselves, and it’s cheaper than the cafeteria!”
“Hard to say. Once they get comfortable, they’ll probably start cooking for ten people.”
“True.”
As she chatted about the next dorm with Wen Yang, flashes of Han Jingye’s smiling face kept popping into her head.
This instructor seemed rather responsible.
He didn’t get mad about the dorm’s cleanliness but gently reminded them, while he blew up over safety issues in the next dorm.
Before, she had only seen his sunny, gentle side. With her first impression already made, she found it insufferably hypocritical. But now, seeing him genuinely furious about safety gave him a more three-dimensional character.
Could it be that the current instructor was actually a good guy?
Not my problem!
It’s already a headache trying to keep the villains and main characters from going astray—now a good instructor? I can’t split myself in half to deal with that!
Better stick to the original strategy: have Wen Yang keep a close eye on him. If he gathers any incriminating evidence, he’ll be on the offensive first!
If all goes well, the instructor gets thrown in jail, and no female students get hurt.
When they reached the cafeteria, Ning Chu ran to the convenience store to grab a bottle of ice-cold cola and sat next to Wen Yang.
“Aren’t you eating?”
“I had breakfast in the dorm, had bread and milk I bought last night.”
He tilted his head back, took a sip of coke, and let out a satisfying burp. Then he turned to Wen Yang, pondering how to subtly bring up Han Jingye.
“The instructor seems pretty popular in class, right?” Ning Chu casually mentioned.
“Eh, it’s okay?” Wen Yang only bought two big buns and a bottle of water, making his breakfast appear rather meager compared to others, but he didn’t mind. “After a few days of interaction, he seems really nice, but you don’t seem to like him?”
Even though she didn’t like him, she seemed particularly concerned about Han Jingye?
“Did he offend you before?”
Ning Chu stammered, unsure how to explain.
Though she had thought about telling Wen Yang about Han Jingye’s plot in the book to get some help, she knew he wasn’t a fool—how could he possibly believe her based on just her word?
Besides, Han Jingye seemed pretty normal now…
“Well, not really. It’s just that his smile seems a bit fake, and it kind of puts me off,” Ning Chu hesitated. “He left me with a pretty bad first impression.”
Wen Yang nodded, continuing to eat while saying, “I think he’s quite thoughtful. He knows the family situations of the students in class.”
“Knows their situation?”
“Yeah, the school’s subsidy applications are for economically disadvantaged students. He sent a few back that were just trying to cheat the system.”
Ning Chu was increasingly baffled.
Could it be that the instructor was truly a good person?
Seeing her deep in thought, Wen Yang gently advised, “Don’t judge people by first impressions. I mean, look at Shaoqing—with his flashy blond hair and careless attitude, you wouldn’t guess he’s actually a goofball.”
“He’s just a goofball…”
Ning Chu yawned, not thinking too much about it, and decided to put the instructor on her long-term observation list.
Glancing at the time, it was almost eight o’clock.
“Time for military training.”
Now that was a real headache!
She slumped her upper body onto the dining table, utterly defeated. The thought of the morning’s laps and half an hour of physical training made her legs tremble.
“I wish I could take a day off and just lounge in the dorm with the AC on~”
Wen Yang finished his breakfast and stood up first, looking down at the puddle that was now Ning Chu. “Just get through this week and it’ll be over. Hang in there.”
“The weather forecast said it would rain today; why do we have to do military training anyway~”
Ning Chu trailed behind Wen Yang, feeling depressed. Military training always left her exhausted, and by evening she could only think about resting and sleeping, unable to do anything else.
“Looking at the sky, it seems like it might rain. Just check the horizon.”
Hearing this, she suddenly perked up, following Wen Yang’s gaze to the distant skyline.
That thick patch of clouds made her heart race with excitement.
“Look at that! It’s bound to be a downpour! There’s no way we’ll do military training!”
