034. Cat
The rain was pouring heavily, and Ning Chu’s mood felt as heavy as the dark clouds overhead.
Only now did he realize that even if he didn’t turn into a girl, he was still in danger.
Not that being supported by a rich woman was necessarily bad—given his weak stomach, he thought it might be tastier to “eat soft rice.” But from the perspective of the perverse Little Emperor Wen, with his small frame, he might not be able to handle the antics of the wealthy women around here.
Besides, though the book didn’t have any male-on-male scenes, what about the background characters? God knows if any man would like a boy like him!
“Not happy?” Wen Yang laughed, relishing Ning Chu’s plight. “Next time you go on a date with the Boss Lady, I’ll be your wingman.”
He had already worked out his terms: as long as Ning Chu didn’t disturb his dates with the girls anymore…
“No need! I’m not interested in rich women.”
Wen Yang paused for a moment, struggling to understand Ning Chu’s thoughts. “But the Boss Lady is rich, gentle, and pretty, with a great figure. The only downside is she’s a few years older than you, right?”
“Hard-headed; I can’t ‘eat soft rice’!” Ning Chu declared, his voice filled with righteous indignation. “Besides, I’m a man! I should at least be able to support myself—relying on others isn’t a skill!”
“……”
Wen Yang found himself utterly speechless, unable to counter such a viewpoint.
The two walked under an umbrella, entering the school gate side by side.
On a day like this, the streets were devoid of students, glimpses of delivery drivers clad in raincoats hurried past, and the sound of rain pattered around them.
Even with the umbrella, Ning Chu’s shoes and pants were already soaked, thankfully, he was wearing slippers.
“I’m going to take a nap when I get back—I’m so sleepy.” He couldn’t help yawning, then turned to Wen Yang and asked, “What about you? Are you going back to play games or…?”
“What else can we do in this rain besides playing games or sleeping?” Wen Yang shook his head helplessly.
For others, that could be true, but not necessarily for you.
Ning Chu thought to himself as his gaze was drawn to a little ball of black fluff shivering at the entrance of the cafeteria.
That was…
He instinctively quickened his pace, hurrying under the shelter of the cafeteria roof, crouching down to examine the curled-up little kitten.
“A stray cat?” Wen Yang followed, curiously asking, “It doesn’t look too good… probably caught a cold from the rain?”
“Yeah, really shivering.”
Though the little black kitten was soaked through, Ning Chu recognized it as the one he had fed before.
He hesitated, placed his hands on his knees, and looked up at Wen Yang, his eyes inadvertently filled with hope and pleading.
“Want to take it home?”
“Yeah.”
Wen Yang frowned discreetly, “Keeping a cat in the dorm isn’t good. What will you do during the holidays? Just abandon it again?”
“I’ll take responsibility!”
Wen Yang looked down at the dirty, soaking wet little kitten and, despite his apparent disdain, reluctantly nodded, “Alright then.”
Ning Chu keenly sensed that Wen Yang didn’t seem to like cats.
The plot in the book generally went something like this: one day, when Wen Yang woke up at home, he found his cat had turned into a catgirl, lying n*ked in bed with him. After being taken care of by Wen Yang, the catgirl, reaching her estrus, repaid his kindness.
If he didn’t like cats, how would the catgirl’s gratitude subplot come about?
He hesitated again; if that was really the catgirl from the story, bringing it home could be like inviting a thief in!
But that was Wen Yang’s pet, not a dorm cat.
What were the chances it would be that convenient?
“Little Black~” Ning Chu’s voice had never been this soft as he quickly named the little black cat, gently petting it while his brain raced through thoughts.
If left alone, this kitten would likely d*e on this rainy night.
He wasn’t a great guy, but at least he had personally fed this little kitty.
Even if this cat did turn into a catgirl, with his experience in messing with the plot and disrupting Wen Yang’s happiness, surely he could handle just one cat!
Determined, Ning Chu stood up and said, “I’ll go get some milk!”
“It has to be goat milk; most cats are allergic to cow’s milk.”
“Really?”
He turned back in surprise, nodded firmly, and hurried off to buy goat milk while asking the supermarket owner for a plastic bag, carefully putting the kitten in it.
His steps quickened on the way back.
Upon reaching the dormitory, Ning Chu dropped the umbrella, not caring about his wet clothes, and dashed to the balcony to grab the kettle.
“What took you so long?” Zhang Shaoqing turned around, only to see a small black cat inside a transparent plastic bag on the floor.
He asked in astonishment, “Are you two planning to keep a cat?”
“Ning Chu wants to keep it; it looks like it has a cold and isn’t very spirited.”
“That’s great! I like cats too!” Zhang Shaoqing excitedly shuffled over, carefully taking the kitten out of the bag. “But what if it’s sick? Should we take it to the vet?”
“I have a new towel; let’s wrap it up and dry it off.” Wen Yang pulled out a brand-new towel from the drawer.
Then he rummaged through the drawer and found a box of cold medicine. “Ning Chu, give it some of this later.”
“That’s human cold medicine, right?” Ning Chu came back from the balcony, placing the kettle down. He turned and asked, “Is that okay?”
“Why wouldn’t it be? Just a little,” Wen Yang said, breaking off a tiny piece of the pill with his nail. “This is enough; mix it in with the goat milk for it to drink.”
Ning Chu noticed that this guy didn’t seem as averse to cats as he pretended; when it came to taking care of the cat, he seemed quite knowledgeable, far better than Ning Chu, who just liked cats and was aimlessly trying to be nice.
“How do you know all this?”
“Just picked up a few things.”
“You have a cat at home?”
Wen Yang made a little nest for the kitten in the corner with his new towel and shook his head at Ning Chu’s question. “No, we don’t have a cat. I just happen to scroll through vet stuff a lot on my phone.”
You should have said that earlier!
So this little kitten really was the one from the story!
If the plot develops as expected, this cat would be adopted by Wen Yang and brought home during the holidays, right?
Ning Chu’s expression darkened as his gaze instinctively fell on the curled-up kitten, which stared back at him with round, crystal-like eyes, unblinking.
“……”
It’s fine; this cat is still young. Even if it transforms into a catgirl on the spot, it would still be a minor, and Wen Yang, the little virgin, wouldn’t dare!
While the cat was still small, he could brainwash it later! You owe me because I rescued you, obviously!
With that thought, Ning Chu felt enlightened.
The girls in this world are too open and might give him a green hat, but he could raise one from a young age himself!
“Once the water boils, just toss the goat milk in and heat it for a few minutes.” Wen Yang continued to grumble about the kitten, but his hands were diligently drying the kitten’s fur, guiding with, “Make sure it’s not too hot—just a bit warmer than your body temperature.”
Ning Chu quickly replied, “Got it, got it! Shao Qing, stop staring at the cat like a love-struck fool! Come help out!”
“d*mn! When have I ever looked love-struck?!”
