“I’m so scared!”

The scene from her dream jolted Ning Chu awake, and she shot up like a frightened jack-in-the-box.

Her heart raced as she pressed her hand against her chest, glancing around in a panic.

This is absurd! Absolutely ridiculous!

Thanks to that plot from yesterday, she was having yet another dream with an abundance of handsome men all around her.

Unlike her previous dreams, this time she felt oddly pleased, as if she were the filling in a delightful cookie.

Just as the dream was about to reach its grand finale, a strong sense of moral guilt yanked her back to reality, her heart thumping wildly as if it were trying to leap from her chest.

This is terrifying!

Gasping for breath, Ning Chu muttered to herself, “I’m not that kind of person… How could I be happy? Like some kind of promiscuous vixen…”

Is it true that the more you fear something, the more it comes to haunt you in dreams?

Indeed, if she continued down this path of obsession, her brain might just morph into a giant male magnet!

What if the things in her dreams actually happened to her?!

“Big sis?”

“No, nothing’s wrong.”

Ning Chu turned to Black Bean, whose shiny eyes gleamed in the dark, and explained, “I just had a nightmare.”

“What kind of nightmare…?”

“Never mind!” She cut Black Bean off, “I was just talking in my sleep.”

“Oh~”

She leaned against the headboard, glancing at the time to discover it was barely midnight.

Wen Yang had sent her a message half an hour ago, saying he was having dinner with Zhang Shaoqing and that the two-faced brat would be hopping onto a train tomorrow morning, fleeing like a scared rabbit.

“I always knew that rich second-gen wouldn’t know how to work hard.”

Ning Chu muttered. While she couldn’t deny that some wealthy kids are exceptionally talented due to their upbringing, Zhang Shaoqing definitely didn’t belong to that category.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t still be attending the same university as her.

Having eaten too much in the afternoon, the nightmare had left her wide awake, unable to return to sleep after being startled.

Yawning, Ning Chu stepped out of her room, only to notice a beam of light coming from the living room. Turning her head, she saw Ning Yuan sitting on the sofa, engrossed in his laptop.

“Bro, you’re not sleeping yet?”

“Just finished packing, heading to bed soon.”

She only now noticed a large suitcase sitting by the front door.

Strolling over to the living room, she sat next to Ning Yuan, peering closely at the screen.

He was playing a mahjong game, one of those anime-style ones reminiscent of “Mahjong Soul.”

Ning Yuan caught a whiff of the sweet, youthful scent of his sister mixed with her body wash. Without a word, he subtly shifted over to create some distance.

After spending a long time together during the New Year, he couldn’t help but admit that his once-messy little brother had transformed into a rather decent woman.

Though she might not captivate men with every smile, her good looks, figure, and growing feminine charm were enough to ignite wild fantasies in most guys.

The rest were probably just too cold and bland.

Ning Chu wasn’t bothered by her brother’s slight withdrawal. She curled up, resting her arms on her knees, and glanced at his profile.

Compared to her messy, carefree brother from her past life who had completely forgotten about family, this stable and polished sibling seemed way more reliable and fit the image she had in mind.

Too bad now she was the one out partying…

“Bro, what if Mom suddenly passed away…?” For some reason, a strong urge to spill her thoughts overwhelmed Ning Chu.

“Mom’s barely in her forties; she could easily live until eighty.”

“I mean, what if.” She lowered her head, burying her face in her arms, mumbling, “Let’s pool some money together for a full health check for Mom.”

Ning Yuan stared for a moment, turning to look at his sister, who was curled up on the couch, head down, small and pitiful, her voice dripping with sorrow.

“What’s wrong?”

“I had a nightmare…”

“Don’t think too much.” Ning Yuan shook his head, “I’ve heard girls tend to be more emotional, and frankly, I’m starting to believe it.”

He paused, then replied, “If Mom suddenly passed away, I’d have to take on the daily grind, becoming a real breadwinner, so you and Black Bean wouldn’t have to drop out of school.”

“Really? Wouldn’t you just become a slacker and stop caring?”

“If it were back when you were in high school, I might have that tendency… You know me well?” Ning Yuan laughed, shaking his head. “But lately, I can’t seem to read you anymore. Sometimes I feel like you’ve turned into a different person.”

“……”

“But suddenly becoming a woman, that’s a pretty big deal. It’s normal if your personality changed a bit.”

Ning Chu kept her head bowed, avoiding her brother’s gaze.

“Mom can be a bit unreasonable, you know? When you were little, they found some stuff during your health checks but didn’t operate because they wanted to wait until you hit puberty,” Ning Yuan grumbled. “And she raised you like a boy from the start, not worried about the psychological impact.”

“We were poor back then.”

“As long as you don’t blame Mom…”

Suddenly, he straightened his back on the couch, completely transfixed by the laptop screen, muttering, “One whiteboard! One whiteboard! Here it comes!”

“Whiteboard! Whiteboard! Whiteboard!”

“d*mn it! My yakuza hand is gone!”

Ning Yuan, frustrated, flung the laptop onto the coffee table, and Ning Chu couldn’t help but chuckle, turning her head away to stifle her laughter.

Calming his excitement, Ning Yuan looked over at his sister. “Why the sudden deep conversation? If Mom hears it, you might as well be legless.”

“That’s a bit much…”

Noticing the worry in Ning Chu’s eyes, he took out his phone to check his balance and said, “If you’re worried, I can pitch in two thousand for the health check.”

“I can contribute a thousand.”

“Where’d you get that money?”

Mentioning it immediately lifted Ning Chu’s spirits, and she straightened her back proudly. “I make money writing novels online! I can earn two or three thousand a month!”

“Good for you!”

“Right?!”

Though that money came from her own spending, it was still an achievement!

“What’s the title? Let me take a look.” Ning Yuan was already into online novels, and now he was even more curious. “Which site?”

“Uh… a somewhat obscure site.”

Ning Chu instantaneously felt guilty, her previously proud posture slumping back into a ball.

“Tell me the title! If it’s good, I’ll help you subscribe and promote your book to others.” Ning Yuan smiled, “Grandpa reads novels too. He likes those rural stories. If he gets into it, you could easily gain a few dozen subscribers.”

I’d rather jump off a building! There’s no place for me in this world anymore!

Ning Chu grumbled inwardly.

How on earth could she let relatives and friends see her autobiography?! What’s with the loss of face?!

Talk about social d*ath!

“It’s just a campus romance novel, nothing special. You probably won’t like it anyway…”

“What are you shy for? I have eclectic tastes. If I can’t read it, I can at least tip you a few bucks to show my support.”

“No way, no way!” Ning Chu jumped off the sofa, flustered, and dashed into her bedroom, “Remember the health check! I’m going to sleep!”

Watching her slender frame flit away, Ning Yuan shook his head with a smile, closing the laptop as he reclined back onto the couch.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that his sister was hiding a lot of secrets.
