389. School Begins
“You don’t know, Ning Chu is now as pretty as a ghost!”
“???”
In the cafeteria that morning, Zhang Shaoqing was grinning as he shared his gossip with Wang Jie: “You remember how I went to hang out with Wen Yang? After just a month, Ning Chu has been devoured whole by him!”
“No way! That battle… I waited outside for five hours! I was almost frozen stiff! Look at how loyal I am, willing to freeze to d*ath for my brother’s happiness, never disturbing him!”
“Five hours?” Wang Jie looked up in shock, “That’s too exaggerated, right?”
“As long as you know I’m exaggerating… Last year, I still saw her as a little brat. That face looked like a middle schooler’s! But now, just look at her, that chest, that waist, that b*tt—ripe to perfection!”
Wang Jie scratched his head, “Saying that about Ning Chu, she’d definitely get mad if she heard you!”
“She’s not here.” Zhang Shaoqing chuckled, slinging his arm around Wang Jie’s shoulder. “Speaking of you… Why do you still look half-dead? Did you not hit the gym even once during the month of winter break? Your girlfriend is more seductive than a succubus. If this goes on, you might end up like a walking skeleton!”
“I just can’t be bothered…”
“Then you deserve to be drained dry! Hey, how long do you two go at it?”
“Um…”
Zhang Shaoqing suddenly noticed the noisy cafeteria had fallen silent for a moment. He instinctively looked up and saw a handsome couple walking in.
The girl was about 1.6 meters tall, her thick down jacket failing to hide her alluring figure. Her rosy cheeks, though slightly youthful, radiated a strong charm that made people want to bully her.
The man beside her was nearly 1.9 meters tall, and the almost thirty-centimeter height difference made her barely able to reach his shoulder, emphasizing her petite and adorable nature.
Zhang Shaoqing, being a guy, was uninterested in Wen Yang, but after giving Ning Chu a quick once-over, he whispered to Wang Jie, “Look at the change, huh? The class beauty throne is about to be usurped!”
“Y-yeah… She’s getting prettier,” Wang Jie stammered, avoiding eye contact with Ning Chu.
Just a month apart, and his roommate had turned into an absolute vixen, making it impossible for him to look straight at her, fearing his mind might wander to inappropriate thoughts.
Those kinds of thoughts were fine for a stranger, but for a roommate he had spent so much time with, he couldn’t help but feel a bit ashamed.
“What are you getting shy for? How embarrassing! You wouldn’t have feelings for Ning Chu, would you?”
He awkwardly scratched the back of his head, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips. “I mean, she’s just so beautiful…”
“Come off it.” Zhang Shaoqing scoffed, “After living together for months, you still don’t know her true colors?”
“What true colors?”
As soon as she approached, Ning Chu overheard Zhang Shaoqing’s baseless slander and slammed her hand on the table. “You think I’m just worried about the dorm for nothing?”
“Ah, right, right!”
Zhang Shaoqing rolled his eyes. “Still calling me ‘dad’?”
“Then you want me to call you ‘mom’?”
Without missing a beat, he yelled, “Mom~!”
Hiss! That didn’t feel rewarding at all!
Ning Chu even felt like she was the one being taken advantage of.
With a fierce kick at Zhang Shaoqing’s chair, she plopped down in the empty seat across from them, looking up at Wen Yang. “Just buy whatever. I’ve already transferred the money to you.”
“Okay.”
Because transferring money to Wen Yang every day was too much trouble, Ning Chu simply set up a daily food allowance of sixty for both of them, which the payment app would automatically send to Wen Yang.
She pulled a lip balm out of her little bag, applying a thin layer to her lips, then peered up at the two boys.
Zhang Shaoqing still had that same goofy grin, looking unchanged since the New Year’s holiday ten days ago.
But Wang Jie…
He looked like he was no longer a virgin yet still shyly dipped his head to drink porridge, his eyes darting around in avoidance of her gaze.
Besides that, he seemed skinnier too, with slightly sunken cheeks. One could only imagine what he had gone through during the winter break.
Seeing Wang Jie like this, Ning Chu couldn’t help but sigh in pity.
She turned to Zhang Shaoqing and asked, “What’s your situation with Qian Qian now?”
Wang Jie perked up, his ears pricking at attention.
Upon hearing that, Zhang Shaoqing’s face fell instantly. “What can it be… The things you can’t get are the best~”
“Spill the details.”
He looked miserable, just about to speak when his eyes suddenly darted to directly behind Ning Chu. He abruptly buried his head and rushed out of the cafeteria, saying, “Gotta go!”
Ning Chu looked puzzled but soon heard a cheerful voice calling from behind them.
“Shaoqing!”
Turning to the sound, she saw Qian Qian just entering the cafeteria, hurrying after Zhang Shaoqing.
Zhang Shaoqing froze up completely, and when he looked up again, there was a look of forced excitement on his face. “Qian Qian? What are you doing here?”
“I have a class first period!”
Qian Qian wrapped her arm around his and cheerfully pulled him toward the cafeteria window. “Want to have breakfast together?”
“I already ate… You’re a teacher; don’t do this in school…”
“True~ Just tell everyone you’re my little brother?”
“……”
Wen Yang returned with two breakfasts, but his gaze was glued to Zhang Shaoqing. He sat next to Ning Chu and asked, “What’s this about?”
“Come on, it’s obvious~” Ning Chu’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Shaoqing is finally tasting his own medicine! Finally, someone to keep him in check!”
“Huh?”
“He finally offed Qian Qian’s ex-boyfriend and got her to like him, but to him, the unattainable is always the most desirable~ Looks like he’s in for some trouble ahead.”
In the Little Emperor Wen story, the villain used coercion and seduction to manipulate Qian Qian, but in reality, Zhang Shaoqing was terrified of her, running away from the very girl who was pursuing him.
Going forward, whether he was at a bar watching ladies dance or at a karaoke bar ordering princesses, it seemed he’d have a woman to monitor him.
Talk about self-inflicted suffering!
Wang Jie, who had stayed uninvolved in all this, looked dazed and raised his head. “What? I don’t understand a word!”
“You don’t need to get it. Just focus on working out to please your little girlfriend.”
“???”
A single line left him blushing like a tomato, muttering under his breath, “Didn’t Ning Chu used to blush watching little movies… How did she become such a pro at it?”
“It’s almost time for class,” Wen Yang reminded.
“Oh!” Ning Chu quickly stuffed a meat bun into her mouth, her cheeks bulging like a dumpling.
“Eat slowly, don’t choke.”
Just as he finished speaking, her eyes went wide. “Mmm!”
Wen Yang, flustered, handed her a cup of soy milk. “I told you to slow down.”
After gulping down a big mouthful of soy milk, Ning Chu finally managed to swallow, sighing in relief as she slumped against the chair’s back. “I almost bit the dust!”
“Paper.”
“Hold on, let me check the class schedule… Looks like we don’t have as many classes this semester as before~”
Wen Yang pulled out a tissue, ready to hand it to her, but when he saw Ning Chu absorbed in her phone, only occasionally turning her face to his, he instantly understood what she was thinking. He took the tissue and wiped the grease off the corner of her mouth.
“Aren’t you embarrassed? Everyone is watching.”
“It’s fine; let those bad women see how beautiful my girlfriend is, making them feel inferior!”
