502. Young Grandma
Usually, Grandpa is the one who handles the cooking, but let’s be honest—Grandma’s culinary skills are way better.
Today is a rare occasion; Ning Chu brought her little boyfriend over for a visit, and Grandma hurriedly rushed out to buy ingredients, diving straight into the kitchen as soon as she got home.
“Ning Chu and Wen Yang, where are they?”
While busy, Grandma turned to her little girl for answers.
Mom, helping out nearby, teased with a grin, “They’re upstairs. Wen Yang hasn’t been sleeping well the past few days and is catching up on some Z’s.”
“So Ning Chu went with him… Oh~”
Grandma’s sentence trailed off, a smirk creeping onto her face that looked suspiciously like her daughter’s.
The two succubi exchanged knowing glances, sighing, “Youth is so wonderful~”
Just then, Ning Chu bounded down the stairs, planning to find her mom in the kitchen, when she overheard their musings. Shocked, she hurried into the room, hastily defending her reputation: “What nonsense are you talking about! I just took him upstairs!”
Grandma and Mom turned to her in sync, their eyes roving down her rosy cheeks to the white shirt that she had hastily buttoned wrong in her fluster.
That disheveled look made Ning Chu’s arguments lose all power.
Following their gaze, she looked down, frantically trying to button her shirt correctly and slightly mumbling, “Really, nothing happened…”
Honestly, nothing did!
They were only upstairs for half an hour—there’s no way Wen Yang could manage anything in such a short time, especially when he was drunk out of his mind and could hardly hold his own. She realized that only after her cheeks turned red, and now she was stuck awkwardly in the middle!
He insisted on being a rascal before bed! This misunderstanding? Oh, she wouldn’t forget it!
When she got back, she would definitely pick a fight with Wen Yang, then crash into bed!
“Got it, got it.” Grandma cheerfully turned back to the stove, cracking jokes with her daughter, “Young folks are shy~ Just say a couple of words and their faces turn as red as a tomato~”
“Exactly!” Mom nodded in agreement, “And it’s only been half an hour, come on!”
“Wen Yang does look pretty muscular. Time for some serious supplementing.”
“…”
The kitchen was filled with succubi, and these two women chatted freely.
Grandma discussed such matters as casually as if they were just eating and drinking, while Mom had an excited glint in her eye, clearly enjoying teasing Ning Chu.
Only Ning Chu was beet-red, feeling so bashful she couldn’t even look up. Finally, with no other option, she ratted out Grandpa: “Wen Yang is completely drunk, okay!”
Grandma blinked: “Your grandpa drank with him?”
“He kept pouring drinks! I was just looking after him, and now look at this mess!”
Her face darkened, puffing with anger: “Drinking during the day! He’ll end up in the hospital at this rate!”
“Exactly!”
“Ning Chu, do you want to try some? Fried fish, your favorite when you were a little boy.”
With her “grievance” cleared, Grandma ended the spicy topic.
“Eating!”
“Just fried, hot!”
Grandma grabbed a small bowl, scooped two golden brown fried fish pieces, and handed them to Ning Chu, sighing, “Last year, when I saw you, you were still a little boy; this year you’ve brought home a boyfriend.”
Couldn’t we not bring this up?!
That was practically Ning Chu’s Achilles’ heel! Her hand trembled, nearly sending the bowl flying.
“When I heard about it, I was worried you wouldn’t take it well. That’s why I hurriedly dragged your grandpa to find you.”
Grandma was really reminding Ning Chu of how quickly she was sinking into the ground of womanhood, making the crispy, tender fried fish taste somehow bitter.
“Who knows when we’ll get to meet the great-grandson~”
“Mom, Ning Chu just started college!”
“True, these years will be good for checking Wen Yang out. Let’s hope he isn’t all looks and no substance.”
Ning Chu walked out of the kitchen, feeling utterly defeated with her small bowl.
In the living room, Grandpa was lounging in his armchair, watching a local dialect show, munching on sunflower seeds, looking utterly at ease despite having seemingly downed a fair bit of alcohol earlier.
Apparently, Grandpa used to be in business and was quite the drinker back in the day.
“Grandpa, want some?”
Ning Chu fished out a piece of untouched fried fish from her little bowl.
Grandpa shook his head, signaling her to come closer. “Come here, sit by me.”
“What’s up?”
She jogged over and plopped down on a little stool beside him.
Grandpa looked around suspiciously, like a thief, then pulled out a bulging wallet, counting some bills before stuffing them into Ning Chu’s coat pocket without a second thought.
“What the…?”
Ning Chu awkwardly fumbled the cash in her pocket.
This was a familiar scene for her; as kids, when Mom was struggling to make ends meet, Grandpa would always slip them some money every time they visited.
“Take it. You’re looking a bit skinny. Eat more outside.”
“Not that skinny, right?”
“A little extra weight looks better. Look at your grandma when she was young; she was a knockout.”
Ning Chu perked up, “Do you have a photo?”
Mentioning photos made Grandpa beam, digging out his phone and searching deep into albums, eventually finding an old, password-protected gem.
He pointed proudly at the screen, “Look here! Your grandma was the talk of the town when she was young. So many guys hated me when we got married!”
The picture was a tad blurry and faded since it was of an old photograph, but Ning Chu leaned in, releasing an excited gasp: “Wow~”
Truth be told, Grandma wasn’t any more beautiful than Ning Chu, her bare face probably no more than Lily’s level, but she did have a captivatingly plump figure back in the day.
Her bust was significantly larger than Grandma’s now, with her current C-cup barely noticeable because of her slim waist.
Seeing her shocked expression, Grandpa was clearly pleased: “See? You better eat more; looking like a twig isn’t nice. I don’t understand how today’s girls think.”
Ning Chu nodded vigorously: “Yeah, yeah.”
Though deep down, she still thought being slim looked better.
Plus, she wasn’t entirely lacking in the “extra weight” department; that little belly and soft thighs had been a long-term struggle for her.
Curiously, Ning Chu asked, “If Grandma was that pretty, how did you woo her?”
“Look closely at me! What do you think?”
“Uh…” She scanned Grandpa up and down, unsure of what to say.
“Good looks, obviously! Your grandma chased after me, get it?”
But just then, Grandma walked in with two plates of dishes and overheard the conversation, instantly shooting down his story: “Don’t listen to his nonsense.”
“Grandma?” Ning Chu spun around with hopeful eyes.
Was there a dramatic love story waiting to be uncovered?
She was more than ready for her mental fanfiction to unfold.
“He had money back then.” Grandma rolled her eyes, “We were married within a month of our blind date.”
Ning Chu stood there, stunned, as a head full of romantic tales evaporated into thin air.
Well, that certainly aligned with the norm of parental-controlled marriages back in that era.
