544. Daily Life
After taking turns to shower and resting for a moment in the hotel, Yan Xinya was back at it, loudly declaring her craving for some barbecue and beers.
“It’s hard to meet up! We have to drink something!”
“I don’t like drinking…”
Ning Chu had changed into her conservative pajamas and was sitting at the bed’s edge, a quilt draped over her legs. “Plus, I’m all dressed for bed. I don’t want to go out.”
“Changing clothes isn’t that big of a deal.” Yan Xinya turned to Lily. “What do you think?”
Though Lily looked like an emotionless Ice Mountain Goddess, she was actually quite enthusiastic about drinking, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she nodded multiple times.
“Two to one! It’s approved! Hurry up! Change and let’s go downstairs for barbecue!”
Yan Xinya dashed over, grabbing Ning Chu by the wrist and dragging her off the bed. “Let’s go~”
“I don’t want to drink… What’s so good about getting all tipsy and causing trouble?”
“I’m here! And Wen Yang will protect you, what’s there to be afraid of?”
Ning Chu sighed in frustration. “Then go call Wen Yang from next door…”
“Got it!”
Watching the Wolf Girl rush out in a flurry, she couldn’t help but complain, “This girl is about to graduate, yet she’s still such a mess.”
But Lily had a different opinion: “Xinya is really reliable.”
“Maybe?”
Just like that, after a few exchanges, Yan Xinya flung the door open and poked her head in, shouting at Ning Chu, “Wen Yang is asleep!”
“Ah?”
“I could hear his snoring the moment I stepped into the hallway! I knocked, but he didn’t wake up. Should I still call him?”
“Don’t disturb him; he’s sleeping.”
“What time is it? And he’s sleeping this early~”
Ning Chu hugged her knees on the bed, curling up and resting her chin on her knees, mumbling, “He’s probably too busy with work usually, right?”
The Wolf Girl tilted her head, wagging her tail as she looked at her. “Big city life is just too fast-paced; I definitely can’t handle it.”
“What does Wen Yang do?” Lily chimed in.
“I’m not too sure; it’s something with an internet company. When he’s not busy, he can be home by six, but when it gets hectic, I might only see him at night,” Ning Chu complained. “He can’t sit still either; every spare moment he has, he’s off doing side jobs. No time for me at all.”
“Are you worried he’ll hurt himself?”
Being friends for a few years, Yan Xinya saw right through Ning Chu’s thoughts.
Lily nodded in agreement. “Stubborn.”
“Why don’t you go down and grab some barbecue and beers to eat in the hotel?” Ning Chu stiffly changed the topic. “If you get drunk, you can just crash here, it won’t be a problem.”
“Sounds good!”
Yan Xinya was immediately sidetracked and dashed out the door again.
With the lively Husky gone, the room felt much quieter, allowing Ning Chu to faintly hear the snoring from the next room.
Looks like he really was tired—Wen Yang never snores when he sleeps.
He rarely shows signs of fatigue, always brimming with energy as if he’s got an endless supply. Even after working late, he could wear Ning Chu out.
“I’ll go check on him.”
Ning Chu, a bit uneasy, got up from the bed and put on the coat draped over the bedside.
“What are you going to check on when he’s sleeping?”
“Just to be reassured?”
Lily glanced up from her phone, looking at the departing Ning Chu, mumbling quietly, “Once you go in, you might not come out.”
“Why do you say it like I’m going into a den of tigers?”
“Just keep it down.”
Ning Chu turned back, annoyed, and shot her a glare. “I’ll be right back! We still have barbecue to eat!”
“Oh~”
Her eyes showed disbelief as she likely had already taken it the wrong way and pulled out her wireless earbuds to listen to music.
“I can’t be bothered to explain, it’s too dirty.”
“I’m a succubus.”
Lily replied in a flat tone, owning her statement with confidence.
With the coat on and tucking her pajama bottoms back in, Ning Chu finally left the room and used another key card to open the door next door.
It was pitch dark inside, with only the sound of Wen Yang’s snoring echoing around.
She tiptoed in, gently closing the door, and stealthily made her way to the bedside. As her eyes accustomed to the dark, she could vaguely make out Wen Yang’s outline lying in bed.
Yep, he’s definitely in deep sleep~
Ning Chu squatted beside the bed, resting her chin on the edge and gazing at Wen Yang’s sleeping face.
She rarely took a moment to seriously study his features while he was asleep.
After all, most of the time, she would get tired and fall asleep first, and in the mornings, they would rush to get up for work, seldom with such leisure time.
Wen Yang had a peaceful sleeping posture, his brows relaxed and the corners of his mouth slightly smiling. His snoring wasn’t loud; it was just that the sound insulation in this hotel was terrible, or else it wouldn’t be so easy to hear from next door.
For some reason, just watching Wen Yang sleep filled Ning Chu with a sense of peace and satisfaction, causing her own lips to curve upward, her eyes softening.
During these few days of rest, she decided not to disturb Wen Yang.
Usually, all he thinks about is making money, living in the fast lane of a big city, and now, finally, he has a chance to just unwind.
Ning Chu stood up and pulled the thin blanket covering Wen Yang’s belly, but just as she moved, his snoring stopped immediately, making her freeze in place, afraid to wake him.
However, Wen Yang lifted his arm and pulled her around his waist.
“Awake?”
“Uh-huh.”
“If I had known, I wouldn’t have gone in; I thought you were sleeping deeply.”
“Not really; my own snoring woke me up…”
Wen Yang yawned, his arm tightening around Ning Chu, forcing her down onto the bed with him.
“Never heard of someone being woken up by their own snoring.”
Rarely, Wen Yang didn’t fidget around; he simply held Ning Chu close, pressing her against his chest.
She could hear his calm, steady breathing clearly and catch a whiff of his indescribable scent; through their contact, she could even feel the pound of his heartbeat resonating within her.
Ning Chu adjusted her position, wrapping her arm around Wen Yang’s head, resting it on her shoulder.
“Are you tired? I’ve never heard you snore before.”
“A few days ago, I watched the news about someone who died from working overtime. I doubt they made much in the end.”
“Why don’t you change jobs? If you could get into a foreign company, it’d be great; I’ve heard they have less overtime and great benefits~”
“I’m being serious! Can you stop touching my tail?!”
Wen Yang sheepishly let go of her. “It’s fine; I didn’t think it was tiring, just didn’t sleep well last night. I had to catch an early train today.”
“What made you not sleep well?”
“Isn’t it time to go back and meet my mom soon?” He spoke a bit timidly. “Every time I see her, the pressure is pretty heavy.”
“What’s there to be afraid of? Can you… can you stop touching around?!”
Ning Chu angrily pushed his hand off her chest.
See! Wen Yang being this tired isn’t her fault! Seriously, this guy’s desires are stronger than a succubus, and he’s got boundless energy; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to handle so many vixens in novels.
And here she was feeling a hint of guilt about him earlier?!
“Why can’t I touch my wife?”
“Can’t we just have a normal conversation? Besides, when did I become your wife?”
“Sooner or later.”
“The sound insulation is terrible…”
What if Lily could hear their conversation right now?!
Ning Chu struggled against Wen Yang’s teasing, and as her eyes began to water, her resistance grew weaker and weaker, just as the door was knocked on by Yan Xinya.
“Time for barbecue~”
She jolted, her limp body suddenly filled with energy, jumping up from the bed and rushing towards the door. “Coming!”
As she opened it, Yan Xinya was standing there, arms filled with barbecue and beer, a teasing glint in her eyes as she leaned closer to Ning Chu, wrinkling her nose.
“Go on, go on! Out of the way!”
“Were you two up to no good~? Did I interrupt something?”
“Not at all!”
