562. Trying to Get Pregnant
“Hmm, my health check-up is totally fine! Super healthy!”
“Coincidentally, so is mine.”
“Then why is that?”
Ning Chu tilted her head in confusion and glanced over the health report on her mobile phone again, mumbling quietly, “It’s been two months; why is there no sign at all in my belly?”
“Maybe you didn’t rest well? Were you worn out from renovating the house recently?”
“That can’t be it! No signs are perfect; I really don’t want to be a bride with a big belly.”
Wen Yang grimaced, “But Mom suspects it’s my problem.”
“Well, maybe it really is you?”
“Impossible! You know how strong I am, right? If you don’t believe me, give it a try!”
Ning Chu looked Wen Yang up and down, raising an eyebrow as she let out a noncommittal huff.
She’s a succubus with a high chance of getting pregnant! Since they decided to try for a baby, she’d ditched the safety measures and made every night look like a custard-filled bun. The issue definitely wasn’t hers!
And Wen Yang is the male protagonist of the story; none of the female supporting characters in the book ever got pregnant despite all the chaos.
If she had no problems, it had to be Wen Yang’s fault!
“Why are they rushing us? The house just got renovated, the wedding is still in prep, and now they want us to have a baby?”
Ning Chu complained as she got up from her yoga mat and used a towel to wipe the sweat from her workout.
“I shouldn’t have come back to work; being too close to my mom means there’s no way to escape.”
After several years of working abroad, the couple finally saved enough to buy a house and came back half a year ago to get a new place.
Wen Yang quickly found a new job thanks to his experience in a big company. Though his income dropped significantly, it was still enough to cover the mortgage and daily expenses.
Ning Chu, on the other hand, was running around like crazy due to the renovation and was just about to start looking for a new job when her mother started pushing for the wedding and baby plans.
If it weren’t for her longstanding desire to have a child…
“Why does everything have to pile up together? I want to find a job and make money.”
Turning around while still grumbling, Ning Chu noticed Wen Yang’s gaze was firmly planted on her yoga pants-clad backside.
Realizing his longing expression, Wen Yang quickly averted his eyes and said seriously, “As long as my salary covers the mortgage, just focus on getting pregnant and preparing for the wedding.”
“Easier said than done… It feels like I might never get to work again.”
Ning Chu sighed, wiping the thin sweat from her neck as she plopped down on the sofa, tilting against Wen Yang’s shoulder and playfully rubbing against him.
“What are you wiping your sweat on me for?” Wen Yang asked, bemused.
“Are you disgusted?”
He started peeling an apple, shaking his head, “Mom just can’t sit still. Now that Hei Dou is in boarding school, she’s turned all her attention to you.”
“Once you have a baby, just let Mom help take care of it. I won’t be unable to work.”
“Yeah right, two years off work, and I’ll be completely out of the loop.” Ning Chu took a bite of the apple and scoffed, “Back in the day, Mom said she never wanted to take care of kids again; now she’s just waiting for me to give her a grandchild.”
How did she unknowingly drift toward the housewife direction when things were going smoothly at work?
“I’m off to take a shower.”
“Then I’ll go make dinner~”
This apartment, while not a luxurious large flat, is about 90 square meters but is exactly to Ning Chu’s satisfaction after she personally confirmed every aspect of the design and construction.
Especially the big bathtub in the main bathroom—totally thrilling!
And the second bedroom turned entertainment room fulfilled her fantasies from back in the day.
The soundproofing was also solid; no more worries about getting complaints from the neighbors or biting the quilt in tears.
After showering, Ning Chu was towel-drying her wet hair as she followed the scent to the kitchen.
“What are we having today?”
“Braised ribs, stir-fried bean sprouts, tomato and egg soup… Don’t come in, it’s smoky.” Wen Yang replied while turning to glance at his wife standing outside the kitchen.
“Why are you just wrapped in a bath towel?”
The short towel barely covered from her chest to the tops of her thighs, making Wen Yang’s cheeks heat up the moment he laid eyes on her.
“I’m in preparation, after all~” Ning Chu teased with a grin.
“You preparing is tormenting me…” Wen Yang groaned. With only two days off over the weekend, his back hurt even more than when he sat for long hours at work, “Aren’t you scared of being seen by the neighbors in the other building?”
“The curtains are closed, and I’m not completely n*ked, okay?”
Being wrapped in a bath towel is even more alluring than being n*ked, right?
He didn’t argue, thinking about heading to his grandfather’s house in the afternoon to grab some medicinal wine for health.
“Well, no reaction, I guess I’ll just keep testing every so often.”
She had checked during her shower, but the result was still disappointing.
“Do you think it’s too frequent?” Wen Yang shouted over the sound of the range hood while cooking, “Shouldn’t your ovulation period be coming up? I’ll need to conserve some energy for the battle?”
“Can you hold out, though?”
Ning Chu was skeptical about Wen Yang’s self-control.
She knew that trying to conceive every day would lower the quality, but she was a succubus, and Wen Yang had quite the passion; it was hard to reign it in when they were sharing the same bed at night.
“Aren’t you the one who should be asked that?”
“I’m definitely fine~” Ning Chu confidently patted her chest, then mischievously tugged at the towel, exposing a glimpse of her northern hemisphere.
“Cut it out, hurry and get dressed so you don’t catch a chill.”
Wen Yang was onto her playful nature.
“Hmph! I’m going to play video games!”
After years of working outside, both Ning Chu and Wen Yang had mastered a few home-cooked dishes. While not gourmet, they could at least handle cooking independently.
Usually, Wen Yang cooked over the weekend and made sure to focus on nutrition, while Ning Chu only wanted to whip up dishes she enjoyed, with a full table of meat.
“Dinner’s ready!”
Wen Yang called out to the dining room as he set the lunch on the table.
“Coming, coming~”
A moment later, Ning Chu strolled in, cradling her tablet and not lifting her head.
She changed into loungewear – an oversized white shirt that was hardly thin, with its long hem hiding her shorts, revealing only her pale thighs, making it look like she was only in a shirt.
She wasn’t even wearing a bra and didn’t care about any possible wardrobe malfunctions, her attention only on her game as she lazily sat beside Wen Yang.
Wen Yang mused that his wife’s outfit wasn’t much better than wearing just a towel.
“Stop playing, let’s eat.”
He casually added a piece of braised rib to her bowl.
“Why did you put so much rice in here?”
Once the game ended, Ning Chu finally looked at her bowl, picking it up and trying to sneak some of Wen Yang’s food.
“Eat more; look at how skinny you are.”
“It’s not like you won’t finish what I don’t eat anyway…”
She took a few bites then rested her chin on her hand, gazing longingly at Wen Yang’s profile, “Honey~”
Wen Yang sighed, reluctantly asking, “Spill it, what do you want to buy?”
“That’s why I need to go back to work… If I want to buy something, I have to ask you for money.” Ning Chu complained while pulling out her phone, excitedly showing her shopping cart, “Look at this stroller! It can lay down, sit up, and doubles as a car seat!”
“Over a thousand, huh?”
“That’s not too expensive, right? A good one can last until they’re four or five!” She gushed and clicked onto another product page, “And this educational toy! I want to play with it! The baby will definitely love it.”
“And this toy… uh~”
Her face flushed slightly as she nervously glanced at Wen Yang.
Wen Yang shook his head with a wry smile, “If you like it, just buy it. Can’t we put the other stuff off until you’re actually pregnant?”
“Better safe than sorry~”
