564. Sisters
The last time Yan Xinya met Ning Chu was during the New Year.
Back then, the Wolf Girl was still that vivacious, sporty girl, but upon their reunion, the sporty girl was now pregnant, wearing a loose-fitting long dress that gave her an unexpectedly gentle, married-woman vibe.
If she could just keep her mouth shut…
Her little bump wasn’t very obvious, but the more notable change was her noticeably larger bust, almost rivaling a Succubus.
While her exterior exuded grace, Yan Xinya’s personality remained lively as she dashed around the house, examining the decorations and furniture.
“You personally oversaw the entire renovation? It looks amazing!”
“Yup! Every tile was personally picked out by me~”
Ning Chu couldn’t hide her pride in that accomplishment. Although she was a bit worn out during the renovation, nothing compared to the satisfaction of setting up her dream home, a feeling no simulation game could bring.
“Want some milk powder? Pregnant lady milk powder, bought by Wen Yang, still unopened.”
She walked into the kitchen, pulled out a can of milk powder from under the cabinet, and turned to ask.
But Yan Xinya came scampering over, lowering her voice and glancing guiltily toward the living room. “Do you have any drinks?”
“I’m trying to conceive… Wen Yang banned me from drinks ages ago.”
Ning Chu sighed dramatically, but then her face lit up with an excited yet flustered smile. She crouched down and pulled a bag of milk tea powder from the very bottom of the cabinet. “But don’t tell Wen Yang!”
“Milk tea!”
“When Wen Yang isn’t home, I make milk tea for myself. If I get caught, I’ll say it’s just milk. Gotta keep the cover intact!”
Yan Xinya nodded vigorously, her wolf ears swaying in sync.
“How long have you been pregnant? And you hid it, saying you were just looking for a job.”
“Surprise! Were you shocked at first?”
“More like startled.”
The Wolf Girl leaned against the kitchen sliding door, playing lookout for Ning Chu while chatting. “It’s almost five months now. I only found out last month when I felt unwell and went for a checkup.”
“You’re carefree enough, but what about your boyfriend? Is he just as oblivious?”
“He’s a cop! He’s hardly ever around.”
Ning Chu sighed, a hint of envy in her voice. “Cops are great! They give you tons of security, plus they have a steady job.”
“How did you two meet?”
Yan Xinya awkwardly scratched her head, blushing. “Didn’t I tell you during graduation photos? When I was a fitness coach, there was this guy who was really into me, super persistent. I even couldn’t beat him in a fight—that’s him…”
“Wait! You have to be able to beat him, right?”
“Not necessarily. Qian Qian became a cop later too, and it turns out they’re colleagues. They’ve been hanging out during breaks, and that’s how they got to know each other.”
Sounds like quite the fateful encounter, huh?
Just look at Yan Xinya’s rare blush—she probably can’t stand up to him in the ring, and I bet he bullies her at home too. It’s not every day you find someone capable of keeping the rambunctious Husky in line.
“Is it a big bump?” Ning Chu suddenly asked.
“You’re practically a future mom now! You don’t think I’d still be shy, right?”
“Then give us the details!”
Yan Xinya was blushing even harder now. She glanced toward the marble countertop in the kitchen. “You two seem pretty adventurous~ even the kitchen has your scents.”
“…”
“There’s even an apron! Don’t tell me you just wore the apron? I can imagine…”
Ning Chu playfully pounced on her. “Shut up! Don’t even think about it!”
Yan Xinya looked utterly innocent—she was practically a mom-to-be now, ranking up in life as she made even a Succubus a touch uneasy.
After some playful wrestling, the milk tea was finally ready.
Now five months pregnant, the Wolf Girl didn’t have to worry too much about being careful with which stage of pregnancy she was in; a little milk tea now and then wouldn’t hurt.
The two snuck in the kitchen, sipping their milk tea and glancing nervously at the living room, scared of getting caught.
Propping herself up on the counter, Yan Xinya took a sip and sighed contentedly. “You’ve been married to Wen Yang for so long; aren’t you planning a wedding?”
“I’ve been busy saving up for a house, but we’re already planning it.”
“Why don’t we have a joint wedding?”
Ning Chu seemed intrigued but hesitant.
Still, since they lived in different cities, organizing a joint wedding could be a hassle.
“Let’s pass on that. We’d have to shuttle guests back and forth, and it’s not like I can do it immediately. At least six months to go.”
She wanted to ask Yan Xinya about tips for pregnancy, but the oblivious Husky had fallen for it and couldn’t share any wisdom.
Meanwhile, after two months of prepping for a baby, taking folic acid, learning the best positions to conceive online, and avoiding drinks and high-calorie foods, her belly had shown zero signs of change.
“Do you want a boy or a girl?” Ning Chu asked, gazing enviously at Yan Xinya’s baby bump.
Though she used to hate kids, maybe it was the hormones or simply aging, but she found herself increasingly fond of them over the years.
“I’m fine with either. Maybe a girl? She might be more quiet?”
Yan Xinya shook her head vigorously. “No way! Look at yourself!”
Plus, having a girl would likely just mean a mini Husky. She had never seen a Husky described as “quiet” before.
“They say daughters take after their fathers~ What if?”
“What are you two drinking?”
Suddenly, a voice from nowhere made both Ning Chu and Yan Xinya jump. They spun around and hurriedly tried to hide their cups behind them.
Upon seeing Wen Yang, the two besties nearly spoke simultaneously.
“It’s milk!”
“She made me drink it!”
Ning Chu paused, her eyes wide in disbelief as she turned to Yan Xinya, but the guilty feeling morphed into rage. She lunged at Yan Xinya, “Yan Xinya!”
The Wolf Girl took off running, darting out of the kitchen faster than a rabbit, even with her pregnancy!
“You sold me out!”
Not long after, Ning Chu was caught by Wen Yang, who grabbed her by the collar. She looked ready to chase down her target but found her slippers slipping helplessly on the smooth tiles.
“Enough! She’s a pregnant woman.”
“Exactly! I’m a pregnant woman!”
Yan Xinya hid behind her boyfriend, grinning cheekily.
“She hardly looks like a pregnant woman!” Ning Chu rolled her eyes in frustration. “What if she trips one day? She’s so loud all the time.”
Li Han, feeling exasperated, rubbed Yan Xinya’s head. “I tell her every day, but she doesn’t listen.”
The Wolf Girl suddenly showed her sweet side, happily squinting her eyes and nudging her head against Li Han’s hand.
Ning Chu stopped her fussing, watching Yan Xinya with a mixture of envy and awe. “I can’t believe she has this side to her~”
Before, she couldn’t even imagine Yan Xinya as the nurturing type, but now, that time didn’t seem too far off.
And if Yan Xinya could transform from a single girl to a soon-to-be wife, then perhaps her own changes weren’t so drastic either.
