593. Kindergarten
When their daughter woke up, Ning Chu and Wen Yang were still sound asleep on either side of her.
As the first light of dawn crept in, she turned to face her mother, noticing Ning Chu’s slightly pointed ears and her cheeks still tinged with a hint of pink.
Ning Chu wasn’t sleeping soundly; her brows were furrowed, her legs tightly clutching the covers, and her tail twitching restlessly.
Her pajama top had ridden up, revealing a deep red satin pattern. The little girl clearly remembered that last night while bathing with her mother, the lovely design had been a soft pink.
Curious, she reached out and poked Ning Chu’s belly.
“Hmm~”
Almost immediately, Ning Chu blinked in confusion, and the moment she saw her daughter’s innocent face, her cheeks flushed an even deeper shade of red.
She stiffened, shot up in bed, awkwardly crossed her legs, and darted her eyes away from her daughter’s pure gaze.
“Mom~ Why were you crying last night? Did Dad bully you?”
“…
…”
Ning Chu didn’t say a word, but in her annoyance, she smacked Wen Yang awake.
“Ask your dad! I’m going to shower!”
If it wasn’t for Wen Yang wanting to spice things up, she wouldn’t have woken their daughter!
Luckily, the little girl just knocked on the door when she heard the commotion instead of barging in; otherwise, Ning Chu wouldn’t know how to justify herself!
It’s just as well that their daughter was barely three years old; she’d surely forget this incident when she grew up.
Leaving Wen Yang to explain, Ning Chu dashed into the bathroom, pulled out her mobile phone, and searched on Zhihu for how to handle a situation like this.
Hmm… eighty percent of parents have been caught by their kids? Is that for real? How come I’ve never been caught?
She suddenly realized that her father had always been a non-entity in her life since childhood.
Continuing to scroll through various responses, Ning Chu’s embarrassment lightened a bit as she read through people’s shared experiences.
Her daughter is only three, after all! Plus, there were examples of parents caught in the act with a crowd of visiting relatives—those horrifying scenes sent shivers down her spine just imagining them!
Some people were in far worse situations, which made her heart feel a lot lighter~
Feeling satisfied, Ning Chu tossed aside her pajamas and stepped into the shower.
After a sleepless night where Wen Yang had been left rather impotent, she had to cool off in the morning, her thoughts still littered with dreamy blushes—if it weren’t for their daughter, they might have already been sharing breakfast together.
After taking her shower to calm down, Ning Chu returned to the bedroom.
Wen Yang was already up, packing their daughter’s little schoolbag and the essentials for their hot spring trip.
Ning Chu glanced at her daughter, who had shuffled over to Wen Yang, and conspiratorially asked, “How did you explain that to her?”
“I told her I was helping you practice yoga.”
A bit nervously, she asked, “Does she believe that?”
“She’s too young to understand anything!” Wen Yang chuckled in reply. “I mean, I can’t just tell her that I actually bully you, right?”
“Why yes, you are bullying me!” Ning Chu huffed as she playfully kicked his leg, then called to their daughter, “Shuqin, it’s time to change!”
“Okay!”
“Honey, you go out for a bit.”
Their daughter climbed down from the bed, looking up innocently at Wen Yang as he walked away, “Why does Dad have to go out?”
“Because your dad is a man, and you’re a girl.”
Ning Chu answered off-handedly, opening the wardrobe, and after a moment’s thought, pulled out an adorable princess dress.
“Let’s wear this!”
“Mm!”
Their daughter didn’t seem to have a fashion preference, but Ning Chu could tell she clearly liked wearing dresses.
After all, pants crammed her tail, making it hard to move—totally uncomfortable!
As she dressed her daughter, Ning Chu chattered on, “Make sure to hide your tail at school, bad kids will tug on it and it’ll hurt~ And don’t pull anyone else’s tail; that’s rude.”
“Don’t fight or argue at kindergarten. If someone picks on you, come back and tell Mommy and Daddy.”
“Grandma will pick you up after school. Try to behave at Grandma’s house too, alright? No more playing with your mobile phone!”
Black Bean is already in college; if only he could play with their daughter, at least she wouldn’t be bored.
Before she knew it, Ning Chu was rambling, and as she finished dressing her daughter, she realized the little one was starting to look slightly annoyed.
“Okay, I get it, I know…”
She paused, ruffled her daughter’s hair, and finally managed to control her endless chatter.
“Alright, go find Dad to play. I’m off to make breakfast for you!”
Waking up early meant Ning Chu had plenty of time to whip up breakfast and put on a pretty face.
With everything ready, the family of three enjoyed breakfast and then held hands while heading out the door.
Starting school for the first time and leaving her parents, the little girl was obviously nervous. She sat in the car with her legs tightly squeezed together, embodying her shy, introverted self.
“The school teacher is a catgirl~” Ning Chu soothed, “She’s really pretty, and a lot gentler than Mom.”
“Prettier than Mom?”
Wen Yang, driving, casually responded, “That’s impossible. I’ve never seen anyone prettier than your mom in my life.”
“I think Sister Lily is cuter than you, Mom!”
Ning Chu almost jumped, “What do you mean, Sister? She’s an Aunty!”
“But Aunty wants me to call her Sister…”
“Why is she trying to act so youthful?”
Wen Yang, holding back laughter, explained to their daughter, or maybe trying to soothe his wife, “She’s just always in her makeup. Your mom looks just as good when she’s made up!”
Plus, since her pregnancy, let’s just say her assets had… expanded—not a droop in sight!
“Exactly! And she doesn’t even work or have kids! Her cosmetics probably cost hundreds or thousands!”
Ning Chu couldn’t help but envy that rich lady~ She had snagged quite a few makeup samples from Lily.
After a ten-minute drive, they parked in front of the kindergarten.
The not-so-wide street was now crammed with cars, and it was easy to spot quite a few luxury vehicles.
Getting out of the car, their daughter looked even more nervous, clinging tightly to Ning Chu and Wen Yang’s sleeves, peeking out from behind them to size up her fellow kindergarteners.
“Mom, I don’t want to go to school…”
She was almost in tears.
“Now that we’re here, at least meet your teacher, okay?”
The moment they walked through the school gates, Ning Chu spotted her daughter’s catgirl teacher.
The teacher was probably only about five feet tall, sweet, adorable, and oh-so-approachable, with orange hair and a matching cat tail—quite the eye-catcher, too!
The catgirl teacher had a knack for connecting with the kids. Within just a few minutes of meeting, she had their shy daughter laughing gleefully, completely forgetting about going home.
Ning Chu let out a sigh of relief: “Teacher Chen, I’m leaving Shuqin in your care. Grandma will pick her up after school; you’ve seen her before.”
“Yup, don’t worry, Shuqin’s mom.”
“Thanks so much!”
Watching her daughter being led away by the teacher, Ning Chu cheerfully nudged her heels against Wen Yang’s shoes.
Wen Yang, discreetly averting his gaze, asked, “Should we drive straight to the hot spring hotel or swing by Lily’s first?”
“Shh~”
Though Ning Chu couldn’t help but sneak a peek at the catgirl teacher’s figure, what she looked at was her business—Wen Yang wasn’t allowed the same privilege.
Grabbing Wen Yang’s arm, she pulled him towards the kindergarten exit.
“No rush~ Let’s head home first and finish what we started last night.”
