081. The Library
The school library was located on the top floor of the teaching building and was spacious enough to occupy the entire level.
Since the semester started, it was Ning Chu’s first time here.
At the front desk, he used his student ID to get a library card, curiously glancing around as he followed Wen Yang into the towering shelves of books.
The library, of all places, was also a hotspot for Little Emperor Wen’s plots…
In public spaces, it was quiet with only a few people around; the library had a surprisingly high appearance rate in those educational manga and novels.
Ning Chu’s own stories had similar scenes: the protagonist and his current girlfriend seeking thrills brought little toys to the library for a shameful little game.
But he wasn’t too worried about triggering any scenes here. After all, Wen Yang didn’t have a girlfriend at the moment.
This little virgin had no courage for that kind of adventure anyway.
During lunch, the library wasn’t crowded; just a few students milling about.
“So many books…” Ning Chu murmured, lowering his voice as his eyes scanned the shelves. “Where are all the novels? It’s all just reference books.”
“Probably in another section?”
The two wandered aimlessly between the shelves. The collection was eclectic, filled with everything from reference materials to novels, magazines, and comics. Ning Chu even spotted some BL and a Little Emperor Uncle work.
The quality of those doujinshi was quite impressive, to be honest!
But Ning Chu had zero interest in such things these days. Whether it was due to hormones or his lack of progress with girls, this former self-entertaining LSP was nearly a monk now.
In the past two months, the only moments that made his body heat up were fleeting, quickly suppressed by rationality.
Wen Yang picked through the books, settling on a history book, standing still and focused on the pages.
“I’m going to eat… I’m starving…” Ning Chu blabbered, fidgeting next to him. “Let’s go already, what’s so interesting about a history book?”
“I’m interested in it,” Wen Yang smiled, glancing at Ning Chu and suggesting, “Why don’t you head back first?”
“Then I’ll stick around.”
“Don’t worry; if a girl comes looking for me, I’ll just bolt.”
You can’t trust a word that man says!
Just the other day, Wen Yang had looked all innocent and obedient, and then one moment of distraction sent him out for basketball where he nearly got caught off guard! Even with Wen Yang’s empty promises, Ning Chu wasn’t going to leave foolishly.
He understood how easily men got distracted by pretty girls.
So, Ning Chu grabbed a history book too, thinking he might as well check out the historical differences between this world and the one he had come from.
Ugh, it’s giving him a headache… Just looking at the table of contents was enough to make him put the book down.
Why bother reading this when he could just search online?
Noticing Wen Yang engrossed in his book, Ning Chu sighed and shuffled his feet lazily over toward the novel section.
That was way more interesting!
When Wen Yang finally looked up from his pages, he realized Ning Chu had vanished.
He placed the book back on the shelf and turned his attention to another interesting title. However, when he reached for it, someone else’s fingers—long and slender like green onions—reached for the same book from the other side.
Wen Yang was taken aback; the coincidence felt straight out of a drama. He turned to the owner of those fingers and met the cool gaze of a tall girl in a snow-white dress.
This was…
As the class leader, Wen Yang quickly recalled her name.
Lily, the only succubus in class, with a 36D figure and an icy beauty.
Girls like her were a rare breed; rumors surrounded her that only added to her allure. But Lily always maintained her distance, sporting a perpetually cold expression and repelling anyone who dared approach.
The contrast between her rumors and reality made her quite popular in class, discussed in the same breath as Wen Yang, the “class flower” and “class grass.”
Eventually, as they both shone in school, they’d probably level up to the “campus beauty” and “campus handsome.”
“Give it to me,” Lily said coldly, locking eyes with Wen Yang. “I want to look at it first.”
Her voice was notably icy, devoid of any emotion.
“Here you go, here you go.”
Wen Yang immediately gave in, grabbed the book again, and turned to leave the shelf.
Just last night he promised Ning Chu he wouldn’t get involved with girls. He definitely didn’t want to see that poor, sniffling face of Ning Chu hiding under the blankets crying like a little wife upon learning her husband cheated.
He hadn’t stepped away from the history section for long when Ning Chu approached him with a fantasy novel in hand.
“Pick your book? Let’s hurry and get some food!”
As soon as he saw Ning Chu, Wen Yang’s gaze began darting away, as though talking to a girl was a crime. He pretended to look at the library counter, “Alright, I’ll go handle the borrowing process first.”
“I found a book too!” Ning Chu hoisted up his novel, “I think the setting is quite interesting, and the writing style is light and funny.”
What was with that bragging tone?
He sounded like a kid racing off to buy the same toy his friend just got.
Wen Yang couldn’t help but smile and nodded, “The title already sounds interesting; let me borrow it tonight.”
“Just don’t break it, does borrowing cost money?”
“Nope, but you can only borrow one book at a time.” As Wen Yang walked to the counter to register, he suggested, “Let’s come back to the library this weekend? There are plenty of books here; I reckon we won’t finish them in college.”
“Well… that sounds good!”
Compared to going shopping, working part-time, or playing basketball—events that required social interaction—the library had zero social attributes.
And the vixens usually didn’t hang out in libraries, so Wen Yang felt safe here.
After borrowing a book and leaving the library, Ning Chu still felt a bit anxious and glanced around, reminding, “If we’re coming to read this weekend, be back before six.”
“Huh? Why?”
Scared you’ll get drained by a female ghost, you little virgin? The protagonists in the stories are already seasoned veterans, and they’ve barely survived encounters with female ghosts!
“Because… didn’t they say the teaching building is haunted at night?”
Wen Yang shook his head, a mix of laughter and exasperation: “Didn’t we just stroll around? It’s just those couples making noise; where are the ghosts?”
“I…” Unable to get him to believe the truth, Ning Chu quickly invented another excuse, “I’m scared of the dark! Outside of the library, it’s pitch-black!”
That reason fit far too well with his delicate appearance, prompting Wen Yang to accept it without a second thought, even assuming, “No wonder you don’t like going out at night.”
After a little rebellion and escaping a close call with a green tea girl, Wen Yang seemed to be even more obedient toward Ning Chu.
This made Ning Chu feel both happy and worried.
It seemed Wen Yang’s fondness for him just couldn’t diminish!
