138. Tu Junhui’s Dating Requirements
==============================
In the following days, Lin Nan was too embarrassed to face Chen Yao. It was just too d*mn awkward and shameful!
That night, he had no choice but to make up a story about twisting his ankle. I mean, showing up in the doctor’s office cradled by a princess after just a little scrape would’ve been a nuclear disaster! Even with his acting skills, he couldn’t hide the lack of “plot,” and Chen Yao definitely noticed something was amiss.
He keenly sensed Chen Yao’s gaze, suddenly dropped his head, and feigned focus on his phone, looking as innocent as a deer caught in headlights.
But thank the stars, he had unlocked a new magic!
Invisibility! By bending the light around him, he could become invisible. Though that wouldn’t work on infrared cameras or for avoiding fingerprints and footprints, at least he could escape from a street mugger now! Talk about a major upgrade in safety for Lin Nan.
For Li Na, this magic was probably akin to a hyperactive kid bragging about his toy plastic car in front of some rich dude in a Lamborghini.
“It’s Friday, has Li Na confirmed the time?” Chen Yao approached Lin Nan from behind, his attitude towards him unchanged from before.
The problem was Lin Nan felt way too guilty, fearing that he’d been found out, and worried that Chen Yao would think he was causing trouble that night.
“Tomorrow evening at five, back door,” Lin Nan said, unable to look him in the eye. “She said to find an inn on that street by the back door.”
That was the message from Li Na last night, pretty much what he expected. Thank goodness she wasn’t bold enough to drag him to the girls’ dormitory.
“Okay, I’ll follow you. Share your location on your phone so we don’t lose each other.”
Lin Nan nodded enthusiastically and suggested, “Let’s aim for a place close to me. If anything happens, I’ll sh**t you a message.”
“Got it.” While Chen Yao suspected Lin Nan of stirring the pot that night, he couldn’t be bothered to dwell on that now.
The basketball finals would be next Tuesday, and he was being terrorized daily by their team’s gym teacher—no time for distractions!
Just then, Xiong Da peeked over from where he was passing by.
Ever since he started a long-distance relationship, this guy seemed to have lost interest in the world. He’d be playing League of Legends, suddenly taking a break to respond to his girlfriend’s texts.
Lin Nan thought online dating really wasn’t worth all that fuss; after all, the person on the other end could just as easily be a tank—or even not a girl!
“Why do you guys look so mysterious lately?” Xiong Da inquired, curiosity written all over his face, even if he maintained that serene expression.
“Nothing’s up,” Lin Nan quickly glanced towards Tu Junhui’s spot; the guy had mysteriously disappeared from the dorm, likely off visiting someone.
“Is that so?” Xiong Da didn’t press, squatting down to play with a cat.
With him nearby, there was no way to continue that conversation. Chen Yao gave Lin Nan a helpless look and headed off to the bathroom with his clothes.
Lin Nan sighed deeply, feeling the distance grow between him and his roommates, even Tu Junhui seemed to be purposely keeping him at arm’s length. And Chen Yao? If he wasn’t gaming or genuinely busy, he rarely initiated a conversation.
Though he understood this distancing was normal due to his increasingly feminine vibes—if they crowded around him too closely, he’d worry they were after his body. Yet knowing the reason didn’t exactly ease his discomfort.
Xiong Da, however, treated him the same as ever.
Lin Nan stole a glance at him, still playing with the cat, and then grabbed a towel to wipe his face on the balcony.
He always felt drained by nightfall. A splash of water on his face was the only way to keep his eyes from drooping closed. He was only a sophomore, hardly an old man, yet he couldn’t compare to the energy he had during his early teenage years.
It seemed like after running into Lilith, his energy just nosedived. Or maybe it was that passive magic that quickened his reactions… Bottom line, it was all Lilith’s fault.
Chen Yao was quick in the shower; Lin Nan had just finished wiping his face when Chen Yao pushed open the bathroom door, dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, towel in hand, and looking fresh.
The bathroom was so cramped that inevitably, some water splashed onto his clothes.
“Do you think I should take the dorm weapons with me tomorrow?” Chen Yao asked casually, “Like Tu Junhui’s dumbbells?”
“Nah, it won’t come to that.”
Lin Nan rolled his eyes internally; this guy had no sense! If things escalated, carrying a rocket launcher wouldn’t help him against Li Na—what good would a dumbbell do?
He remembered “watching” the only fight between Lilith and Li Na, which was absolutely earth-shattering. On Earth, they’d definitely be packing nuclear-level power!
“True, hitting a girl is a no-go,” Chen Yao mumbled as he trundled back into the dorm.
It was already late, yet the dormitory buzzed with noise. Standing on the balcony, Lin Nan could faintly hear excited shouts from the neighboring dorm about gaming, while the guys across the street had cranked up a karaoke session with raucous howls, lit up by the flicker of phone flashlights—it was almost a party atmosphere.
After lingering on the balcony for a moment, he suddenly heard the dorm door kicked open. Peeking out, he found Tu Junhui strutting in like he just conquered the world.
“I’ve got a girl who likes me now! Haha!”
“What?!” Chen Yao frowned. “Someone confessed to you?”
“Not just anyone!” Tu Junhui pulled out his phone and thrust it at Chen Yao’s face, grinning from ear to ear. “Look! She confessed to me online!”
Chen Yao squinted closer and saw that the girl confessing was quite pretty, visibly taken aback, he exclaimed, “Did you accept?”
“Nope, not my type,” Tu Junhui said, still bouncing with excitement, but shook his head.
Lin Nan walked back into the room to join the chatter. “So what’s your type then? If you keep being picky, you’ll graduate without a girlfriend.”
“Someone who likes me, with some taste…” Tu Junhui said flamboyantly.
“But she does like you!” Xiong Da, still playing with the cat, couldn’t help but chime in.
Tu Junhui shot back angrily, “Even I’m not into her! What kind of taste is that?!”
Isn’t that a loop of nonsense? Just say it—girls aren’t as entertaining as games!
