145. I’m Not That Kind of Person!
==================================
Is Lin Nan having psychological issues?
Chen Yao used to think that Lin Nan was simply a guy experiencing anxiety about becoming a girl and developing some aversion to women’s things and clothing.
But after the Counselor nudged him, he realized that it might not be that simple.
He had known Lin Nan for about seven or eight years, but it was only in the last two months that Lin Nan started exhibiting some rather strange behaviors.
Like, one time, after getting drunk, he suddenly planted a kiss on Chen Yao’s cheek… In the past, Lin Nan would just curl up in a corner and fall asleep when drunk—when did he have the energy to think about kissing someone?
And that was just the beginning! Later, Lin Nan inexplicably spread his arms during a part-time job, expecting Chen Yao to kiss him—though Lin Nan was just trying to get a hug for a task, it was totally misunderstood.
A few days back, after tripping while running—his legs were perfectly fine, yet he somehow convinced Chen Yao to give him a princess carry!
Plus all those increasingly feminine behaviors Lin Nan had been displaying…
Chen Yao originally thought this might just be Lin Nan subconsciously acknowledging his female identity, but after the Counselor mentioned it, he started to feel like something was off.
I mean, who changes their personality so dramatically in just a few months?
He began to suspiciously observe Lin Nan. Over these past weeks, Lin Nan still liked to pretend he was male, lounging with his legs crossed, but today he looked a bit miffed, with cheeks puffed out like a pufferfish.
This combination of feminine and masculine postures was so amusing that Chen Yao didn’t find Lin Nan odd—he just found him cute.
While he used to glance at Lin Nan without really thinking about it, lately he couldn’t help but stare whenever he had a free minute… and wow, the more he looked, the prettier Lin Nan got!
Although Lin Nan had already become quite feminine, recently Chen Yao noticed that his hands and feet seemed even more delicate.
And that face! Compared to Lin Nan’s old photos, his facial features were now much smoother and rounder.
“By the way, when’s our medical examination this afternoon?”
Lin Nan suddenly looked up at him, scaring Chen Yao so much that he quickly bowed down to his phone, terrified of being caught red-handed.
A moment later, Tu Junhui chimed in, “Wasn’t there a notice in the group? We’re supposed to gather downstairs in ten minutes for bl**d tests.”
“Is that so?”
It was already Tuesday, and since Tuesday afternoon was a holiday, Lin Nan had, for the first time in ages, stayed up late until 3 AM last night and was now a bit dazed from sleepiness.
The bl**d test took place in the building’s lobby, and when Lin Nan and his dormmates arrived, they found that Li Na’s class was already lined up for bl**d tests, while his own classmates huddled together, waiting for the Counselor to maintain order.
Lin Nan wasn’t sure if the bl**d test could determine gender, but it didn’t seem likely; after all, people like him were a rare breed.
There wasn’t much to say about the bl**d draw—Lin Nan didn’t have any issues with bl**d or needles, but oddly enough, Tu Junhui, the two hundred-pound man, was terrified of needles.
I mean, come on! This 6’2”, 200-pound guy was howling like a pig about to be slaughtered, crying like a 200-pound child!
Talk about embarrassing…
After the bl**d draw, the doctor checked off the bl**d test section on the examination form, and when Lin Nan looked up, he realized his roommate had wandered off somewhere.
All the other examination items were set up around the building; apart from the bl**d test needing supervision, the rest were just queue-and-check. Once all the sections on the form were filled, they could head home.
The examination rooms were just classrooms that had been slightly remodeled; in Lin Nan’s eyes, they were just for show, a way for the school to pretend they were meeting standards. Honestly, he’d never uncovered anything serious in school check-ups before—maybe a bit of slight nearsightedness in one eye.
However, Lin Nan wasn’t the same old Lin Nan anymore.
Standing tall at 162 cm and weighing 98 jin (around 216 lbs), he used to round up to 170 with shoes, but now that number was a generous 165 even with shoes on.
When he stepped out from the height and weight room, the next door over was for the male internal checkup.
Five people were allowed in at a time, and from what the students coming out said, this check involved pulling up your shirt for a belly poke from the doctor.
Now that was a big problem… it was the one part of the examination that made Lin Nan the most anxious.
He glanced toward the male internal examination room, then over to the female one next door which seemed to admit only one person at a time…
He looked left and right, but eventually decided to opt for checking other items first, hoping to gather a few roommates or acquaintances to join him.
Or maybe he could just slip into the girls’ group?!
He glanced at his examination form—yup, the name and gender sections were still blank. He was being strategic, preparing for any unexpected surprises during this examination.
Aside from the internal examination, if the school threw in a new requirement for stripping down or any overt gender identification, he’d have a backup plan!
So, on he went, even if feeling a bit embarrassed, it was way better than having a middle-aged male doctor lift his shirt and poke his belly while everyone else looked on.
Thus, he lowered his head and tiptoed into the girl’s line, pretending to be engrossed in his phone, worried about being recognized by his classmates.
The air was filled with giggles and chatter from the girls, but unlike Lin Nan’s expectations of them talking about cosmetics or celebrities, they were more into mobile games and “pubg” or “Honor of Kings”.
But of course, when you’re scared, that’s when things go wrong.
Just five minutes into the queue, perhaps because the bl**d tests had wrapped up, Lin Nan noticed a group of classmates laughing and chatting as they approached the entrance to the height measurement room next door.
Panic-stricken, he quickly turned sideways, presenting his back to the group.
I’m just a background character in class; nobody should be able to recognize me from my back, right?
Just as he thought this, a hand suddenly clapped on his shoulder, making Lin Nan jump so hard he almost dropped his phone, but luckily he managed to catch it in time.
Not daring to look back, he asked in a mix of trepidation and bravado, “What’s up?!”
“Lin Nan? You’re in the wrong line.”
That voice sounded oddly familiar, and Lin Nan’s face froze instantly. Cautiously he turned his head to see the Counselor grinning at him.
Wait, didn’t Chen Yao call him ZHENG Dao?
Lin Nan’s face turned beet red, and he stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
If Chen Yao discovered anything, he could still explain—after all, Chen Yao knew his situation, but this Counselor…
“You seem to have some serious psychological issues…” The Counselor chuckled, looking at him with those sparkly eyes, half-jokingly added, “If some underwear goes missing from the girls’ dorm, you’re definitely my prime suspect!”
“I’m not like that!”
