# Is This the Kind of Counselor You Are?
Zheng Qian rarely spent time in the school office. After all, being a counselor felt more like a side gig or an internship, and he was just a second-year graduate student, not exactly a seasoned pro.
The counselor’s job was tedious; he had to handle almost everything related to students—from their mental health issues down to what they ate for breakfast. Initially, he thought of being a counselor as a part-time role, but it seemed like grad school was more of a side hustle for him.
“Final exams are coming up, and students still want to take leave. Don’t they worry about not getting their diplomas?”
Early that morning, the school leaders summoned all counselors for a meeting. Zheng Qian reluctantly trudged out of the dormitory when he felt his phone buzz. Looking down, he saw a message from a student.
“Want to live off-campus?” He blinked, taken aback. Last September, when school started, quite a few students had made this request, all of which he had swiftly denied. It was surprising to find someone still asking for it now.
He checked the contact, and it was a student named Lin Nan.
That name sounded familiar… After a little mental digging, he recalled her face, which could easily rival any girl in looks.
He had seen Lin Nan last month during a medical exam, but he had been so busy that he mostly communicated through the class group chat. The students he saw most often were the two class monitors—a boy and a girl—so he had kind of forgotten about Lin Nan.
“Nope,” he replied curtly.
“Are you free? I need to talk,” came the swift reply.
Is she trying to flirt with me?
Zheng Qian rubbed his smoothly shaven chin. He knew that this kind of plot twist was pretty much impossible, but he resignedly replied.
“Come to my office.”
He planned to head to the office anyway to sort out some student paperwork.
Yawning, he realized that even though he was now a counselor, he still couldn’t shake off his lazy habits. Back in his college days, he often skipped classes, and now he was daydreaming about skipping work.
As he approached the office, he spotted Lin Nan waiting for him.
“Didn’t I tell you to go to the office?”
“I was already in the office when I texted you.”
Zheng Qian sensed that something was off with Lin Nan. From their previous interactions, he knew she was a bit introverted and shy, but today she looked expressionless, radiating a vibe of total indifference to life.
Lin Nan’s mood was written all over her face—“I’m not happy” in big neon letters. Anyone could see it.
She wanted to hand Zheng Qian the fake medical report that Li Na had prepared, but she feared she might be discriminated against or treated differently. She had only exchanged a few words with him, which left her unsure of his mentality.
“I want to live off-campus,” Lin Nan stated frankly.
She actually had a good impression of Zheng Qian, mainly because of his name.
“The school has rules. Unless you’re a senior interning or live nearby, it’s a no-go.” Zheng Qian briefly paused upon seeing Lin Nan but continued toward the office, delivering a lecture, “What if something happens to you off-campus? Can I take responsibility?”
“I won’t get into any trouble.” Lin Nan hurried after him, desperately trying to talk him out of it. “What if I sign a liability waiver? I just want to stay off-campus, right behind the school! My friend rents there, and I’ll share with her.”
“No way.” Zheng Qian glanced back at Lin Nan. While he thought her anxious demeanor was kind of cute, he didn’t want to break school rules. He adopted a serious look, “Gifts won’t work. It’s class time; hurry back.”
Lin Nan was restless. Having embraced her new feminine charm, she felt even less inclined to stay in the dorm.
In a panic, she blurted, “With my looks, what if I get jumped by someone in the dorm? Won’t you still be implicated?”
Zheng Qian stopped dead in his tracks, taking a thorough look at this student—who was even prettier than the average girl.
While Lin Nan’s concern seemed improbable, it wasn’t entirely outside the realm of possibility.
“Then why don’t you cut your hair? Stop dressing like that?”
What’s wrong with how I look! This is just boy’s attire! My hair is a disaster! What can I do if I look so delicate?!
Lin Nan felt utterly helpless. If it weren’t for her predicament, she wouldn’t dream of using any charm magic.
As they walked into the teaching building, the halls were empty since it was class time, revealing only a distant janitor emptying the trash bins.
Feeling bold, she dashed ahead, blocking Zheng Qian’s path.
“What now? I told you it’s a no. Go back to class.” Zheng Qian stared at her beautiful face as he stuffed his hands into his pockets, “Others have tried to bribe me before, and it didn’t work. You come empty-handed—do you really think I’d say yes?”
“So…?”
“So bribing doesn’t work!” Although Zheng Qian rather liked gifts—who doesn’t?—he still tried to maintain a serious expression.
Fine.
Lin Nan realized this counselor was impossible to sway.
She had thought about being cute and playful, but this counselor didn’t look like the type to entertain a pretty boy… At least, that’s how he saw her.
“Zheng, look into my eyes.”
“?” Zheng Qian was about to scold her but instinctively glanced into Lin Nan’s starry eyes, suddenly feeling his brain go blank.
Magic, charm.
Lin Nan was not in the mood to delay, so she directly used her magic.
The charm spell was originally intended for her mother to persuade her to postpone or avoid getting surgery. Unfortunately, it only made her mother drift into a deep sleep.
And this was her first time using it on a male.
According to Lilith’s memories, a male charmed by this spell would hopelessly fall in love with her within half an hour and agree to anything.
Zheng Qian, being a counselor, must be at least somewhat principled and ideologically sound. He wouldn’t give in to this charm in half an hour…
Feeling a bit nervous and unsure, she thought about escaping but anxiously awaited his reaction.
After a moment, Zheng Qian’s once-dazed eyes finally regained focus. When he saw Lin Nan again, somehow, she looked even more beautiful, more appealing—beyond gender to the point where he was utterly captivated…
No, wait. She’s a guy.
He sighed heavily: “No matter what, you can’t live off-campus!”
Lin Nan was stunned.
Is the magic not working? But every guy in Lilith’s tales was a total pushover under this charm!
“Or how about this? You can just stay with me. The graduate dorms are single rooms.”
“???”
Counselor, is this the kind of person you are?!
