### Chapter 231: Afternoon Nap
Chen Yao’s home had a layout of two rooms and a living room, probably around seventy to eighty square meters, if Lin Nan remembered correctly. This was probably the place Chen Yao bought during high school.
The house wasn’t exactly spacious, but with so few rooms, Chen Yao’s bedroom seemed oddly huge to Lin Nan, especially since it even had a tiny bathroom inside.
After a few rounds of gaming, Lin Nan quickly began to feel drowsy.
While at her grandfather’s place, there were hardly any entertainment options, so she had developed a habit of napping for two hours in the afternoon. Now, visiting Chen Yao’s home, she found it impossible to escape this newly formed routine.
“Sleepy?”
Chen Yao caught the sound of her yawning.
“A bit…”
Lin Nan rubbed her eyes sleepily. “If I take a nap, Auntie should be back, right?”
“Pretty much.”
With that affirmative response, Lin Nan stretched and hurriedly climbed onto Chen Yao’s bed, unceremoniously shooing him away. “You get down! This bed is now under my command!”
Now, that’s what you call a bossy guest!
Chen Yao rolled his eyes and plopped down on the wooden floor with his laptop, turning to look at Lin Nan sprawled on the bed, sporting a slight smirk.
“Your bed is so soft…” Lin Nan rolled around a few times on the cushy mattress, clearly relishing it.
At least it was a far cry from the wooden plank beds at her school dorm, her own home, or even her grandfather’s place, which had zero softness.
And the mattress at the rental apartment? Absolute trash!
“As long as you like it.” Chen Yao snapped back to reality, resting his chin on the bed, zoning in on Lin Nan as she futzed around with her outerwear.
Suddenly, Lin Nan looked warily at him, quickly wrapping her coat back around herself. “What are you doing?”
“What could I possibly do?” Chen Yao gave her a blank stare and got up to grab a bamboo mat from the wardrobe. “I’m just going to sleep on the floor for my nap.”
“Honestly, why not just wait until tomorrow to leave? There’s a high school reunion, don’t you want to see the class teacher?” Chen Yao asked while prepping his makeshift bed.
Lin Nan shook her head. She definitely didn’t want to share a room with Chen Yao for the night.
It wasn’t that she was worried about what might happen; she just feared that after one night, both his parents and her relatives would misunderstand something again.
“I’ll just sleep on the sofa tonight.”
“In the dead of winter…”
She glanced out at the dreary sky. Today’s temperature had plummeted to around five degrees. While she wasn’t cold, the blankets were icy and damp, and with the usual gloomy, rainy weather, this was definitely not the season for comfort.
At least she was fine; Chen Yao didn’t have magic. Sleeping on the sofa in this chill could lead to a nasty cold.
She casually shed her outerwear, folded it neatly on the bedside table, and pulled up Chen Yao’s blanket. For some reason, her drowsiness faded a little.
There was a scent of Chen Yao in the pillow and blankets…
A familiar, fresh aroma mixed with a hint of tobacco that made Lin Nan a bit light-headed.
Her face inexplicably warmed up, and she found herself fidgeting on the bed.
So gross…
Lin Nan was really resistant to the physiological responses of being a girl, but her body and mind were heading towards an uncontrollable direction.
“Why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
Lin Nan’s constant shifting was keeping Chen Yao awake, so he propped himself up, curiosity piqued. He noticed her skin flushing slightly, with beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
“Nothing…”
She didn’t realize her voice was soft and sultry, her gaze somewhat dazed as she stared at the ceiling.
“You’re not getting a cold from the draft, are you?” Chen Yao frowned and opened the drawer of the bedside table, pulling out a thermometer to hand to her. “Here, take your temperature. If there’s a problem, we need to rush to the hospital.”
“I said it’s nothing!” Lin Nan’s tone suddenly shifted to an aggressive one. She yanked the covers off and dashed to the bathroom.
“???”
Chen Yao watched in bafflement as she splashed cold water on her face in the bathroom.
What on earth was happening?
He glared at his phone’s clock, realizing it was the end of the month.
If he remembered correctly, Lin Nan’s relatives might be arriving soon?
Was she just ahead of schedule?!
Suddenly enlightened, he rushed back to the kitchen and grabbed two packs of feminine hygiene products.
When Chen Yao returned to the bedroom, he found Lin Nan had lost her flushed complexion entirely and was now sprawled out on the floor.
“Do you need this?” Chen Yao approached and squatted down, waving the items he’d brought.
“No!”
Lin Nan was too tired to bother with him, her tone livid like she’d just bitten into a lemon.
“Well then, at least cover yourself with a blanket?” he ventured.
“No, thanks!” Lin Nan rolled over, facing the wall, avoiding letting Chen Yao see her expression.
She knew that becoming a girl would trigger some reactions regarding boys, but now that it was actually happening, Lin Nan had no idea how to deal with it.
The mental rejection made her absolutely unable to accept the hot flush of her cheeks and racing heart.
“I don’t get you at all.” Chen Yao muttered, watching Lin Nan’s back as she seemed to drift into slumber. With a sigh, he laid down on the bed, adjusting his pillow haphazardly.
Lin Nan’s lingering fragrance… but today, it smelled significantly less milky and more floral.
Not long after, he heard Lin Nan’s slightly heavy breathing.
Concerned she might catch a cold, he crept closer to check on her lying flat on the floor, then gently draped his blanket over her.
That should keep her cozy, right?
Sitting beside her, legs crossed, he supported his chin with one hand as he took in her delicate features.
Just then, the door was knocked on, and moments later, Auntie peeked in. Upon seeing Lin Nan lying on the floor and Chen Yao sitting alongside her, her eyes nearly popped out of her head.
“What on earth are you doing letting her sleep on the floor?!” Auntie hissed under her breath.
She had planned to take Lin Nan to get her ears pierced, but that clearly wouldn’t be happening now.
“What could I do if she didn’t want to sleep on the bed? Maybe she thinks my bed’s dirty?” Chen Yao shrugged, then asked, “What about the electric scooter?”
“I specially fixed the tire.”
She gestured an ‘OK’ sign, then pulled her head back and shut the door.
