236. High School Classmates
==============================
Auntie brought over clothes that mostly matched Lin Nan’s requirements.
Long pants, long sleeves, with minimal flashy designs that wouldn’t scream “too girly.”
Even though she had been enjoying pretty skirts since transforming into a girl, emotionally she just couldn’t get over that hurdle yet.
Moreover, the bras Auntie brought fit surprisingly well—better than any she’d bought herself.
Since there were no complaints, Auntie trimmed the labels and tossed everything into the washing machine. Lin Nan felt a bit overwhelmed by Auntie’s kindness; while these outfits weren’t designer, they weren’t exactly cheap either. Combined, they probably cost over a thousand yuan!
The more Auntie doted on her, the more anxious Lin Nan became.
When she woke up, it was already close to nine and after trying on clothes and tidying up, it was lunchtime.
Today’s lunch was Western food—Wellington steaks and pan-fried fish fillets made by Chen Yao’s dad, along with some lovely salad for nutrition balance.
Finally, Lin Nan understood what Chen Yao meant by “gathering.”
“Chen Yao, didn’t you say to invite Lin Nan along?”
A familiar voice of a high school classmate came from her phone. Lin Nan restrained her curiosity and avoided looking over, afraid of being found out.
“Lin Nan said she’s busy at noon.” Chen Yao waved a glass of juice at the phone screen, “Come on, cheers! Let’s rank in the afternoon.”
Being at home, Chen Yao didn’t dare drink in front of his parents, fearing they might knock him out.
This gathering had shifted to an online format…
Originally planned to be an in-person meal, they had to change it last minute due to the sudden strict regulations in the area—a ban on dining in restaurants. After some discussion, they decided to do it this way instead.
Lin Nan glanced up at Uncle and Auntie, sensing they were looking at their son like he was a fool.
Lunch was just as satisfying as usual. After finishing in half an hour, Lin Nan comfortably returned to Chen Yao’s bedroom, but couldn’t resist the urge to take a shower.
The bathroom in the bedroom only had a toilet; to take a shower, she had to use the one in the living room.
But all her clothes were tossed in the washing machine. The weather was lovely, but she’d have to wait until evening to take a shower and change outfits.
A day without showering felt unbearable.
Sitting in front of Chen Yao’s computer, she curiously clicked on a Japanese character in the media player.
Yup, just as she thought—one of those things.
With a grimace, she quickly closed it.
While she knew guys needed this kind of content, ever since turning into a girl, she found herself feeling disgusted by it.
Chen Yao returned after finishing his meal, yawning as he plopped down beside Lin Nan, resting his chin on his hand. “Later, I’m ranking with high school classmates, you’ve gotta let me use your computer for the whole afternoon.”
“Can I use your laptop instead?”
“Sure, but when we’re on mic, it’s best if you don’t say anything, okay?”
“Got it.”
Lin Nan nodded and opened a beauty video, beginning to watch in a bemused silence.
Chen Yao was surprised, “Are you planning to learn how to do makeup?”
“Just picking up a bit… I gotta learn something…” Lin Nan mumbled, “otherwise, if my skin looks bad later, I won’t know how to cover it up.”
She had never been this concerned about skin quality before—just as long as it wasn’t greasy, she was good.
“My mom’s actually pretty good at makeup, if you want to learn, you can ask her.”
“First, let me recognize the makeup essentials…”
Lin Nan used to be a straight-up bro; she couldn’t name all the skincare products—she only knew one type of face wash.
After watching a video, Lin Nan stood up to give Chen Yao her spot, turning to grab her towel and heading toward the living room bathroom.
Even without clothes to change into, she had to take a shower; otherwise, she would feel miserable.
Honestly, she didn’t feel particularly dirty; it was just a mental thing—she felt after a day of not showering, her skin had to have accumulated some grime.
“Are you going to shower?”
Auntie walked out of the bedroom but paused, then turned back in to get Lin Nan a set of pajamas she rarely wore, saying, “Seeing as you don’t have anything to change into, you can wear this after your shower.”
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Lin Nan took the pajamas, her eyelids twitching a little, but it was acceptable enough.
The pajamas were fluffy, a pink onesie resembling a cat, complete with a hood that had cat ears. Lin Nan had seen someone in the dorm corridor wearing a similar dinosaur onesie, so she had no strong objections to this one.
It was just a tad too girly, but hey, Auntie was in her forties and still sporting a youthful heart!
“Auntie’s gone out to buy groceries.”
“Make sure to get enough to last at home; don’t go shopping every day…” Lin Nan expressed rare concern.
“It’s fine, Auntie will be careful.” She said, putting on a mask and swimming goggles, then draping herself in a raincoat and topping it off with a motorcycle helmet.
It was basically the most rigorous safeguard a normal person could manage.
She smiled at Lin Nan and added, “Just toss your dirty clothes in the balcony basin; I’ll wash them when I get back.”
Lin Nan was now relieved. If Auntie could get infected, then the streets would be crawling with sick people.
Mostly because Lilith didn’t know any healing magic; otherwise, Auntie’s antics wouldn’t matter.
After watching Auntie leave through the door, Lin Nan hugged her clothes and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
The bathroom setup was designed to keep wet and dry areas separate; without a bathtub, Lin Nan’s dreams of soaking were dashed. She took a quick rinse, dried off, and slipped into the cat onesie.
It was pretty cute…
She murmured to herself, tidied up the bathroom, and went out to the balcony to wash some clothes.
Even though Chen Yao’s mom said she didn’t need to, it felt a bit overboard to make Auntie do the laundry—after all, she was the guest.
Once she finished her chores and returned to the room, Chen Yao happened to wrap up a game.
Hearing the door open, he turned and froze, staring at Lin Nan, who was now dressed like a cat.
“Pretty cute,” he complimented, playfully putting Lin Nan’s hood on and covering her messy hair, revealing just her sweet face. With the outfit, she really looked like a catgirl.
Too bad it was a cat onesie and not a catgirl costume…
Chen Yao was filled with regret.
Lin Nan didn’t mind him getting hands-on, curiously peering at the computer screen to check his last game results.
“You’re so bad that you could lose in a Platinum match with these folks,” Lin Nan remarked, but then a loud voice from the computer speakers startled her.
“Whoa! Chen Yao, why’s there a girl’s voice on your end?!”
Lin Nan nearly toppled off her chair.
“Chen Yao, you said you were single! Send me a picture of your sister-in-law, or just turn on your webcam!”
Chen Yao wanted to explain, but Lin Nan snatched the microphone, shouting, “Zhu Yong Wen! It’s me, Lin Nan!”
On the computer was Lin Nan’s high school deskmate, someone she used to get along with well, but unfortunately, he had flunked third year and had to repeat, and she had no idea where he ended up now.
“What? Lin Nan? Whoa, are you heading to Thailand or something? Your voice sounds all girly now; when are you going to come out and play?”
“Seriously, you blockhead, you still dare to go out and play?”
Lin Nan was using the pandemic as an excuse; she absolutely refused to meet up with her old classmates from high school.
