311. The Blame-Game Hero

In fact, what Chen Yao said wasn’t just empty talk.
Although Lin Nan had been oblivious before, she was still a man at one point.
Now that she was on high alert, she glanced over at the boys in her class and quickly spotted a few students staring at her.

To be honest, she hated that kind of gaze. Any guy throwing around that kind of look was clearly thinking with his lower half.
In simpler terms, they were just drooling over her body.

A shiver ran down Lin Nan’s spine, and without hesitation, she inched closer to Chen Yao.
She glanced up at him and found that he was actually giving her the same kind of sneaky look.
She looked down at her oversized T-shirt, and from Chen Yao’s angle, he probably caught a glimpse of something.
Her face flushed, and she felt waves of embarrassment hitting her brain. She gave Chen Yao a glare: “Do you want me to poke your eyes out?!”
“Sure, sure,” Chen Yao answered without skipping a beat, his gaze drifting to Lilith in the distance.
Those long legs…
“Maybe I should just poke them out anyway…”
After taking a lap around, the PE teacher finished his jog and, back at the starting point, organized the boys and girls into two separate groups.
Reluctantly, Lin Nan left Chen Yao’s side and joined the girls, hesitating as she looked at the neatly arranged lineup, unsure of where to stand.
“Nan Nan!” Lin Kexin waved at her softly.
She hurried over. Among the sea of girls, Lin Kexin was the only one she had chatted with.
As Lin Nan reached her place, Lin Kexin moved aside to let her in the lineup.
“Nan Nan, so you and Chen Yao are an item?”
Just as Lin Nan stood straight, Lin Kexin leaned in and whispered.
What does “an item” even mean?
Lin Nan rolled her eyes silently and nodded her head.
“Chen Yao is pretty handsome, huh? Did you really snag him? What about Lin Yuan? Do you know if he has a girlfriend?”
Though Lin Kexin was extroverted, she wasn’t as loud and rowdy as Lin Nan’s cousin. She kept her voice low when talking to Lin Nan.
But is Chen Yao handsome? How would I know if Lin Yuan has a girlfriend?
Lin Nan turned her head towards Chen Yao, who was standing with the teacher, tilting it slightly. After a moment of evaluation, she had to admit that the guy was a smidge more handsome than she remembered.
It was mainly due to his good physique; he looked full of energy.
For some reason, the more she looked, the better he seemed… She quickly snapped her gaze away.
“What was it like living in the boys’ dorm?” Lin Kexin asked again.
Lin Nan couldn’t grasp Lin Kexin’s train of thought at all—how did they go from guys to the boys’ dorm? She could only shake her head in confusion, staring at the girl with a blank gaze.
The PE teacher started assigning today’s tasks: girls would run 800 meters, and boys would do 1000 meters. After that, they could have free time, whether returning to the dorm or going out to play was up to them.
Lin Nan had usually just called roll and then followed her roommates back to the dorm to game.
Back then, her dorm was on the fourth floor, and sometimes she couldn’t even be bothered to show up for roll call; she just had PE monitor Chen Yao check her off.
Eight hundred meters…
Lin Nan sighed heavily. Although it was 200 meters shorter than before, she still felt like her wobbly legs wouldn’t make it through two laps.
She remembered the time when she’d run at night; she knew that after one lap, she’d be completely wiped out.
Lin Kexin seemed eager for Lin Nan to fit into her circle, and while tugging at Lin Nan’s hand, she rambled on: “Let’s run together later! If you run slowly, I’ll just follow you!”
“What kind of skincare products are you using?”
“Nah, you don’t have any hair on your arms! Did you get laser hair removal or something?”
Lin Nan was utterly baffled, her brain struggling to keep up with this girl’s train of thought.
Moments later, Lin Nan found herself standing at the starting line alongside a group of girls.
Today, the sun was beating down harder than usual. Even though they hadn’t done much exercise yet, most of the girls were already sweating beads. Lin Nan could definitely smell the faint aroma wafting from them.
Or maybe it was just the smell of sweat.
Lin Nan sniffed her arm and could only catch the scent of her body wash.
“Get ready to run; don’t zone out,” Lin Kexin tugged at Lin Nan’s shirt.
Just as Lin Nan snapped back to reality, she noticed that the dozen or so girls beside her had already shot off the starting line. She blinked in surprise, then hurried to catch up.
She used to stand handing out flyers on Student Street for whole afternoons, but that didn’t magically build her calf muscles, so after a mere 200 meters, the familiar feelings of fatigue and soreness hit her.
Breathing became labored as she barely kept up with the group, but after one lap, her legs were uncontrollably slowing down.
Her physical condition was definitely pathetic.
“Can you make it?” Lin Kexin fell back with Lin Nan and asked softly.
After that one lap, Lin Nan was too busy gasping for air to have time to respond.
Her legs grew heavier, her knees felt like jelly, and her nose and mouth dried out, every breath punctuated by sharp pain.
Her legs started to feel numb, as if they were running on autopilot.
Lin Nan shot a glance at Lin Kexin beside her. The girl looked just as unfit as she did, yet she seemed to be managing just fine.
Come on! I was a man at one point!
If it weren’t for Lilith’s words! After three laps, I wouldn’t be a complete wreck!
Thinking about Lilith, Lin Nan suddenly became alert and looked up to scan the area. Eventually, she spotted Lilith standing right in front of her, arms crossed and appraising her with a mischievous grin.
Before her brain could even process the thought, she saw Lilith extend her leg with a gleam of mischief in her eyes.
Lin Nan could easily step on the brakes or leap over it with her reflexes.
Besides, the track was wide enough; it would be strange for Lilith’s little legs to trip anyone.
Lin Nan silently scoffed at Lilith’s intelligence in her mind, planning to run around her. But for some reason, her calves suddenly lost their strength, her mind went blank, and she just lunged forward, crashing to the ground.
She thought she could hear Chen Yao’s shocked voice from a distance.
Lilith was stunned, glancing at her own extended leg and then at Lin Nan, who was at least a meter away. There was no way she could have imagined that without her magic, she’d still be a hazard from afar!
But seeing this, her eyes lit up. She rolled up her sleeves, cursing, and stormed over to get two kicks in: “That’s what you get for slandering me! And for feeding me cat food!”
“Lilith!” Li Na, who had been playing on her phone nearby, noticed her actions and immediately rushed over, grabbing her arm. “What’s wrong with you?!”
“!!”
She nodded vigorously, as if trying to dig herself out of a hole.
“Why are you hitting Lin Nan?!” Li Na grilled her.
Lilith was baffled; she just wanted to scare her, not actually do anything!
