I Don’t Want to Be Turned into a Girl by Magic – Chapter 386

391. Big Dog’s New Shop

==============================

Lin Nan finally snagged a grand from Kang De for Lilith’s food allowance.

Looks like money’s in the air again!

Having a cheap son who can lend a hand at crucial times is just fantastic.

Had she known Kang De would rake in cash like this, she would have boldly admitted being his mother and sent him off to work earlier—after all, being called “Mom” or “Dad” isn’t such a bad deal.

For the past few mornings around seven or eight, Lilith would run in with the cat, clamoring for breakfast—never missing a meal. But now that she had cash, she didn’t bother Lin Nan anymore.

On the second day of the May Day holiday, Lin Nan finally got to sleep in.

She woke up in a blur at noon, finding two comforters piled on top of her, while Chen Yao was already awake, sitting at the foot of the bed playing on his computer.

Glancing at the clock, Lin Nan turned to Chen Yao and asked, “Did we have lunch yet? Or are we cooking?”

Chen Yao’s cooking skills were decent, and cooking at home meant they could make whatever they wanted—unlike the limitations of takeout.

Though, the smoke from frying could be a bit overwhelming.

Once they had some money, renting a normal little apartment with two bedrooms and a kitchen would be the plan.

“We’re heading to Big Dog’s place for lunch. Did you forget? It’s half price!” Chen Yao said, glued to his computer as he edited his video.

Unfortunately, the hype for LOL wasn’t what it used to be—like two years ago, and it was getting harder for video creators to break through. Chen Yao could make some pocket money with his videos, but making a living was still tough.

Just a few extra bucks here and there.

“My mom sent me three thousand,” Chen Yao announced.

Lin Nan rolled onto her side, yawning, “Gotta save some cash this month, tuck some away. Graduation’s coming, and I want it to be easy.”

“I know, that was just an impulse buy yesterday…” Chen Yao chuckled wryly.

Impulse buying was one thing; not satisfying Lin Nan was the real headache.

He stood up and left the bedroom, and Lin Nan, still yawning, got up and changed out of her pajamas into her regular clothes.

She had partied hard until two in the morning last night, and now it was already noon—her stomach was growling.

After changing and freshening up, she didn’t bother with makeup and followed Chen Yao out of the rental apartment.

Big Dog’s milk tea shop was only a few hundred meters away, and when they arrived, they found a bunch of classmates already inside.

Tu Junhui and Xiong Da were already there, sipping milk tea and glued to their phones, completely oblivious to the newcomers.

“Come on in! Come on in!” Big Dog greeted them with his usual enthusiasm.

Lin Nan took a look around the shop and turned to ask him, “Really half price?”

“Of course! Would I lie? If it weren’t for the fact that you guys might feel awkward, I’d just treat you all for free,” Big Dog said with a big grin.

“Then let’s make it free!” Lin Nan exclaimed, “Why not take the freebies?”

Chen Yao couldn’t help but laugh, quickly changing the subject, “Two cups of coconut milk tea, and two servings of spaghetti. Your menu is all over the place!”

“The menu isn’t set yet; I just want to try a bunch of stuff. If no one eats it, we’ll take it off!” Big Dog said with a nod, “You guys take a seat; I gotta get busy.”

Once Lin Nan and Chen Yao settled next to Tu Junhui, the guy suddenly noticed them.

“I’ve been here for half an hour with Xiong Da,” he handed his phone over to Lin Nan, “Help me do a ten pull; I see your face is lucky.”

“Do one for me too!” Xiong Da added, pushing his phone toward Lin Nan.

She gladly accepted; she enjoyed lotteries, but sadly most times she just ended up being a chump—back when she played Hearthstone, she could only get the guaranteed orange cards.

“SSR girl skin, just like you said before,” she reminded Xiong Da, taking both their phones and warning, “My luck hasn’t been great, so don’t blame me if it’s bad.”

Xiong Da shrugged, deadpan, “This game doesn’t even have SSRs. That’s for Arknights, alright? You need to pull for a seven-star operator if you want me in girl skin.”

Seven-star operator?

Lin Nan hadn’t played much of that mobile game type, but she’d heard of SSRs like during the height of Onmyoji a couple of years back. It seemed like it was the best tier for game cards. Arknights was hot too, but she hadn’t looked into it.

She hit the ten-pull button, and Xiong Da leaned in, his usually calm face showing slight changes.

“Only a six-star…”

“Non-chump,” Xiong Da sighed, quickly snatching his phone back before Lin Nan could figure out the game.

Tu Junhui was bouncing beside them, “Help me do a ten pull too! If I get a seven-star, I’ll wear girl skin, no joke!”

“Eh?”

Lin Nan felt something was off, confusion clear on her face, but she went ahead and did a ten pull for Tu Junhui—another six-star.

“Wow, you’re really a non-chump!” Tu Junhui spat, reclaiming his phone, muttering as he happily continued to rant, “I might as well have pulled it myself.”

“I told you my luck stinks…” Lin Nan pouted, feeling a bit wronged, “If it goes bad, don’t blame me.”

Chen Yao pondered if he should let Lin Nan try her luck with CSGO case openings. Maybe she could pull a kn*fe or gloves worth a few thousand, or—imagine if she got a souvenir Dragon Lore! That could be worth a fortune!

In reality, the shop wasn’t packed; most of the customers were just buddies lured in by Big Dog’s half-off offer. They didn’t plan on milking the deal too hard—just a milk tea, chatting, or gaming while using the wifi, adding some buzz to Big Dog’s tea shop.

Lin Nan’s spaghetti came up quickly, and she forgot her earlier frustration as she dug in, glancing through the glass door outside.

She noticed Lilith seeming to pass by the shop multiple times.

Every time, she was carrying snacks as if the cash had gone to her head.

Moments later, Lilith strolled by the milk tea shop again, ice cream in one hand, a pancake in the other, and her pocket even had half a burger peeking out.

She paused, looking up at the shop’s sign with curiosity.

Big Dog, spotting a potential customer, dashed outside with his usual flair, “Hey there, beautiful! We just opened today—want a milk tea?”

“And we also have fried chicken burgers, spaghetti, hot dogs…”

Lilith, hearing that, showed zero interest and turned to leave.

“Everything is eight-eight percent off!”

She stopped in her tracks, smiling brightly as she followed Big Dog inside, completely unaware that Lin Nan was sitting in the corner, hidden behind Tu Junhui.

As soon as she sat down, she slammed the menu down and announced, “Bring me everything on the menu! Except drinks!”

Big Dog was left dumbfounded: “Can you even finish that?”

“If I finish, do I get more discounts?” Lilith asked, looking back at him.

Before Big Dog could respond, she noticed two people beside her holding their phones up.

Lin Nan was all excited, “Lilith, just focus on eating; don’t mind me. We just wanna take some random pictures.”

“???”
