421. Worse Than Beasts!
==============================
As the chilly late night breeze blew, Lin Nan’s groggy brain finally started to clear up a bit.
Suddenly, she realized Chen Yao’s words were exceptionally cheesy, and her already flushed face, thanks to the alcohol, seemed to turn an even deeper shade of red.
She felt a bit restless and propped herself up on Chen Yao’s thigh, trying to stand up.
“Don’t fall over!” Chen Yao quickly steadied her, glancing back along the path and noticing that Tu Junhui and Xiong Da had mysteriously vanished into thin air.
Those two probably didn’t want to be the third wheel.
“Should I carry you?” He carefully grasped Lin Nan’s delicate, almost boneless arm, which was so slender and pale that he worried he might break her if he applied too much force.
“No, I can walk by myself,” Lin Nan declared as she attempted to shake off Chen Yao’s support. However, her strength was nearly nonexistent, and after one feeble attempt, she shot him a glare. “Let go of me!”
With a gentle sigh, Chen Yao released her hand, but then, out of nowhere, he squatted down, hooked her leg, and lifted her up in a classic princess carry.
Her sluggish mind didn’t register the change right away, and by the time Lin Nan realized she was being carried like royalty, all resistance faded away.
“You really need to quit drinking from now on, got it?” Chen Yao remarked, feeling that Lin Nan had become even lighter in his arms, making it easier to carry her as he walked. “You can’t have a single drop of alcohol in the future!”
“Why not?”
“I quit smoking.”
Lin Nan frowned. “But you never had a smoking habit in the first place.”
“That’s not the point! It’s like saying you definitely have a drinking problem. Just think about it—what if you get drunk and I’m not around? Who will take care of you?”
Lin Nan’s frown deepened, and a hint of annoyance flared on her beautiful face. “So where were you then?!”
“Huh?” Chen Yao looked down at Lin Nan’s irritated face, completely baffled by her anger.
“How could you not be right next to me?” Lin Nan poked his cheek with her finger, puffing up her cheeks in accusation. “Are you trying to break up with me?”
She was poking his cheek hard enough to leave a mark, but Chen Yao just found it amusing and helplessly explained to his girlfriend, “For instance, if you’re out eating barbecue by yourself, would I necessarily be there?”
His girlfriend looked incredibly cute when drunk, although her thought process was clearly twisted.
“You weren’t there, so I wouldn’t be drinking…,” Lin Nan mumbled unhappily before yawning and resting her head on Chen Yao’s shoulder, burying her face in his shirt.
“You need to stop drinking even when I’m around, that way when I’m not here, you won’t feel like drinking at all.”
Chen Yao said that, but when he looked down, he realized Lin Nan had closed her eyes, leaning against his shoulder, possibly fast asleep.
Concerned that the chilly air could give Lin Nan a cold, he tightened his grip a little and sped up toward the rental apartment.
About ten minutes later, he arrived at the front door, but with Lin Nan in his arms, he couldn’t spare a hand to open it.
Lin Nan was already snoring, with a slight smile and a crease between her brows, as if she were struggling through some complicated dream.
“Wake up, we’re home,” Chen Yao gently shook her.
Having barely fallen asleep, Lin Nan quickly woke up, her drowsy eyes blinking as she stared up at his big face.
“Up close, your face… is so ugly,” Lin Nan complained, pinching Chen Yao’s skin. “You need skincare!”
“Sure, sure, you’re naturally beautiful. Now get down and let me open the door.”
Chen Yao felt helpless; come on, everyone’s face looks a bit rough up close, right? Not everyone’s skin is baby-soft like some porcelain doll.
He carefully set Lin Nan down, pulled out his keys, and opened the door.
Lin Nan shot into the apartment and plopped down on the couch, letting out some nonsensical noises.
“Chen Yao! Chen Yao!”
“What’s up?” He locked the door behind him and turned to see Lin Nan sprawled on the couch, her rear end stuck up in the air.
He suspected she might be trying to seduce him on purpose.
“I want to eat a scallion pancake!”
“You just ate barbecue,” Chen Yao replied as he walked over, giving Lin Nan’s rear a playful slap before heading to the coffee table to boil water. “Get up; it’s time for bed. If you don’t go to bed now, you’ll just be drinking water until you’re tired.”
Lin Nan, not a fan of the slap, quickly shifted to lounging dramatically on the couch and boldly proclaimed, “I’m hungry!”
For some reason, after every time she drank, her stomach would be in overdrive and her mouth wouldn’t stop moving.
“Then drink some water?”
“Don’t want to…” Lin Nan pouted, her big eyes blinking dramatically, and before long, one tear slid down her cheek. “You don’t love me anymore~”
Who knew where she learned this tactic?
But it definitely worked wonders on Chen Yao.
After a moment of silence, he obediently pulled out his phone and ordered her a scallion pancake. He was too afraid to go out and leave Lin Nan alone, worried that in his absence, she’d pull a stunt like drowning herself in a basin or having a showdown with the power switch.
Lin Nan was never the type to be this clingy when sober.
His heart nearly melted.
Though his face was expressionless, Chen Yao suddenly had the wild urge to pour a little more alcohol into Lin Nan’s glass.
“Alright, I’ve ordered your scallion pancake; it should arrive in half an hour.” After placing a ten-dollar order, he glanced back at Lin Nan and found her reclining against the sofa’s armrest, her eyes half-closed, seemingly ready to drift off.
“Shall we take a shower?” He approached her and gently nudged her shoulder. “Or just sleep in bed? You might catch a cold if you sleep on the couch.”
“Hmm…” Lin Nan struggled to sit up, threw her arms wide open, and exclaimed, “Carry me!”
So cute, k*ll me.
Chen Yao hugged Lin Nan’s upper body close, supporting her bottom with both hands and lifting her up effortlessly.
Soft and fragrant.
Despite the lingering smell of alcohol, with the mix of her unique milky scent, it oddly felt like carrying a bottle of cream liquor.
He suppressed his physical urges and asked softly in Lin Nan’s ear, “How about tonight…”
“I’m tired…” Lin Nan, being a bit restless, covered her ears. “Don’t talk in my ear, it tickles.”
Holding Lin Nan as he entered the bedroom, he gently laid her down on the bed. Just as he was about to say something, he saw Lin Nan flop down, arms raised over her head, her face flushed, looking like a plucked fruit ready for the picking.
He swallowed hard.
“Cover yourself with the blanket, it’s bedtime…” Lin Nan weakly grabbed a blanket, tossing it over herself chaotically. “Help me cover up…”
Chen Yao took a deep breath, gazing at Lin Nan wriggling on the bed, her dazed expression making him contemplate his evening—beastly or worse than a beast?
Having drunk a bit himself, Chen Yao felt a surge of heat rising to his head, making his body tremble and his mouth feel dry.
At this moment, Lin Nan clearly wouldn’t put up any resistance.
If he sweet-talked her a bit, maybe he could score some points.
But would that be betraying the trust she placed in him?
Yet this look on Lin Nan’s face was blatantly trying to seduce him, right?
Chen Yao was agonizingly torn, but after a moment of indecision, he suddenly heard a knock at the door—his takeout had arrived.
When he came back to the bedroom with the scallion pancake in hand, he found Lin Nan snoring away.
Well, no more confusion; time to sleep.
