435. Get A Leg!
==============================
She was just supposed to go home and see who her mother was marrying again.
So how did she end up engaged all of a sudden?
Lin Nan was completely baffled. She felt like she’d been tossed into a whirlwind these past two days and couldn’t quite grasp what was happening. It felt as if she’d accidentally bought herself a one-way ticket to the engagement train.
However, it seemed like life before and after the engagement wasn’t all that different.
The next day, like clockwork, Chen Yao was already awake before his alarm clock went off.
After washing up, he approached the bed and looked at Lin Nan, who was curled up under her duvet, and gently shook her shoulder.
“Time to get up for class.”
“Ugh… no…” Lin Nan flipped over, turning her back to him while mumbling, “Please tell them I’m sick. Can’t get up.”
After two days of napping at Chen Yao’s place, she didn’t manage to get to sleep until midnight last night, and that didn’t leave her with much more than seven hours of sleep.
Normally, she needed over nine hours to feel human.
“You’re as lazy as a pig.” Chen Yao sighed, sat up, casually pulled on a T-shirt from the bedside, “I’m going to grab breakfast. You only have ten more minutes to sleep at most.”
Lin Nan, still half-asleep, retorted, “I’m a cat! Pig sounds horrible.”
“Right, right, you’re an orange cat.”
Chen Yao smiled gently, pinched her cheek playfully, then turned and left the room.
A few minutes later, Lin Nan realized that the sleepiness was fading away, thanks to her little chat with Chen Yao. Despite the quietness in the room, she just couldn’t fall back asleep.
With a resigned sigh, she got up, looking glum as she sat on the edge of the bed, yawning and changing out of her pajamas.
Suddenly, she noticed her phone vibrating. Picking it up, she saw a notification from Pan Maoxin’s father sending her tutoring money.
“I didn’t even have tutoring this weekend? Why is he sending me money?”
Lin Nan stared at the transfer message, scratching her head. Then it hit her; it was likely that Pan Maoxin hadn’t mentioned to his father that there were no classes.
He was probably still whining to his dad about how tough the lessons were, using that to squeeze for some pocket money.
Ah, the youth of today.
Lin Nan shrugged it off, accepting the money with open arms, and began plotting how to spend it in her mind.
Eight hundred bucks, just waiting to be spent.
Initially, it was one hundred and fifty per hour for tutoring, but Pan Maoxin’s English had skyrocketed, and now it was up to two hundred.
After two sessions on the weekend, that was practically the equivalent of her living expenses for an entire month.
Looks like anything worthwhile requires skill to earn money. Handing out flyers and pushing around stalls never made her a dime.
Maybe she could become a training class teacher someday.
Specializing in English.
Who knows, she might hit the jackpot!
Lost in thoughts while changing into her daytime outfit, she dressed in a getup that was even more feminine than usual.
A one-shoulder long T-shirt on top, and tight jeans on the bottom. The top was a recent purchase from her aunt, pretty but left her shoulder feeling a bit chilly—totally not used to it.
She adjusted the shoulder straps, aligning the shirt with her bra straps, and stood in front of the mirror, furrowing her brows for a moment.
After tying her hair into a ponytail and throwing on a cap, she transformed into a youthful sports-chic girl right before her eyes.
Though, the pants didn’t really match. If only she had some cargo pants, it might’ve been better.
“Lin Nan, you up yet?”
Chen Yao entered with breakfast, and the moment he caught sight of her new look, he paused, then without hesitation complimented, “This outfit looks way prettier than before, and it makes you look a bit more mature.”
“Really?”
“Your face and figure are just good for any clothes!”
Lin Nan was flattered, feeling on top of the world as she headed to freshen up.
Setting the meat buns and soy milk on the bedside table, Chen Yao leaned back, calling out to her in the bathroom, “Are you constipated or something? Haven’t seen you in the bathroom lately.”
Lin Nan paused mid-brush and shot him a glare.
I’m a fairy! I don’t need the bathroom!
Thinking she was angry about being caught in the act, Chen Yao awkwardly went silent, pondering when he should buy Lin Nan some green tea.
“Get out! My stomach hurts!”
“Okay!” He scampered out, shutting the door behind him, dismissing the whole thing without a second thought.
After she finished washing up, Lin Nan lingered in the bathroom for a few moments before leisurely leaving the room.
Looks like she had to act a bit more cautious from now on.
Mumbling to herself, she grabbed her breakfast and the textbooks she’d need that morning and headed out with Chen Yao.
After the sports meet, the only school activity left was the beauty pageant.
No idea how Liu Xuefei pulled it off, but a high-definition makeup photo made it to the nominations online, and with her friends rallying votes, she somehow managed to snag a spot in the top three.
Lin Nan couldn’t care less about the competition. After a glance at the latest updates on her phone, she tossed Liu Xuefei a vote and tucked her phone away to focus on her meat bun.
Plenty of time left as they strolled towards school, almost like a leisurely walk.
“I’ll pop back to the dorm for a bit. Will you wait here?” As they passed by the boys’ dorm, Chen Yao looked up with a smile, “I’ll go drag those two up.”
“Sure.” Lin Nan sat down by the flower bed, continuing to munch on her meat bun while watching Chen Yao’s departing figure. She felt a pang of excitement, but glancing at the old dorm manager squatting at the door washing up, all thoughts of going in vanished.
She had no clue what had gotten under this old man’s skin, but since last year, he had taken a particular dislike towards her.
The old guy was obviously wary of her sneaking into the boys’ dorm again, giving her a side-eye while brushing his teeth.
Just then, a boy from one of the dorms came out and spotted Lin Nan sitting in the flower bed. He paused, then hurried over.
“Senior! Long time no see!”
Lin Nan looked up at him, baffled at how this junior could say such nonsense with his eyes wide open. She was decked out in feminine attire; any sensible person should easily see she was a girl.
Did he think she was a crossdresser or something?
“So, have you thought about that cosplay from last time?”
“Huh? Didn’t the club’s recruitment already end?”
“Yeah, but our club is preparing for the cosplay exhibition, and we happen to need more people.” The junior beamed, pushing up his glasses, “Our president said that if someone as handsome as you joins, there’ll be payment.”
Though flattered, Lin Nan still wasn’t interested and casually asked, “How much?”
The junior held out his hand: “Five hundred!”
She slapped her thigh: “I’m in!”
“Get a leg!”
