**Chapter 449: Life is Tough**
Chen Yao discovered that Lin Nan was actually pretty entertaining during class.
It felt like she was teaching a group of elementary school kids. She read a word, Pan Maoxin repeated it, and somehow, this ridiculously simple teaching method managed to boost Pan Maoxin’s English grades?
Now, that’s just not scientific!
Sure, his girlfriend was stunning and exuded natural charm, but Pan Maoxin was clearly in awe and didn’t dare look up at Lin Nan in class. Even when he did glance her way, it was with a look of sheer terror.
While Lin Nan was busy teaching, he found himself with nothing to do, so he pulled out his phone to start looking for gifts for Children’s Day for Lin Nan.
What did she even like?
Was it a certain style, or…?
Even though they had known each other for a long time and had gotten closer, Lin Nan was still painfully shy.
“Okay, we’ve gone over these words, let’s take a ten-minute break,” Lin Nan announced, putting a pause on the lesson. “Go play some games.”
“No, no, I’ll read,” Pan Maoxin cautiously shook his head.
Lin Nan didn’t bother with him, instead sitting next to Chen Yao. But she noticed he was too busy staring at his phone to pay her any mind. So she leaned in a little to peek at his screen.
Just one look, and her face started to burn.
“What’s wrong with you?” Lin Nan whispered as she got closer to Chen Yao.
“What’s up?” Chen Yao looked up, grinning like a mischievous kid.
“I don’t want to buy that stuff!” Lin Nan shot him a glare, “What kind of weirdo are you?”
Chen Yao scratched his head. “Isn’t that just normal couple stuff? It really spices up your life.”
Lin Nan’s heart raced as she glanced at Pan Maoxin’s back, hoping this big bedroom would muffle her voice. But her heart was pounding like a drum, and her cheeks felt hot.
She snatched the phone from Chen Yao.
“You’re picking things out yourself?”
Lin Nan went ahead and uninstalled the shopping app, muttering curses. “Crazy! You can’t talk about this stuff at home!”
But while she was ranting, she felt a hand on her thigh, and her heart nearly skipped a beat, her cheeks blazing as the color rose to her neck.
She looked up at Chen Yao’s clearly suggestive smile and then quickly glanced at Pan Maoxin, whispering, “Can you not be so reckless?”
But wow, was it exciting…
Lin Nan bit her lip, trying not to let the strange feelings swirling in her mind distract her as she pried Chen Yao’s hand off her thigh. She shot him a look, took a deep breath, and said, “I need to go to the restroom.”
Her flush was a little too obvious. She needed to splash some cold water on her face to cool down.
As soon as she left the bedroom, she found Chen Yao following her, promptly shutting the door behind him.
“Are you a teddy bear or something?!” she kicked at him in exasperation.
Chen Yao seriously pondered the question before answering, “I wasn’t, but after the other day, I guess so.”
What a freak!
Ever since that day, this guy had been finding ways to tease her, always bringing up something random that drove Lin Nan to distraction.
But it felt like Chen Yao was purposely testing her limits.
What if she ended up agreeing to some twisted thing during this time? He’d just get bolder after that.
As their conversation wore on, Lin Nan’s blush gradually faded. With a sigh of defeat, she ignored the teddy bear version of Chen Yao, walked into the restroom, and splashed her face with cool water before pulling out a compact towel from her bag to dry off.
Chen Yao stood nearby, watching her with a teasing glimmer in his eye, like one of those conniving characters in an anime.
Lin Nan felt uneasy under his gaze and kicked at him again, exasperated. “Go away!”
“By the way, the school announced the scholarship winners,” he casually mentioned.
“What does that have to do with us?”
“My name’s on the list! They say it’s a thousand bucks.”
Lin Nan’s jaw dropped as she looked up at him, “Did you bribe Zheng Qian?”
“I never skip class and always pass exams. Plus, I’m the sports committee member, okay?”
Never skip class? Weren’t you the one who used to lead the way in skipping classes?
“I always make Tu Tu and Big Dog help me with roll call,” Chen Yao boasted, puffing out his chest. “Never skipped a class, model student here! I aced my grades last semester—if I don’t get the scholarship, who will?”
Tsk, there’s some corruption going on here!
In the past, Lin Nan would have been immensely jealous and prepared to report him. But now that scholarship was basically hers, right?
A thousand bucks?!
Lin Nan’s lips perked up into a mischievous grin, “Perfect! Let’s go out for a big meal after class today!”
“Sure, and tonight we’ll use our mouths for something else,” Chen Yao nodded enthusiastically.
“……”
The break ended, but Lin Nan couldn’t focus on teaching Pan Maoxin at all; her mind was racing with thoughts of whether she should find a time to neuter Chen Yao.
Is this how men are after tasting the forbidden fruit? They become brazen and shameless, pushing boundaries like it’s a competitive sport, and she just couldn’t handle it.
Even though she’d been a male in another life, this area was definitely a knowledge blind spot for her.
After what felt like an eternity of more than ten minutes, Lin Nan looked down at her phone, and when the timer hit zero, she slammed the textbook shut. “Alright! Class is over for today!”
Not a second more, thank goodness.
“Make sure to review on your own,” she hurriedly stood up, reminding him. “If you don’t understand something on the test, don’t come crying to me. I probably forgot how to do it too. Google it.”
“Next week, after the finals, it’ll be Children’s Day, so make sure you prepare a gift for me, got it?”
Who asks students for gifts so blatantly? If she really thought she could be a teacher for a few months, the education bureau would probably pull her license!
Pan Maoxin stared wide-eyed, “Teacher, you’re already eighteen!”
“But I’m still a child! Not much older than you,” Lin Nan joked, looking up at Chen Yao who had already stood beside her. “I’ll head out first. Got things to do.”
As soon as Chen Yao heard that, he perked up, “Right! I’m going to have a nice meal with your teacher.”
Upon hearing they were going out to eat, Pan Maoxin dug out some discount coupons from his drawer and handed them to Lin Nan. “Here, take these. I’ve tried them, and they’re pretty good. Consider it your Children’s Day gift.”
“Nice! You’ve got the hang of respecting your teacher,” Lin Nan cheerfully accepted the coupons.
How could he not? That face he made while acting all respectful was still fresh in her memory… Honestly, it was a bit cute.
The kid didn’t dare voice his real thoughts, sighing internally. He was doing his best to stay out of trouble, but the rest was up to Lin Nan and whether she’d suddenly be in a bad mood one day.
Even if he reported her for any violence, his dad would probably cheer and say, “Well done!”
With those friends being all shady and trying to catch Lin Nan off guard… that would be trouble, and he could easily end up getting clobbered like the time with Li Na.
Life is tough!
