452. Confession

It seems my girlfriend has some secrets.
Chen Yao suddenly realized this.
In fact, he had been noticing something unusual about Lin Nan since last year. For instance, he frequently noticed the next day that Lin Nan’s skin or physique appeared even more delicate, with her facial features changing in varying degrees.
Trusting Lin Nan, he easily dismissed the medical examination report, thinking these changes were just signs of her slow development into a woman.
But now that he thought about it, while it’s normal to develop a better figure, it shouldn’t mean that Lin Nan’s skin became increasingly smooth or her facial features altered… It’d make more sense if she were sprouting pimples!
Moreover, since last year, Lin Nan seemed to be hiding something from him, like that time she wore a maid outfit at his place, looking unusually stunning without any makeup—even having a bust!
For several days now, Chen Yao had been observing Lin Nan’s condition.
Having just tasted the joys of life, his mind spinning with ideas, he now realized that Lin Nan’s figure had seemingly improved even more.
Clearly, he hadn’t seen Lin Nan engage in any form of exercise, yet there appeared to be faint outlines of abs on her stomach, and her waist had become slimmer, making her look quite healthy.
Her hair seemed to be even shinier than before, glossy and beautiful, with no signs of dryness or frizz. It was as if she was undergoing a secret hair care regimen. But Lin Nan only had one tube of facial cleanser, which she remembered to use every few days—don’t even get her started on hair care!
But then again, one could blame it on her natural beauty.
Currently, in class, Lin Nan was chatting with Tu Junhui about the details of their upcoming trip to Zhongshan Street.
She was clearly invested in the idea, peppering Tu Junhui with questions: “I heard there are loads of delicious food at Zhongshan Street? Is it going to be super expensive?”
“Well, it’s definitely going to be pricier than usual, right? How would I know if it’s good? It depends on your taste,” Tu Junhui recalled from his last visit to Zhongshan Street. “Anyway, they sell seafood platters that look decent; I think a pound costs about one or two hundred.”
“And they have these meat skewers as long as my arm, and chips as long as half an arm…”
Lin Nan’s eyes lit up. “Really?!”
“Aren’t these things common at tourist spots?” Tu Junhui looked at her in surprise.
The thing is, I’ve hardly been to any tourist spots myself. The only one I can recall is from last year’s beach trip with my mother!
Lin Nan was now genuinely excited about their trip to Zhongshan Street.
She turned to Chen Yao but found him not paying any attention to class. Instead, he was staring at her, a bit dazed.
“Why do you keep staring at me?” Lin Nan asked, tilting her head, curious.
Since they were already engaged, Chen Yao decided it was time to be upfront. He cut to the chase and asked, “Do you have a secret you’re hiding?”
“???” Lin Nan was taken aback, thinking he was accusing her of cheating.
“It’s just that whenever you teach me, for some reason, I remember everything,” Chen Yao shrugged. “Even when I zone out, I can still remember what you say from the textbook. It feels a bit unbelievable.”
Lin Nan suddenly understood that she had been a bit too smug lately, not deliberately hiding her magic powers, which had confused Chen Yao.
Perhaps this was just the spark; Chen Yao might start recalling other unreasonable things about her.
After hesitating, she suddenly broke into a bright smile. “It’s because I can do magic!”
“You’re just talking nonsense.” Chen Yao chuckled at this, but when he saw the teacher glance in his direction, he quickly stopped.
However, stifling his laughter, he couldn’t help but poke Lin Nan’s nose, trembling with amusement. “How old are you? Still cute with that middle schooler vibe?”
This isn’t being a middle schooler!
I’m just stating facts.
Lin Nan rubbed her sore nose, looking displeased, and rested her chin on the desk.
She leaned her cheek against the table, turned her head to look at Chen Yao’s chin, and after pondering for a moment, she said in a dreamy, middle school style, “I turned into a girl because of magic, too.”
She paused, hesitating whether to continue, but seeing Chen Yao’s interested expression, she decided to spill her secret.
“There’s this guy named Lilith who got into my head and turned me into a girl, gave me magic powers, and I have her memories! So when I became a girl, I accepted it really quickly.”
After she finished, she looked up seriously and said, “It’s all true! Magic is real!”
Too bad she didn’t know any flashy fireball spells that she could demonstrate.
“Got it, got it.” Chen Yao nodded, laughing. “You’re just too cute!”
Well, I’ve spilled the beans now, haven’t I? So I’m not hiding anything from you.
Lin Nan felt like a mountain had been lifted off her chest. Keeping secrets from Chen Yao had never felt comfortable, after all, even if there are secrets, couples should understand each other.
Even though they were only engaged at the moment.
Chen Yao hadn’t expected Lin Nan, being so grown-up, to still have this middle school vibe. It seemed to reflect a lingering side of her former male identity.
After all, “Men remain boys at heart until they d*e…” now that’s classic middle-school angst!
And quite adorable too.
After having a good laugh with Lin Nan, Chen Yao ruffled her hair before looking back at the teacher, appearing to listen in class but still pondering over things in his head.
Thinking Lin Nan has these thoughts and speaks so confidently probably means she used to struggle accepting her true identity as a woman, which led her to concoct a reason she could accept.
He didn’t know much about psychology, but this kind of statement was quite common in films.
He was aware that Lin Nan occasionally had her middle school moments, but this time it felt a bit silly.
Lin Nan, though easy to fool, was mostly just straightforward.
If it weren’t for the fact that Lin Nan got accepted into college, he’d almost suggest taking her for an IQ test.
Lin Nan was mentally grumbling, noticing Chen Yao didn’t seem to believe her words and instead thought of her as a fool.
Though she was somewhat pleased that he thought that way, it still irked her, and she felt like giving him a punch.
She was clearly just stating facts!
“I’ll let you in on a secret—actually, Li Na and Lilith are from another world,” she whispered to Chen Yao.
“Got it,” Chen Yao pretended to be serious and asked, “Here to conquer the world?”
“Nope! Lilith is a witch who got chased here, and Li Na is a saintess who followed her here.”
She was just stating facts, but Lin Nan felt a strange sense of embarrassment wash over her.
Chen Yao nodded: “Too bad you’re not writing a novel.”
“If I wrote a novel, wouldn’t this kind of setting be too cliché?” Lin Nan grumbled.
But hey, sometimes reality is just that cliché!
