465. Cannot Understand

Lilith really seems to have fallen for Wang Rui.
The school playground was still brightly lit that night, with lots of students chatting or exercising, giving the place an extra lively vibe.
Lin Nan sat on the playground, watching Lilith walking and chatting casually with Wang Rui on the track, her mind couldn’t help but wander.
She had never seen Lilith’s smile so genuine and sweet before.
And when she was with Wang Rui, she was obviously livelier, occasionally doing little girly gestures, her steps light as a feather, and the usual habit of batting her eyelashes at handsome guys was nowhere to be seen.
But Wang Rui seemed lost in thought; even with a long-legged beauty by his side, his expression was a bit dazed. With his glasses, he looked particularly scholarly—handsome enough, but definitely not really Lilith’s type.
Remembering the guys Lilith used to hang out with—most were muscular, handsome studs.

“Is that guy Li Lisi’s boyfriend?” Chen Yao asked as he sat next to her, both watching the distant duo.
“Probably?” Lin Nan wasn’t quite sure about anything anymore.
Chen Yao gazed at Lilith, pondering for a moment before grinning and leaning over to Lin Nan, “You see Li Lisi? She looks like you, and when she meets a boy she likes, she acts just like you!”
“Huh? Really?” Lin Nan turned her attention back to Lilith.
Not just because of the dim yellow light, but it seemed Lilith’s face had a slight blush. The usually bold and shameless girl suddenly appeared a bit shy in front of Wang Rui.
But she was a real heartbreaker!
Well, not anymore—her body had switched, and if Li Na hadn’t messed with it, she would probably still be a pure young lady.
Lin Nan leaned sideways against Chen Yao’s shoulder, yawning.
She was pretty sure Lilith had never genuinely liked any guy or girl, despite her chaotic private life.
Who knows how she ended up liking Wang Rui?
“And if Li Na brings it up, don’t tell her about this.” Lin Nan warned Chen Yao, “Otherwise, she’ll get mad.”
“What’s she gonna be mad about?” Chen Yao, with a confused expression, took Lin Nan in his arms and continued questioning, “You can’t be serious that they’re in a yuri relationship?”
“You really can’t see that Li Na likes her?”
Chen Yao genuinely didn’t see it.
Frowning, he shook his head. To him, Li Na and Lilith seemed like just close friends.
After all, they’d never exhibited any overly intimate gestures in public, and holding hands between girls was pretty normal—unlike guys, which would definitely draw attention.
Lin Nan squinted at Lilith in the distance, feeling a bit puzzled.
If Li Na had a crush on Lilith to the point of being a creepy yandere, why weren’t they closer?
Maybe it was pure yuri? Just having Lilith around was enough for her?
Or maybe Li Na hadn’t shown her true wolfish side yet?

She pulled out her phone, opened her contacts, and hesitated over Li Na’s name.
That troublemaker Lilith was the reason she turned into a girl, and now selling her out would be totally justified! Right?
But… her conscience was nagging at her.
After a moment’s hesitation, she locked her phone and shifted in Chen Yao’s embrace, getting comfortable to continue lounging.
“So when are we going back?” Chen Yao sighed, gazing down at Lin Nan, “Coming to the playground at night just to sit here doesn’t even beat going back to enjoy the air conditioning.”
The heat had been rising lately; there were occasional rains, but they didn’t solve the real problem. If it rained and then cleared up, the heavy and humid air would make anyone feel uncomfortable.
Last summer, Chen Yao used to play basketball every night but was now just a salted fish in an air-conditioned room.
“What’s the rush? I don’t mind the heat.”
“You’re not afraid of the heat…”
Chen Yao even wondered if Lin Nan had skin that didn’t register temperature; sometimes he felt like a hot mess, while she could wander around in a jacket under the sun and go an entire afternoon without sweating. In winter, he could barely get up from bed, while she flitted around in her thin pajamas.
He reached out to touch Lin Nan’s warm cheek; her skin always seemed cool, except for her hands and feet, which were perpetually icy.
“Stop touching.” Lin Nan slapped his hand away, looking back at Lilith, just in time to see her and Wang Rui walking toward the exit of the playground.
Quickly, she sprang up and grabbed Chen Yao, ready to follow them.
“Are you stalking Li Lisi?” Chen Yao exclaimed as he got up off the ground.
“Of course not! I’m protecting her!” Lin Nan insisted, trailing behind Lilith as they exited the playground, noticing they were heading toward the back gate of the school.
They were probably just heading home.
Sure enough, at the alley leading to the rental apartments, Lilith stopped, and Wang Rui just took off without saying anything.
Lilith turned around, waving cheerfully at Lin Nan.
“See? Not stalking; I’m not that kind of person!” Lin Nan explained again, speeding up to join her.
She scrutinized the blush on Lilith’s face; clearly, she was thrilled, but fundamentally, all she did was stroll around the playground with Wang Rui for half an hour.
“He said he wants to go back and study some more,” Lilith said, hands on her hips, her nose practically in the air. “He just can’t resist my charm! Give it a few days and I’ll have him whisking me away! Then I’ll kick him to the curb!”
Lin Nan looked at her skeptically, while Chen Yao caught up and asked cluelessly, “But he doesn’t seem that interested in you, right?”
Lilith’s expression hardened as she shot a dismissive glance at Chen Yao out of the corner of her eye.
Then she reverted to her triumphant demeanor, bragging to Lin Nan: “He definitely likes me now! He’s even planning to take me out for lunch tomorrow!”
Lin Nan actually agreed with Chen Yao, but seeing Lilith so enthusiastic, she didn’t want to burst her bubble—she bobbed her head vigorously, “Yeah, yeah, you’re the best!”

“Well, I’m heading back!” Lilith waved her hand, practically bouncing away with excitement.
Lin Nan looked at her in total bewilderment, feeling like the former sorceress had turned into an idiot.
But she could understand: according to her species’ lifespan, Lilith was barely a teenager, still developing… although her experiences might have been a bit over the top. Wasn’t this still her first love? She probably retained a bit of that innocent romantic girl charm, right?
“Okay, I can’t understand this.” Lin Nan shook her head in exasperation.
