I Don’t Want to Be Turned into a Girl by Magic – Chapter 506

514. Sudden Situation

==============================

Lin Kexin’s talent for telling ghost stories didn’t scare anyone at all.

Everyone treated her story like any ordinary tale.

“That day, it was only six or seven in the morning, barely light out. A student who had stayed overnight woke up early to catch a bus to the city center. At that moment, he saw three people walking out from across the street, two girls and a guy…”

Hearing this, Lin Nan felt an odd sense of déjà vu.

“Was it a double date?”

Somebody chimed in with a snarky remark, and the whole place erupted in laughter. Lin Kexin’s face turned crimson as she glared at the instigator, who turned out to be none other than Big Dog, the class’s chief troublemaker.

Lin Nan shot a furious look at Big Dog, wishing she had something to throw at him.

After the laughter died down, Lin Kexin continued, “Later, one of the girls walked away into an alley across the street. When she was on the street, she seemed perfectly normal, but as soon as she stepped into the alley, she just floated up into the air, her body becoming more and more transparent.”

“Then the ghost girl suddenly turned her head and glanced at the student, a flash of white light, and poof! She disappeared, leaving that poor student with a fever for three days!”

She really had no talent for storytelling at all, but this tale was not exactly a hit in the first place.

Lin Nan, however, couldn’t shake off that feeling of déjà vu.

She recalled that time when Li Na threatened her into sharing a hotel room, and Chen Yao uneasyly decided to tag along.

That day, although she was scared senseless by Li Na, nothing actually happened, and the next morning she left the inn, while Li Na had managed to sneak off into some alley, using magic to cross into another world.

So, maybe, this story was true… though it was likely that Li Na hadn’t been paying attention, and some student saw her crossing over and posted it online.

It was also likely that Lin Kexin was a regular on those forums.

Even though the story had zero eerie vibes, the students continued to cheer and clap, making it nearly impossible for Lin Kexin to regain control of the stage. Fortunately, Big Dog jumped in to tell the next ghost story.

Big Dog was always good at holding an audience; otherwise, he wouldn’t have so many friends and chat with just about anyone. He was enthusiastic too.

His storytelling was evidently far more vivid than that of Lin Kexin, as he lowered his voice, making it raspy and rich with emotion while recounting a ghost story he claimed to have heard somewhere.

The students gradually noticed the atmosphere growing heavier under his narration, the wind carrying an oddly eerie note.

As the mood turned darker and weirder, compounded by the recent words of a tourist nearby, Lin Nan found herself getting drawn into Big Dog’s ghost story.

Goosebumps prickled on her arms as she clutched her stomach, biting her lip, realizing this whole activity was definitely not friendly to the faint of heart.

Perhaps caught up in the mood, Lin Nan found herself doubting the tourist’s earlier statements.

Are there really ghosts here?

She looked around, and apart from the streetlights ten meters away, everything else was pitch-black, shrouded in darkness.

As a tourist spot, even though the camping area had less lighting, the wildlife had been cleared out long ago. It was dark, sure, but it shouldn’t be dangerous.

As for the ghosts…

If there were really ghosts here attacking people, how could this place still be a tourist spot?

Mumbling to herself, she turned to glance at the tourist beside her, only to realize he had vanished.

Probably a bored weirdo?

Just as that thought crossed her mind, a sudden gust of wind blew past her.

She froze; the scene seemed hauntingly familiar.

“Ding!”

Instinctively, she turned around, only to find a kn*fe falling to the ground, while a dark mass floated behind her, blocking the kn*fe’s trajectory.

Her head spun with confusion.

The dark mass quickly morphed into the form of her cheap son, who frowned as he bent down to pick up the kn*fe, then looked up and gave Lin Nan an awkward smile.

Clearly, the whole incident of mistaking Lin Nan for Lilith and bowing to her while calling her “Mom” had left a huge impact on him.

“What’s going on? What happened?” Lin Nan continued in her daze, “Why are you here?”

“An assassin came, missed the mark, and ran away.”

“An assassin?”

That word felt familiar yet had never truly appeared in Lin Nan’s life.

She had an inkling of the situation but still found it hard to believe.

Having lived her whole life in the city, her biggest brushes with danger were just daily betrayals; the idea of facing an assassination was overwhelming.

Kang De merged the kn*fe into his shadowy body, sitting down, and opened his mouth, unsure what to call Lin Nan. After a moment of deliberation, he sighed, “Mother and Miss Li Na were worried about you and asked me to keep an eye on you.”

“Eh?”

“Usually, when you’re at school, Miss Li Na hides your aura, but this time you wandered a bit too far…”

“So?” Lin Nan found it hard to trust, “You mean I’m being mistaken for Lilith again?”

Kang De nodded, exasperated.

What the heck?!

The scenario she had only ever imagined was happening.

A hitman from another world has come to take out a witch, but mistook her for the witch!

Though Li Na had been doing damage control all along, it had nearly been a year, and the folks from the other side had run out of patience, sending more people after Lilith.

And now, she was the one who bore the brunt…

“Your magic is now way stronger than Mother’s, and she’s under Miss Li Na’s protection.” Kang De scratched his head, glancing back at the spot where the assassin had been, “That aura… was the same one that killed Mother.”

“Eh?”

Lin Nan was especially bewildered.

She struggled to recall Lilith’s memories, settling on a final image of looking down at a sword piercing through her from behind.

At that moment, fear began to surface as she anxiously asked, “So, does that mean he’s really powerful enough to k*ll Lilith?”

“When he attacked, he disguised himself as me and delivered a backstab… but his actual strength is average; it’s just that his disguise skills are impossible to detect.” After living on Earth for a while, Kang De had picked up some humor, “I was ambushed and kidnapped, and learned of this later with immense regret…”

“He masqueraded as an ordinary tourist to get close to you; I never noticed his magic fluctuations. If I hadn’t been hiding in your shadow…”

So that’s why, when he first met me, he was kneeling and bowing, crying and yelling that it was all my fault?

“Does that mean I need to get back ASAP?” Lin Nan felt a wave of anxiety.

“Not to worry, after this failure, he won’t come back too quickly. I’ll stick with you all the time.”

No sooner had he said that than Kang De transformed into a swirl of darkness and sank into Lin Nan’s shadow, while Chen Yao approached Lin Nan, yelling, “Lin Nan! Zheng Qian sent out red envelopes in the class group! Quick, go grab one!”

Lin Nan’s eyes lit up, and without hesitation, she bent down to snatch the red envelope.

Yet, her heart still raced with guilt and apprehension as she turned to glance behind her.

An assassin…

How did a perfectly good student like me turn into a girl and land in the middle of a life-or-d*ath crisis?

This is just a daily slice-of-life, right?
